It'll slow you down at first, but it should only take a handful of days at most to get back up to speed. Once you're done with that, you've only opened up yourself up to play faster than before. Don't give up before you've started! ![]()

Some things that I was wondering about: 1) What are the effects of the various items in those 2v2s? Looked like one of them makes an opponent's screen go dark for a short while (commentators just referred to it as "dark"), some others might add or remove lines, and another that clears a couple of columns (they called it the "10 ton").. any other special blocks? It looks like they build them up and then spam them at the opponent all at once. 2) I looked up what T-spins are, but what's the benefit of doing them? Do they just add lines to your opponent's screen? 3) What is the criteria for getting combos to count? Is it just that you have to clear lines within some tiny fraction of a second? How much does each extra part of a combo add to your opponent's screen? 4) I can't tell if there's such a thing as having different "play styles" at this level of competition -- such as going for tetrises, going for T-spins, or long combos of singles/doubles? It looked to me that most of the victories came from sudden bonuses they get from getting long combos of singles to me.

2) Yes, t-spins send additional garbage to the opponent. They're worth more than tetrises, in fact. 3) Clearing lines with consecutive pieces earns a combo. The combo count starts with the second piece in the chain -- no combo, combo 1, combo 2, combo 3, etc. Combos are extremely overpowered at the moment. The breakdown of sends for combos is +1, +1, +2, +2, +3, +3, and +4 for every combo after. So, a combo 6 would add 12 rows to whatever you'd normally send. 4) I'd say that since Hangame Tetris eliminates any way of blocking incoming garbage, combos are a pretty dominant strategy. When countering is available, other strategies have more viability. See http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4705966752342139093 for an example of what the same rule set would look like with garbage countering and blocking.
