Soooooo...
I've trained in various martial arts for about three years now but I haven't been in a fight since jr high (school yard scuffle that was really quite uneventful). Even though I literally train to fight several times a week and spar against people who fight professionaly, I couldn't imagine fighting someone out on the street just for the sake of fighting; they would have to have seriously wronged me or someone I care about.
Have any of you ever been in a street fight or some kind of scuffle at a bbq/party/sporting event/etc? What was the reason behind it? How did it play out? Do you regret it?
I'm sure a lot of you guys have some pretty entertaining/hilarious/sad/ridiculous stories so let's hear them!
I guess the closest thing I've ever had to a fight in the past few years was at a good friends party. He was turning 21 so our goal was to get him more drunk than he'd ever been in his life.
At around 2am he was already shitfaced and vanished from the party all of sudden. After a little searching we found him passed out in his bed.
"Mike, Mike, wake up DUDE YOURE FUCKING 21 YOU CANT GO DOWN LIKE THIS!" I said while shaking his shoulders wildly. (i was already pretty hammered too)
Mike gets up, grabs me (and im thinking hell yeah mike youre awake, lets get back to the party!), throws me to the ground, and starts wailing on me. The next thing I remember was having him in a rear naked choke and asking if he was ganna calm down. My other friend was like "DUDE CHILL OUT LET HIM GO!"
Mike was like "yeah dude I'm cool" and then we went to the kitchen where he started throwing up everywhere and soon after pissed his pants. We still laugh our asses off at that story every time we hang out.

lol yes, been in fights, never a good reason, and always regret it. Real street fights are extremely dangerous. Death is always a possibility. Even a great fighter can make one small mistake and get totally obliterated. Better to stick to the ring and have fun. Real fights are too risky.

Agree. I've done various types of martial arts for a total of...6 years or so...and I try my best to avoid any possible fights. They are really dangerous, you can't be sure if the other person has rules or not, you CAN die too if something goes bad. No point to get in a fight today in modern society...not to mention the legal implications.

Nearly got in a fight a few weeks ago when some rednecks at White Castles wouldn't stop calling our friend racial slurs. Had to pull one of my friends away into the car to leave. Probably best for them as we outnumbered them more than two to one. To this day I've never been in a legitimate street fight.

never been in a serious fight, no.

Actually pretty funny, I am in Martial Arts too and have never been in a real fight out in the 'real' world. Combative wise I do sparring and grappling but it makes me realize even more how dangerous fighting is. I already get 'injured' fighting for practice where there are rules and there is a code. I think the most import thing I have learned by training and talking to my instructors is that if you are ever in a position that you can't defuse by talking or walking away and you are 99% sure it comes to fighting, make the first strike count (like to a soft spot or anything) and then get the hell out.

One "fight" at a club in Barcelona called "Catwalk". I was there with three friends and two girls from my college. Some dude started harassing one of the girls, told him to gtfo. He came back and continued harassing, at which point I floored him with a cross to the right eye. The bouncers inmediately grabbed me and literally threw me out of the club onto the street after punching me repeteadly in a back room. The other guy got thrown out too, but he had a black eye and could not fight, was dragged away by his buddy. I was too drunk to be in pain but the next day I asked my friend why did my jaw hurt. Do not recommend.
When I was younger I drunkenly hit on a bouncers girlfriend (unknowingly). The bouncer came up and floored me with a headbutt to the nose. My friends took me home, mother asked why my nose was broken, told her I fell down the club stairs.

Hhaha never been in a serious one, but I watched one. My friend Louis was having troubles with a kid named Andy in like 8th grade. As Andy walked down the hallway, Louis tapped him on the shoulder. When Andy looked behind to see who it was, Louis grabbed his shirt and pulled Andy towards him, as Andy came in Louis socked him in the face. Andy feel and Louis just beat the shit out of him for like 30 seconds before a teacher noticed. Louis got in some pretty serious trouble tho

Fight this last summer.
Was drinking on my porch with 2 roommates and out next door neighbor comes home, she is followed by 3 or so guys who are fucking wasted and shouting at her. My roommate, who had an obvious undisclosed crush on this girl, was drunk and got pissed so he started shouting at them. They attempted to come onto the porch, which I blocked. The guy pushed me so I kicked him in the chest, off the porch (much like in the trailer from 300) and a fight ensued. I had just got off work and had only 1 beer in me, the people we were fighting were pretty wasted, and it was not even a close fight (I'm not a big guy, but I was a very good wrestler).
Morale of the story: sober people win fights.

