I am a biginner in learning korean language and I find it fun to try to understand something in what korean kommentators are saying. But there is a problem: as far as I know from my classes, all korean sentences should end up with a verb, and, since it is a TV program, the politeness level should be either polite formal (hamnida) or polite informal (haeyo). And indeed many sentences end up with these "mnida" and "ayo"/"aeyo" and sometimes "temone" (때문에) or "neunde" (는데) which I also understand. But there are many sentences that end up with something unknown to me.
My questions are:
1) do korean kommentators use any other politeness levels, not "hamnida" and "haeyo"?
2) do they always end their sentences with verbs?

It's probably just half way through a sentence. You don't want to conjugate every single verb to polite form, that'd just be stupid. What usually happens I think is just the final verb gets conjugated.

my written korean sucks but i'm actually pretty good speaking wise... so a lot of what i write might be wrong spelling/grammar wise but contextually they're ok.

verb+ 하지요 or 지요 --> sounds like 하죠 (or just 죠) , which might confuse u a bit. it's kinda asking for an affirmative, like "isn't that right?"
verb + 든가 --> usually in conjunction with another clause. Kinda means like "he could either do this (verb 1 +든가) or (clause 2, i guess you can think of it as a dependent clause).
noun + 가 --> this occurs when the subject and predicate get mixed around, which is more ok in korean than in english. it's like: " the expansion was constructed Luxury did".
verb + 고 --> in this situation the 고 acts like an "and" and another clause is about to be added, eg i ate cereal and then i went to school. The reason why this might sound like a sentence's end is cuz the speaker is trailing off midway with an ellipses (...)
그렇지요 --> this is a loud, energetic affirmative and it comes up a lot during broadcasts. it's basically the first one but is a sentence fragment, kinda like the word "correct".

that's all i can see while watching starcraft during the duration of the writing of this post.

i actually think learning korean through watching starcraft is good if you have a basic understanding of Korean because you can contextually fill in the gaps with your knowledge of starcraft. This helps you isolate the parts that you're not certain of and is good for formulating questions about the language. This is in fact how I was able to improve my Korean from shit status to where I speak Korean 80 percent of the time with my coworkers at a Korean school.

good luck and write down words you hear often, even if you don't know the correct spelling, and ask your friends/teachers what they mean.

edit: the korean mentioned above are endings commentators often end with... i shoulda stated that from the start

"korean kommentators" reminds me of Donkey Kong for Snes, how they turned everything into K's. ha.

Leave it to the forum newbie to find the thread that two forum vets could only reference.

edit: What happened to the Konadora translation compilation sticky? NeverGG's photo thread was restickied, but why not Kona's?

well guys he's asking about sentence endings that differ from the usual hamnida or aeyo/ayo and neundae. that's a bit different from konondra's list of regularly occuring vocab as bomb as that list might be

D_so, thanks a lot for your explaination, I will try to keep it in mind while watching VODs. Also thanks to everyone else for their replies and for the link to the commentator's dictionary thread. By the way, I would add the word "sonsu"/"sonsuga" (선수가) there, I hear it a lot throughout the commentaries. I believe it means "a player" and often follows a player's name.
However, I am not sure about this point: am I right to understand that korean kommentators exclusively use these two speech levels "hamnida" and "haeyo"? And all the other verb endings that they use are just conjunction endings? (like 는데, 고, 서, 기 때문에 and so on) I am afraid that I will be trying to recognize the verbs in these forms, while they will be used in some different form.

^ you are on the ball, I dunno where you learned korean but you learned well it makes me happy to see foreigners showing an interest in Korea :D The only cases that I can think of where you might miss something is when they put declarative statements in question form, which obviously end in different forms, and those exclamatory phrases that contain a certain unit, building, or strategy (you'll hear alot of that, eg: junjin barracks, pparen apmadang, shuttle gyunjae, nanjun, multi gyunjae, jungang sasu, unduck tank, samsenchi drop, unyoung ssaum, etc etc.. sry i cant type in korean im at work :\)
