West Ham always give the top teams trouble. They're a top 10/top8 side. How do you figure? Liverpool were awful. Gerrard was missing completely - for the first half he played deep and rarely looked for the ball like he normally does, nor was Kuyt as active. Mascherano for one is heavily overrated, he always go into harsh tackles and challenges, constantly giving away free kicks. What to say about their defence? Oh my, Johnson is excellent going forward but extremely bad defensively (for Liverpool standards anyway), while Insua is of the same mold, though he doesn't do much going forward - other than dribble and hope. Carragher was never and never will be a player you can rely on, always mistake prone, likewise Skrttel. Going forward they're good yeah, Torres was on fire, Babel exciting and Benayuon seems on form with the ball, running at defenders but defensively, atm, any "top tier" team would easily dismantle them is they continue on this route. Anyway, they've already proven this year, having already lost as many games as they have the whole of last season, that in no way will they be 2nd or I doubt even 3rd. Yeah West Ham, top 8 or 10 .. wooo, there's something to go on about, they didn't play well, Liverpool were poor. Also consider this, Charlton Cole would only make the bench for Liverpool out of the "top 4" teams, he'd be playing reserves for Utd, Chelsea or Arsenal.

yeah while i admit the game was rough, i dont think 'disgracful' and 'ridiculous' is really warranted here. i mean, its soccer; some games will be rougher than others. ... not to mention dani making a big fucking deal all the time. pretty annoying

Disgraceful is the least one can call that.

I'm just attacking Weligton, who took it wayyyyyyy too far. He even came close to inciting a brawl after swing at Ibra.

It’s virtually inconceivable that the 2010 World Cup will take place without Lionel Messi, Franck Ribery or Cristiano Ronaldo. Few, if any, players can match their individual brilliance and I would argue none are as enjoyable to watch. But if the World Cup were next week and not nine months from now, Messi and Ribery would have to play their way in through difficult two-legged play-off matches, while Ronaldo would be vacationing in Ibiza. Messi-Ribery-Ronaldo The question of whether the World Cup is still the World Cup without the world’s biggest starts was a point of some debate at the Gol TV office last week. History’s best players are more often remembered by what they do one summer every four years than any of the goals and highlights from a career’s worth of club football. Sweden ‘58 saw the coronation of a king as a 17 year-old Pele announced himself to the world. Germany ‘74 gave birth to the “Cruyff Turn” when the legendary Dutchman unveiled his trade-mark move for future professionals to mimic. Argentina ‘78 saw ‘Nene’ Cubillas score five goals to lead Peru deep into the tournament. For some time after, it was not at all blasphemous to ask whether Cubillas was actually better than Pele. Mexico ‘86 witnessed what might be the most exciting two minutes in soccer’s long and cluttered history as Diego Maradona single-‘handedly’ took down England. None of these players were limited to what they showed in World Cup play, but the World Cup immortalized them. What incredible feats will today’s modern magicians pull off for future generations to gawk at? And will they even get the chance to do it on the biggest stage? If Argentina, France and Portugal aren’t good enough for South Africa, are Messi, Ribery and Ronaldo less special for it? And perhaps more importantly, are you less interested? He stamped on Ibra, stamped on Messi, and swung at Pique's head from behind during a set piece. The entire Malaga team played dirty, but this was just fucking ridiculous. yeah that pissed me off, he should get the same punishment as Pepe or even more imo

Soooo close.. =[ On September 27 2009 11:28 mAKiTO wrote: Why is Alfredo Dstefano not remembered as much as pele or maradona? because he never made an impact on a world cup I think it goes a bit above that. Di Stefano has greater reputation than than Puskas who did make a big impact with Hungary. And who are these people that don't remember Di Stefano? Both Maradona and Pele love using Di Stefano to say the other wasn't the greatest ever. I'd say it has more to do with the antiquity of Di Stefano's era (and the percieved lack of competition). Plus also things like not having a national hype squad (unlike the above) given his dubious national allegiances.

History’s best players are more often remembered by what they do one summer every four years than any of the goals and highlights from a career’s worth of club football. Before cable TV, before the Bosman Law. It wasn't until very recently that very few players could play at foreign clubs and that no1 watched foreign football leagues. The only time a european would watch Pele play was in the World Cup. Nowadays all the best players play in La Liga, Premiership and Serie A, and almost every football fan in hte world can watch them play whenever. Champions League is also a more solid competition than it was back in the times of the Champions Cup where teams would get to the semis by trashing shitty unknown teams by 7-0 along the way. Portugal has to wait for Sweden to draw or lose one game (they play Denmark away), and win the remaining games against Hungary and Malta. Then beat whoever we get in the playoffs.

Thank god he didn't get him with the second kick, he could have knocked him out with a hit at the back of the head. And just 10 matches banned? I've seen people go to jail for stuff like this. But then you have the spanish press who obviously support Real Madrid playing the good boy-bad day card on him and now it even looks like he's the victim here.
