Ask yourself, is it really skill to know: what to engage; who to target; how to maintain range; how to split targets; how to might multiple targets; etc?
its a bit of both knowledge and skill.

It's the easiest MMO i have ever played and it can still be fun, although i get bored of it after 30 minutes. I would have to disagree here, although being a former hardcore raider and decent arena pvper, I get bored after 30 minutes as well. Casual wow is very easy, but wow at the highest levels is not. In both PvE and PvP wow, there's 2 main aspects to being "good" ... a solid grasp of strategy/theorycrafting, and then the ability to execute it. In PvE, that means coming up with a good strategy to kill a boss. But even after getting the strategy down, the execution is killer, and a lot of guilds fail there. It's very possible to be extremely knowledgable about wow yet be "bad" at it -- knowing exactly how to kill a boss, but unable to execute it. In PvP, it means understanding your comp's strengths and weaknesses, talking to your partners about what CCs you have and if they share diminishing returns, how to open against various popular comps, how to set up kills, etc. But beyond the knowledge again there is execution -- if you're a keyboard turning clicker you'll never get very far in arena. In starcraft there's APM or EAPM. In WoW, there is also a mechanical basis upon which "skill" is built, although there's no doubt that its a more carebear game. Using mouse not keyboard for turning, setting up an effective UI and hotkeys, and having a decent reaction time for example, are the fundamentals. So there seems to be divided opinion here. Is there a mechanical aspect to being good at EVE, beyond just knowledge and theorycrafting and character SP? Maybe that's why I felt kinda detached to the game. TBH I'd rather play WoW in space than chess in space.

Agree quiong. Don't get me wrong, I love the game but EVE lacks the mechanics or any real technique beyond simple clicks in which people can use to showcase skill. Meh, done bashing the game. probably resubbing soon

All the jobs I've ever had (internships, lab tech, and tech support) required a decent amount of knowledge, but not so much execution. I could have had the worst reflexes ever and still done decently. Edit: I'm probably going to sub too, just to remove trial account skill/ship restrictions. Dunno if i'll end up devoting much time to the game, however. I'm content to just train skills in the background.

But i just went on eve central, and they are freaking 700 mil! WTH when did that happen! I will never afford those things. Considering that a hulk with perfect efficiency can only make like 39mil and hour mining in low sec.......... this would take forever to simply get the ship. Let alone all of the fitting... Black ops are the cheaper of the two T2 Battleships, and significantly cheaper at that. 700M isn't really that much isk. With some knowledge of the game I turned 120 M into 500M in less than 2 weeks on an account with less than 2.5M SP. The profit I achieved will also exponentially increase as I get better skills. Making money in EVE is just about knowing what you are doing. It is really quite easy to make money once you know what you are doing. Mail me ingame at ShoreTay / Whopewpews and I'll give somedetails.

I'd just forget about black ops BS or whatever. For one, battleships are slow and no fun. If I stay in this game, I'm aiming for Covert ops -> Stealth bomber -> Recon ships. If you can get a group of stealth bombers together, I'd imagine it would be a lot of fun. Decloak launch multiple bombs and torpedo anything that survives, then vanish again. Right now I'm just docked training support skills for 40+ days, then perception skills for the ships. I'll come join the TL corp once that's done with.

We're in a weird place right now. Really weird. I rarely see more than 3people online (even during primetime), our killboard stats suck(this will be our second consecutive week of being last on the kb). It's mostly just me and Amnesty that pvp, while Necros is online a lot of the time. Vil hasn't been online for a week(presumed dead or katatonic(playing Dragon age)), Dex was supposed to fill in instead of him but I don't see him around a lot. Assuming revo isn't going to come back to give CEO to someone else we're going to have to wait another 4 months for CCP to remove his roles, which sucks pretty bad. On the bright side I've finally established a working EVE pc at my uni place so I'm going to start going on roams on weekdays as well although there aren't a lot of EU tz FCs atm but Faffy is testing the waters these days. There's also the issue of alliance tax(10mil per member) because we have 50 members but only a handful of them active. Atleast there's no rain in space.
