Im just about ready to hop into this game, just have some questions :
Is there lore ? is it atleast mildly interesting ?
Is it completely free to play or do you have to shell out the $$ if you want to stay competitive?
It it more of a number crunching game or can you make the difference with skill ?
Can i play it solo ? Im planning to join the TL guild thingy but none of my friends are playing EVE.
I think thats it for now. Thx for any answers.

It is NOT F2P. You can sustain your presence in the game with in game currency but you will have to work for it and it won't be easy at first.
You can make the difference with intelligence (and per extension skill), preparation and game knowledge is as important as raw game skills.
You can play solo thought the PvE environment isn't the most diverse you will find in the MMO world.

Yes technically there's Lore. However you don't really interact with it much in the game, and it's not particularly interesting to a regulay EVE player unless you read the EVE books / wiki / whatever to actually engage yourself in it. It's interesting if you're into it, but like I said...zero impact on the game unless you join the militia.
Is it completely free to play or do you have to shell out the $$ if you want to stay competitive? Free to download EVE client, you pay monthly towards your account to play. You can either pay with real money or you can pay with in-game money. I don't know what a Plex costs out of game but last I was online they were like 480m ISK in game, which isn't difficult to get if you actually put forth the effort to get it. Even noobie chars can do it.
There's no real-money ships/modules or w/e so you don't have to spend any real money to play the game like anyone else.
It it more of a number crunching game or can you make the difference with skill ? EVE is pretty unique in that anyone can do anything (with the appropriate time and plex invested), and it's largely skill based. How well you handle under pressure, how to be a leader/follower, communication skills, and so on are pretty important as well.
There's a lot involved in number crunching, but only if you're making some crazy new bizarre fit that's never been used before..at the very beginning of your EVE life you won't be doing any number crunching really.
Can i play it solo? Im planning to join the TL guild thingy but none of my friends are playing EVE. You can play solo, most people in the game play solo I'd imagine.
There's solo PVP, PVE, and group PVE, PVP. You can do any and all of this in any areas of the game, so you can do either/or whenever you want and interchangeably.
Also it's a corp not a guild

http://drill.eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=12300901 yeah let’s just cruise around nullsec in my crystal clone, while piloting a (117mil) harb http://drill.eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=12300916 , yeah this is totally a good idea. Td:lr Raven Pilot switches to armor harb for pvp, loses his crystal clone.
That would be cool, to instead of having one system per wormhole, there would be multiple systems interconnected by gates that were constructed and defended by, say, the Sleepers, and you had to do a lot of work to reactivate them or some bullshit like fueling. Would only be available to a limited number of higher level wormholes or something.

Make 1 mistake, lose entire fleet.

So in my tribox 42 jump roam to sara, I realized that no one wants to engage a sleipnir + curse. Who knew?
Also if you signed up for the tournament a month ago and aren't participating anymore let me know so I can take you off the list.

Eveonline is largely about preplanned setups and actions, and a small percent is just going through the motions once you get into a fight. In this way, Eve is less forgiving than other mmos (which is why the age of player base is much higher comparatively). The pace of action is less constant compared to the other popular mmos though, so if you want constant action, EVE won't be for you.

Definitely older, but don't let what people on the eve forums say about being more intelligent fool you. The average eve player (non Tl alliance) is as dumb as a box of rocks.

You guys always say that, but whenever I'm in open space I meet geniuses with creative ideas which are so highly intelligent that they seem completely retarded to me.

Either a master using drunken boxing or an idiot. In Eve, it's nearly impossible to distinguish the two until after the engagement.
