Cool, I actually liked the show. Hopefully, they will make some adjustments to the format so its more competitive and less based on luck

I'll only watch it if Rekrul goes on and it does a crossover with Celebrity Rehab.

Bad ratings compared to what? They had a modest goal and they actually achieved it as far as ratings are concerned. It isn't like the show is a prime-time show that was made to compete with LOST or something.. it was a sci-fi show that wanted to reach the gamer demograph and it did.

The show has televised in australia and a few other parts of the world. USA network bought rights to it and now airs it as a series on their channel. Sci-Fi has reran it several times and included it in marathons. I don't think it is fair to summarize the show as "i heard it didn't do that well."

A. I could have chosen a better choice of words, but by "not great", I meant I heard it did so-so. I did not mean that it did bad or that it sucked. There is a difference in that meaning and what you seem to think I mean. As for the exact comparison, I have seen numbers before once (information posted on the Syfy forums that linked to an official source), but it would likely take me half an hour to find them again to give context.

B. I personally enjoyed the show and watched every episode. The posts on this thread seem to support what I heard in part A elsewhere, but do not represent my personal opinion of the show.

Thanks.

I won't watch unless someone I somehow know is on there again which is not very likely to happen :p

Good luck anyway and I hope it improves on the first one... it does have potential.

It can be good if they get guest commentators who understand the games for each elimination, show more gameplay, don't invite certain gamers if you won't even include his fucking game or even any game in the same genre goddammit.

Precisely. As long as they expand beyond the shiny popular games, then it will be somewhat interesting.

The show was terribad.

The concept didn't make sense. Yeah, let's find the ''ultimate gamer'' by taking random players from the USA and putting them into a house and make them play random, but popular games where some people obviously have massive advantages / disadvantages. That whole idea was just retarded. I did like the when they did the things in ''real'' life too, basically the ONLY thing I really enjoyed, kinda.

About the ''drama'' in the house. The editing was horrible and things were clearly overexegrated and tried to make them seem bigger then they were. This is, of course normal for any reality show, but the way it was executed in this was just bad. I found the drama, the villains and the heroes and w/e in Tila Tequilas reality show more believable and more fun to watch. And the fact is, I don't want to see some stupid relation ship drama in a show that's supposed to be about gamers and gaming.

I expected a true gamer show. Lots of gaming, lots of typical gamer shit talking, tournaments etc what I mean by this is that they actually played the games for a longer time, and more neutral games., instead it turned out to be some crap reality show with a poor concept - worse then those Bachelor shows. The whole, let's play a game for a small amount of time and move to next game didn't really work. I remember the Guitar Hero elimination. The elimination was edited to be a tight thing, but in reality, the guy with the contact lenses just destroyed the other guy without any effort. And anybody with any gaming experience in general, knew that he would absolutely have no chance. Hurrayh for exciting finals I suppose.

I do have to give props to them trying this concept though. Somehow has to take the first steps. I might sound harsh but this is what I think. Personally I think the only reason people even watched the first season was because it was a new concept, but the question is, now that they have seen it, will they return for season 2?

The best part of this show was when incontrol cried on national television. After they kicked him off i stopped watching too.

IMO the game choices were kinda lame. Not that I wanted to see starcraft being played or anything instead but the fact that they apparently ran out of games for competitions? I mean the finale was just a rehash of previous episodes (games which were already played). Why not pick different games from the same genre? Or maybe set it up to have like teams of the best players from each genre who go up in various games and have to do some sort of elimination round based upon performance. I mean game show competition isn't that hard to think for ideas. I liked the concept of taking the video games into real life challenges, that stuff interests me. I wouldn't watch a show that did nothing put film 10 people playing halo for 45 minutes

No one would watch the show if it was nothing but 'lots of gaming.'

There's a reason there aren't gaming tv channels across the world already... the scyfy (sp?) channel didn't exactly try to strike oil with this show...

That guy who won was actually a cs player. Except he was a source player and he wasn't even good at it. He was like a 600 fpr source shitter and hes now the "ultimate gamer". Kinda pathetic IMO. If you can't even play source at a decent level I don't know what to say. More accurate would be 'barely mediocre gamer.'

Your right, I suppose it wouldn't get that high ratings. But it was still something I expected from something with ''Ultimate Gamer'' in it. The thing is though, I enjoy watching players play, I watch StarCraft like probably you do. I enjoy watching people that are better than me. I don't really mind the game, I can get entertained by watching Tetris. The title had nothing to do with the show though, the title Ultimate Gamer, all of those people had one or two games they were good at, rest they were mediocre or they just sucked. And this what annoyed me. Hell you could have thrown me in or some other console players in there that probably would have done a better job as a first timers at some of the games. And would I even be worty or capable of holding a title called Ultimate Gamer? No. But it just shows how poorly planned it was.

But in the end what I got was another Bachelor type reality crap with a poor concept. I mean seriously, you could take a Bachelor show and made the contestant play games for the roses and you'd have a better show, Lol. And it would be more fun to watch instead of the one sided rapes / totally predictable outcomes of the game challenges. And you could also have the cheesy crap in it too, that wouldn't feel totally out of place.

Anyways, again, just my 2 cents.

I thought it was really good for what I was expecting. I even watched it til the end, which I hadn't planned on doing. That was mostly cause of Jamal. That dude was hilarious. Besides, what are you expecting for a show about video games? It was the first watchable video game show since Nick Arcade.

I didnt think the show was THAT bad. They managed to get an interesting cast of people which made the reality part of it worth watching. The real life challenges were also relatively well done.

The format of the gaming however was just really sad. Instead of WCG ultimate gamer, it was x-box ultimate gamer, which in itself was terrible because most WCG games arent on X-box. It also set up the huge discrepancies in skill levels when you would be facing a guitar hero player up against a counterstrike player in guitar hero. It wasnt exactly a fair competition.

If I was going to suggest a format, I would go through the WCG games, and have the pros have a bye when their game comes up, preventing them from smashing the unfortunate other players. It would also allow them to choose to help others out with their training. Maybe then a game with the pro and the week's winner with some sort of seperate prize would be interesting.

The non-gamer and even the casual gamer demographic isn't even going to notice a difference in skill between Flash playing Starcraft and some random guy playing a random sports game. So why should they bother making it highly competitive, their success is measured in people watching, not in how pleased the hardcore gamers are with it.

I actually watched the whole first series. I think the title is misleading because it's ultimate "console" gamer which is obviously a step down from PC games.
The thing is all reality TV shows are pretty awful anyway so if you're expecting this to be better than them then you're expectations are too high.
As reality TV goes I thought it was pretty good and if they manage to make the 2nd series as good as the 1st then it's definitely watchable.

For people that go, " Ultimate Gamer rating horribad!!1!", I would like to ask:
You do realise how and what TV shows get sequels don't you?

I honestly think this show is doing far more to hurt "our demographic" (gamers who want to be taken seriously I guess? unsure exactly how to phrase the collective "us" that this is more or less portraying) than any possible good we can hope to gain from exposure. Obviously it had modest ratings goals and managed to hit them, this kind of show is absurdly formulaic and has been done to death on every station with every possible niche, it would be difficult to not turn a modest profit with how efficiently it can be pumped out at this point.

Of course the scenes with incontrol all ruled and if someone I could pretend to be loosely connected with was in another season I would probably catch a few episodes.
