I dunno as someone that spends the majority of my osu time mapping (though I hesitate to call myself a mapper because im terrible at it) It Is kind of annoying when people tell me they disable/dim things that I put in the map because it does take a bit of effort and I do go to lengths to make sure things are readable.
A lot of sbs can be really cool, and make playing the map way more exciting without being distracting. Look at any of Vals maps. Even when im going for scores ill play dance number or mythologia or talent shredder with sb because they'r straight up fun. Siriru and a few other mappers do really cool sbs too, and its hard not to appreciate the sheer technical commitment it takes to create complex storyboards using peppys shitty tools.
Though map forced skins are bullshit really, fuck that.

Readability is all subjective though, like what if I'm color blind and the person making the map isn't? Even if they think the combo colors against the bg are readable, I find them to be unreadable.
Storyboards and skins I can understand why people get upset about them because they do take a while to make and people usually put a lot of effort into making them. But backgrounds are usually just random stuff people found on Google Images or Danbooru or Konachan and threw into the song folder, there's not really a lot of effort involved there so I don't feel as bad.
(I'm not actually color blind)

It is just a skin I stole from one of the nightcore maps and a few bits and pieces from some others like a brighter reverse arrow and less extravagant starbursts. Uploaded

I am looking for a nice spinner skin so if someone has one please post it :D

Been a bit busy lately with family so I haven't gotten around to getting on the computer until today. Since everyone's posting their skins I guess I'll post mine too http://www.mediafire.com/?2blnc6d00q9197g . I highly recommend removing backgrounds with this skin, but it seems like peppy updated osu again (I don't have consistent enough internet at the moment to download the update) so iono how removing bgs works now. Also going from 24 inch monitor to 14 inch while playing on 1024x768 res sucks and I feel like messed with my tablet area.

i can't see blue circles on black backgrounds cuz i'm retarded so instead of deleting bgs i just make them grey
and this new dimming thing just makes them black so i'm boned

also.
http://osu.ppy.sh/s/32380 Horrible skin
Stop forcing me to use really retarded skins that I can't actually see what I'm supposed to click next
wallpaper is soso - some are ok ish, some are really bad for visibility for me
oh and if I become a mapper and make my own video to go along with it, can I get peppy to force everyone to view the video only? (zzz)

You can disable skin, which uses your skin combo colours (which you can change). I changed all of my combo colours to be really bright so I never have that problem now ~

whoa whoa whoa, how i do that? do i need to add something to my skin folder

Technically, all you have to do is play it in a ranked mode start to finish... including nofail.

There should be a skin.ini in your skin folder. Just open it in notepad and search for [Colours] and edit the combo colours.

that feeling when you are kicked from lobbies often without saying a word

Man, mapping is fun and all but sitting here for the next several months constantly refreshing mod queues and spamming modreqs until I collect enough arbitrary star points has got to be the most dampening feeling ever.
Oh well, not much to be done about it I guess

I feel like every time I quit this game and come back I magically get better.
Some decent stuff: + Show Spoiler +

Good to see that in over 3 years they still haven't improved the ranking process at all for non-established mappers
It's literally all about who you know that has some type of power or staff connection if you want things ranked and aren't a really well-known mapper
Star priority has always meant jack shit and always will mean jack shit until they seriously start enforcing that the BATs only look at the ones with a ton of SP

Yeah, that system is retarded.

Enforcing starpower could be part of the problem... but I feel like it doesnt change the fact that the community at large seems ridiculously exclusive and only stars/mods/plays maps from their friends, their favorite mappers and themselves. There really needs go be more incentive for people to mod in general and actually contribute to the ranking process.. not to mention getting exposure in the first place is hard enough. I mean, you cant even pick unranked maps in multi without dl limiting half the room.

I don't understand why you care how someone else chooses to enjoy the game? Everyone should be required to play sc2 in high graphics then so they can enjoy the artwork. Obviously not, my point is why does everyone else feel the need to impose their will on how I play the game?
If mappers really had such an issue with it, I would love to donate directly to them and pay for black BG's because I like the songs and way they map, not because of a freaking BG they google'd. If I wanted to watch an anime, I would go do that. I play the game because I like the game-play, why anyone else cares what I have on my screen is beyond me. On the osu forums, the funniest thing is that people who try and impose their will on others seem to not even play the game. If they do, they play normal songs where they have time to stare at a storyboard while playing.
TL;DR: I would love to pay mappers to just have a black BG option for the hardest difficultly
