A lot of sbs can be really cool, and make playing the map way more exciting without being distracting. Look at any of Vals maps. Even when im going for scores ill play dance number or mythologia or talent shredder with sb because they'r straight up fun. Siriru and a few other mappers do really cool sbs too, and its hard not to appreciate the sheer technical commitment it takes to create complex storyboards using peppys shitty tools. Though map forced skins are bullshit really, fuck that. I don't understand why you care how someone else chooses to enjoy the game? Everyone should be required to play sc2 in high graphics then so they can enjoy the artwork. Obviously not, my point is why does everyone else feel the need to impose their will on how I play the game? If mappers really had such an issue with it, I would love to donate directly to them and pay for black BG's because I like the songs and way they map, not because of a freaking BG they google'd. If I wanted to watch an anime, I would go do that. I play the game because I like the game-play, why anyone else cares what I have on my screen is beyond me. On the osu forums, the funniest thing is that people who try and impose their will on others seem to not even play the game. If they do, they play normal songs where they have time to stare at a storyboard while playing. TL;DR: I would love to pay mappers to just have a black BG option for the hardest difficultly
That is pretty much how I feel. While the BG and SB might be nice, and well put together, and give a certain personality to the map, if it detracts from my ability to enjoy myself playing osu, then there should be no reason to stop me from making the changes I need to make to enjoy myself better. I don't play osu to look at a background, or an SB, I pay it to move my mouse and hit buttons in a synchronized fashion with the music. To me the real personality of a map is the rhythm and the note placement that make up the actual map. Everything else is incidental.

Amen to that.

At the moment i have the 'cartoon' skin with a changed cursor. But what annoys me a little bit is that there are some kind of stars (?) dropping out of the cursor, and whenever i use z/x, the stars shoot out of the cursor left/right. Is there any way to stop this?
edit: you can't see it on the picture above, because it only happens when i'm in a map. The stars that come out of the cursor I believe are named as star2.png in your osu skin folder. really? Thanks a lot!
edit: Hm, couldn't find such a file in my skin folder. I also checked the other files and none of them look anything like the stars. Thanks for the suggestion though

If there's no file then I think it defaults to the default skin star2.png, not sure but I think that's the case
So just make a transparent star2.png and add it to your skin folder and that should fix it

so, a new score im happy with - first time i passed this, and with tapping only, outside the few panic areas. + Show Spoiler + :D
edit - and this in first try:
+ Show Spoiler +
now, if only i could actually hit the shit reliably instead of having half my hits missing

Just noticed that BGs go to pitch black at the extreme of the dim bar now.
Looks like he caved on that one?

Yeah, seems like he allows for dim 100% now

Yeah, seems like he allows for dim 100% now randomly when there's pauses in the map (dunno how short of a pause, because it happens for a split second which is disorienting), it becomes like no dim at all
ex: http://osu.ppy.sh/b/201463 at around... well after the Hard's spinner/ when it starts to say "meguru meguru~..."
ex 2: http://osu.ppy.sh/b/194406
there's more but I don't feel like finding all of them through my songs.

I'm really liking your map to be honest, it's better than most maps that get ranked nowadays.
(good thing you fixed that offset :p)

I'm improving at mania a lot. I should try to get a good video of some of what I play that isn't ranked/widely available.

Hehe, a few days ago I randomly decided to download like 6 of val0108's maps after playing some of 'with a dance number' and 'mythologia's end'. Amazing how easy a lot of other maps seem, after you've seriously played maps of similar difficulty to those 2. I have to say i'm not passing any of them, although some very close.
@ MegaMenEXE: thanks! i'll try that.
Oh, and btw, sometimes i play maps i used to play, because i want to know how much i've improved. When i'm nearly fc'ing them, i feel like i have to, while sometimes getting a lot of pp for it. Now i am like in the top 100 of the netherlands, but i still feel like i'm very bad. Is that because i've been 'farming' too much, or does everybody do that? Edit: Or is it bad to pay any attention to it at all? Edit2: For anyone interested, my osu account is yorickblabla. (i checked, and at the moment of typing, i'm no. 101, it seems to fluctuate quite a bit)
Edit3: Hakker, i downloaded your map, it's very nice! I have to say, i don't really like the song, but the map flows very natural with it. I'm not really in a position to critisize anyone, but i really like beatmaps that get along well with the music, if you know what i mean. If the music holds back (i don't know how to properly say it in english), i like it if a beatmap slows down, and the other way round. I had this feeling with about 80 or 90 percent of your map, but not everywhere. Atm i am too lazy to give examples, but i can if feel it'd be appropriate. I hope this was helpful

ah wow im glad you guys were able to enjoy it x.x
haha yeah i know some parts are still a little awkward. .. if you get a chance yorbon i could even give you some cute star points or something >>

To be honest the country rankings are pretty dumb. I´m currently rank 32 of the Netherlands but I know people that are above me that aren´t able to play some maps I can play, they´re just better and getting pp. On the other hand I know people that are below me are way better than me. (besides, we suck as a country anyway... only that the our top 5-6 players are actually damn good, and those aren't even the top 5 pp ranked.)
I'm caring less about my rank every day and realizing more and more how pointless of a stat it is. Hell I'd even go as far as to say accuracy would be a better rating system, but then you can't look at average acc.
The point I really want to make is: Please please please do not, ever, change what you play from what you want to play simply because of a community view. With that I mean things like 'score farming', 'pp farming', 'high playcount' , 'bad accuracy' etc. Play what you're having fun with, not what you a community believes is the 'right' way to play
|
And that's why I only play by myself in offline mode now
Playing for rank is boring
|
lol @ ranks on osu
PP is a system that shows how much somebody farms. You don't get PP from passing boot [Shoe] with HR or passing Mythologia with HR, you get PP from FCing a random [Hard] diff to some anime tv size song.
