It's a relatively modern concept which really took wing during the 19th century, and can be seen in one of its earliest form in Rousseau's Émile. Some people would argue that childhood innocence isn't really a thing, and is mostly something invented/romanticized to serve as political rhetoric. Eliminating it is difficult since it's so hard to define, but I'd imagine that depriving a child of food and human contact would hinder their development enough to prevent that "innocent" from appearing in any recognizable form. I don't think there's any advantage to doing that though. If you want to protect a child from dangers or con-artists or something else, you can probably ingrain that in a child without impacting their innocence whatever that may be. | ||

innocence is a human construct driven by <own>weakness and self pity then forcefully projected onto unsuspecting victims. it needs to die; it only creates complacent clones, drones and clueless whinos. Edit: the santa-claus part of the innocence doesn't matter because after you tell your kids about it, they'll make their own santas anyway, often better than your red, fat geezer. | ||

Basically you put everyone to study for 3+ years, and have the children raised as they were in French noblesse. I wouldn't call this an utopia, as in it's radically different, new, optimal and quite unachievable, but more so a general upgrade (in your sense) of the society. | ||

In this case, I'd like Ulridge to give an (or a few) example of childhood innocence, and how it might be stripped, and we can then discuss pros and cons of that. Would maybe even (gasp!) have people talk about more or less the same thing. | ||
