This is my type of thread. Here are some quotes I like.
"If you argue for your limitations, you get to keep them" - Richard Bach
"The trouble with quotes on the Internet is that you can never know if they are genuine." - Abraham Lincoln
Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.
"Censorship is telling a man he can't have a steak just because a baby can't chew it." - Mark Twain
Maintain politiness in all of your discussions, for no one can be right all the time and even if you are wrong you are still a gentleman. Whereas if you are impolite, even if you are right, you're still an ass.
If you are not prepared to be wrong, you will never come up with anything original
Most have no author because I tend to just use these for Skype and MSN

"The face of the angel of history is turned toward the past. Where we perceived a chain of events, he sees a single catastrophe which keeps piling wreckage and hurls it in front of his feet. The angel would like to stay, awaken the dead, and make whole what has been smashed. But a storm is blowing from Paradise; it has got caught in his wings with such violence that the angel can no longer close them. This storm irresistably propels him into the future to which his back is turned, while the pile of debris before him grows skyward. The storm is what we call progress." ~Walter Benjamin
"I begin with the principle that all men are bores. Surely no one will prove himself so great a bore as to contradict me in this. " ~ Soren Kierkegaard
"For it is said that humans are never satisfied, that? you give them one thing and they want something more. And this is said in disparagement, whereas it is one of the greatest talents the species has and one that has made it superior to animals that are satisfied with what they have." -John Steinbeck
"...nothing offends a man of our time and tribe more than to be told that he's unoriginal, weak of character, with no special talents, and an ordinary man." ~ Dostoevsky, The Idiot
“I’m what time and circumstance have made me." ~ Boardwalk Empire, Jimmy Darmody

"I may be mad.. But that doesn't mean I'm not right.." - Gaius Baltar, BSG
"The difference between virtuality and life is very simple. In a construct you know everything is being run by an all-powerful machine. Reality doesn't offer this assurance, so it's very easy to develop the mistaken impression that you're in control. " - Quell ( Richard K. Morgan )
"When they ask how I died, tell them: still angry. " - Quell ( Richard K. Morgan )
"My life has no purpose, no direction, no aim, no meaning, and yet I'm happy. I can't figure it out. What am I doing right?" - Peanuts, the dog, forgot his name

Still, the last memory hovers round, and sometimes drifts across like floating mist, cutting off sunshine and chilling the remembrance of happier times. There have been joys to great to describe in words, and there have been griefs upon which I have not dared to dwell, and with this in mind I say: Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are nought without prudence, and that momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste; look well to each step; and from the beginning think what may be the end.

So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism..., all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

Everything had changed suddenly - the tone, the moral climate; you didn't know what to think, whom to listen to. As if all your life you had been led by the hand like a small child and suddenly you were on your own, you had to learn to walk by yourself. There was no one around, neither family nor people whose judgment you respected. At such a time you felt the need of committing yourself to something absolute - life or truth or beauty - of being ruled by it in the place of the man-made rules that had been discarded, You needed to surrender to some such ultimate purpose more fully, more unreservedly than you had ever done in your old familiar, peaceful days, in the old life that was now abolished and gone for good.

People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that's bullshit. Love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they're afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they're wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It's all in how you carry it. That's what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you're letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain.

I wanted movement and not a calm course of existence. I wanted excitement and danger and the chance to sacrifice myself for my love. I felt in myself a superabundance of energy which found no outlet in my quite life.

We in this country, in this generation, are - by destiny rather than choice - the watchmen on the walls of world freedom.

Almost everything--all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure--these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

But I am constant as the northern star, Of whose true-fix'd and resting quality There is no fellow in the firmament. The skies are painted with unnumber'd sparks, They are all fire and every one doth shine, But there's but one in all doth hold his place: So in the world; 'tis furnish'd well with men, And men are flesh and blood, and apprehensive; Yet in the number I do know but one That unassailable holds on his rank, Unshaked of motion: and that I am he

Now what is history? Is it the centuries of systematic explorations of the riddle of death, with a view to overcoming death. That's why people discover mathematical infinity and electromagnetic waves, that's why they write symphonies. Now, you can't advance in this direction without a certain faith. You can't make such discoveries without spiritual equipment. And the basic elements of this equipment are in the gospels. What are they? To begin with, love of one's neighbor, which is the supreme form of vital energy. Once it fills the heart of man it has to overflow and spend itself. And then the two basic ideals of modern man - without them he is unthinkable - the idea of free personality and the idea of life as sacrifice.

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

The people whose lives, day in and day out, pass in a monotony of hopelessness are many; they are the mainstay of modern society. The alarm of mobilization breaks into their lives like a promise; the familiar and long-hated is overthrown, and the new and unusual reigns in its place. Changes still more incredible are in store for them in the future. For better or worse.

Wilderness appeals to those bored or disgusted with man and his works, It not only offers an escape from society but also an ideal stage for the romantic individual to exercise the cult that he frequently made of his own soul. The solitude and total freedom of the wilderness created a perfect setting for either melancholy or exultation.

Where you find reason I find madness. Unfortunately, I don't think it's a phase. I know what a phase feels like, I've had many. I think I'm beginning to understand that it's in every tiny nerve ending of my mind, every synapse. Every double helix of DNA. My hair, my fingernails, the pigmentation of my eyes. It's in the carbon dioxide I exhale and every thought I've ever had, including those I haven't had yet. So roll your eyes, mutter some carefully-learned rhetoric and tuck yourself into bed with whatever thoughts you find you can sleep to. I'll be long gone by first light, anyway.

No man ever followed genius till it mislead him. Though the result were bodily weakness, yet perhaps non one can say that the consequences were to be regretted, for these were a life in conformity to higher principals. If the day and night are such that you greet them with joy, and life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet-scented herbs, it is more elastic, more starry, more immortal - that is your success. All nature is your congratulation, and you have cause momentarily to bless yourself. The greatest gains and values are farthest from being appreciated. Er easily come to doubt if they even exist. We soon forget them. They are the highest reality... the true harvest of my daily life is somewhat intangible and indescribable as the tints of morning or evening. It is a little star-dust caught, a segment of the rainbow which I have clutched.

But have you noticed the slight curl at the end of Sam II's mouth, when he looks at you? It means he didn't want you to name him Sam II, for one thing, and for another two things it means that he has a sawed-off in his left pant leg, and a baling hook in his right pant leg, and is ready to kill you with either one of them given the opportunity. The father is take aback. What he usually says, in such a confrontation, is "I changed your diapers for you, little snot." This is not the right thing to say. First, it is not true (mothers change nine diapers out of ten), and second, it instantly reminds Sam II of what he is mad about. He is mad about being small when you were big, but no, that's not it, he is mad about being helpless when you were powerful, but no, not it either, he is mad about being contingent when you were necessary, not quite it, he's insane because when he loved you, you didn't notice.
