Keep it civil guys. Alright I am sick of warning people: Trolling, flame baiting, and derailing will result in insta bans. The same goes for conspiracy theorists and stupidity generally. Confirmation was as follows - On-site DNA test which came back as 99% positive. - photos of face sent to CIA and confirmed with photo analysis - confirmed by 20 year old wife who live in pakistan. This thread is specifically dedicated to the details surrounding the raid/his death.

I might expect some kind of power vacuum or weakening if this happened back in the day, but I would presume the terrorist organization would have matured a bit since then. Not to undermine our achievement in getting this bastard......or maybe it's just that I'm ignorant about the terrorist networks in general. Not something I generally read about every day. Either way, last I heard Osama was stuck in a cave hooked up to dialysis or other. Now he's dead. I'll wait for the a times article or pick up the economist when they do some in depth story. The effect of this eludes me at the moment so I can't really jump for joy right away. Any maturation has been a splintering, more than anything. Even just the split between Al Qaeda and Al Qaeda Iraq drastically decreased their efficiency. Now, there's almost certainly going to be a struggle between the various factions to gain power. Whoever wins it won't be as influential as Bin Laden. The man was one of the best speakers and rhetoricians in the world and had credibility due to his success against both the Soviet Union and with 9/11, even when he was ill and hooked up.

I'm just saying. I respect that, but name 3 wars that WE started thats had tons of collateral damage to civilians.

Bin Laden was responsible for the murder of thousands of civilians in one of the greatest terrorist incidents in history, and was (until today) the physical and spiritual leader of Al Queda. His presence, his videos, his life, was a huge symbolic boost for terrorists and an international symbol that someone could kill so many, cause so much death and pain, and run away. His death represents so much to the US, and especially to terrorists around the world. You're so ignorant, it appalls me. How can you label this as "good PR and all"? This event is HUGELY historic and a huge win for the entire world. Sure, practically speaking, Al Queda might not have been doing that much in where you're from. But they're still murdering thousands of innocents around the world, and all you can say is "good PR"?? Ridiculous and highly offensive to ANYONE who has relations to someone who has died from any terrorist incidents. edit: btw I'm Asian Canadian and not American. The best thing that could happen to Al Qaeda was Bin Laden becoming a martyr.

I think it's great that Obama is taking credit for all of this, he deserves it. Isn't there a way to less blatantly take credit though?

For those of you curious as to the spelling on foxnews.com It can actually be spelled either Usama or Osama. While most media outlets go with Osama most government agencies spell it Usama(check out the top 10 wanted list on the fbi site). It's due to just how hard it is to translate Arabic to English if memory serves. Huzzah a really good day for America overall. It's a moral victory, it's something that's awesome for anyone who's against radical extremists. So.. pretty much everyone but said radical extremists.