I am a lover, not a fighter.

When I was in 8th grade a bunch of 7th graders were stomping on a bunch of baby rabbits at recess- I tossed one of 8th graders into a brick wall, he started crying. I was happy.

In fights of various (comparably low) intensity over football events. Nothing really serious happened that far though. With most of them I was more an in-between witness than actually participating though.
Mass fighting going on is a truly fascinating thing. It shows you how wrong people really are. Give them an emotional attachment, a stressful and critical situation and the most square and boring guy will turn into a bloodthirsty maniac from one second to another.

Yeap. In a club like 5 years ago, 4 of us with 3 girlfriends and some dudes came and started forcing the girls to dance. They were like 10 or 12 and I got my nose broken in the fight. Luckily for us the club is near the coast in my city and the Naval prefecture was patrolling around and saw us getting picked apart and they came into the fight (they have guns on them and are wearing "army" clothes) so the other guys ended up running away. Would've been probably bad if that kept going on for a longer time.

Caix?
There are always hordes of rugbiers there looking for an excuse to kick some heads in. The girls aren´t even that fly. A waste of time if you ask me.

For people who are trained in martial arts (I have some training too, not a lot though) it may be tempting to enter a street fight. Once in a while we find some stupid people who may deserve a beating, and when we are training like statix mentioned, we feel really confident. But if you calm down and thing straight, you will realize that most of the times entering a fight will not be benefitial for no one.
Once the following happened to me: I was going back home from my University. I had to cross a bridge to get to the subway station. It was about 10 in the night (after classes I practice Taisan Kung-fu, so I end up going home late). And I live in São Paulo, not the safest place.
So, when crossing the bridge alone, two suspicious looking guys about my age came in my direction. I instinctly put my guard up just before one of them tried to grab my bag. They kept asking me to give them my things. I remember I was very confident in my skills and knew I could take them in a fight. I also knew they most likely did not had a gun with them (living most of my life in Brazil thaught me to Identify such things heheh).
What happend is that by being confident about my safety, I was able to stay calm and think about what was the best action I should take. I then kept my defensive position and said I woudn't give shit to them. After insisting two or three times they gave up and went away without a fight.
I was happy they did not try to steal me, because if they did I would have to beat them. The problem is, they most likely live in the favela behind my University, and I use that bridge 5 times a week. Had I beat them, they would probably get mad, and perhaps get some friends or even a gun and wait for me the next day. I would have to change my schedule and go home another time, or by a different route. The way it went, they alerady forgot my face, and I forgot theirs.
Edit: I forgot to mention that some dude tried to steal me the following week in the same place. But I just had to say no once and he was like kthksbye
TLDR: People who know how to fight may get tempted to beat Idiots. But their skill should actually allow them to be calmer, think straight and avoid fighting when possible

I've always been afraid to get into a fight... I'm fairly small though I am decently strong for my size but I'm not sure I could keep control in an all out situation.. if you were substantially larger than me and it looked like you knew what you were doing I could by no means guarantee that I wouldn't grab whatever I could find near me (bottle, steak knife, even a pen, etc) as soon as a fight started and try to kill you.
I don't want to go to jail :S (or be killed)

I did freshman year in high school. Some kid started some stuff with me and we exchanged words. After class I walked out the door and he sucker punched me in the back of the head. Hit me so hard he broke his hand. Any ways, I dropped my bag and ran up to him. Got him in the muay thai plum, one knee and he was out. I was in my first month of muay thai at the time, earned me my yellow.
