More accurate would be 'barely mediocre gamer.' barely mediocre gamer or ultimate USA gamer would fit well, yeah

I think I would be a little dissapointed if the concept stays the same for the 2nd Season. With a season's worth of experience, the producers should be able to make some changes to make the show a little more interesting and unique. As it was, it was too much about a handful of people trapped inside a house, isolated from the world and not so much about the gaming or ultimateness. We've seen it done before a million times, whether it's about a group of overweight people trying to lose weight, a bachelor trying to defile as many women as possible while upholding his facade of gentlemenness or people sitting on a tropical island causing personal conflicts because there is nothing else to do there.
The show needed more game related things going on. More competitions, more games, more result tables and graphics, more prizes, less eliminations (unless they really deserved to be kicked out due to poor performance). Less people standing side by side being told by the presenters of the show what is going to happen. And less pre-commercial break teasers.

Not that you're biased or anything, right?..
I couldn't make it through a show. I think there are plenty of gamers who would enjoy simply watching a show that provides good coverage on actual competition and, as far as I know, one station is moving forward with doing this right now. I just don't understand the interest people have in reality television shows so this could be my bias but this show to me was like watching a drama show based on the conversations that happen on the sideline of a football game instead of the actual game.

i don't understand why ppl are being so negative about this show, it really wasn't horrible and it's at least a step in the right direction as far as e-sports goes. I think most ppl would like e-sports to become a bigger part of US culture and shows like this are a way to achieve this. I really think we should support it. Yes most of the games are lame console games, but honestly that's what is going to get casual gamers to watch. If they just did SC and Counterstrike it'd be great for the hardcore e-sports community, but the audience would be a lot smaller. If this show is successful it could mean really good e-sports related shows in the future..
personally i thought i was entertaining and from a reality show stand-point it's no worse than any of the other 10,000 reality shows on TV..

For a first season, the season was satisfactory. I watched initially because of all the hype on this website, and even when InControl was given the boot I still watched it until the end. That being said, if this is simply the same concept with different players, I would definitely not watch.

WCG Ultimate Gamer was a good show. I found it cheesy and lightweight at first, but when you learn to accept what it is, and what it's aiming for, it's a success. It wasn't trying to be a show for snobby gaming elitists as yourselves to worship, it was meant to be an entertaining look inside the world of competitive gaming, and that's exactly what it was. It showed a subculture to an audience that may have never learned of it otherwise. Seriously, do you expect such people to jump into learning about this stuff by watching a hive of nerdlings drool at computer monitors a la G4's Arena? (Though I kind of liked that show.)
At first, I thought the show was just OK. Then, I grew to like it. And now, having watched Season 1 multiple times, I love it. It's like that two-star movie that you like... it's not amazing, it's not trying to be amazing, but you just can't get enough of it. What WAS amazing though was the finale... it showed a glimpse of what competitive gaming is all about. Can't wait for Season 2.

I watched every episode of season 1, wish there were some PC games though...

Sure it's no worse than any other reality show on TV, but it's certainly not any better. And as others have said, the competitions (the saving grace of any reality show, imo) could all be summed up as one sided rape by the person specializing in that week's genre. I have no idea how the they could fix this without ruining the premise of the show though.
What was the mainstream reaction to this show anyway? Aside from watching a few episodes, I've only heard about this show from TLers.

Incontrol made it the show somewhat acceptable though. =)

I only watched because of Inc I wouldn't watch if there wasn't someone in starcraft there. And I didn't like the real life challenges, but I suppose it has to appeal to less "hardcore" gamers too. I just think 12 gamers in a loft with 12 PC's would be interesting. PC gaming is so much better than Console gaming. Of course, have challenges in various team challenges or something, and then have elimination battles in a double elimination style, last place gets put on a chopping block, first place still picks who to battle with them to get out. Meh I'll still only watch if a SC gamer is there. It was the only thing that connected me ( a non console gamer) to the show at all.

Im going to audition for the show. And since nobody has heard of me i'll be like the next Dante. I'll claim to be pro gamer at some random game, maybe melee, and if i actually get on the show i'll start hella drama.

The main reason why the show sucked was because all the games were trash pop culture shit. They need to bring in the real games; starcraft, counterstrike, quake 3, unreal 2004, street fighter 3 or 4, hell even oldschool games like tetris or whatever to see who can get the most points/lines. And sc2 if it comes out
