As for their fits, I was told we were assembling to shoot up a carrier or something. But that aside, could you enlighten me as to why those fits were bad?

The maelstroms were unable to track anything and apply any damage and had no ability to actually lock down a target and either apply damage or stop it just leaving whenever it wanted. It also made no use of its tanking ship bonus and selected the wrong modules for tanking so it was overpenalised and had less tank than it ought to have had. The typhoon was just a comedy fit. They had no ability to actually hold a target down, no ability to apply damage, no control over the field, no mobility or anything else. To make it more hilarious they actually had MJDs on the maelstrom which are big "I don't want to be here so I'm gonna escape" buttons and still died to ships without warp core scramblers. That shouldn't even be possible. You just press button and leave. At some point they would have actually had to go "I'm gonna bring the not-die button but in the eventuality that I'm dying I'm gonna save it for...". Okay, imagine an idiot sets out to do a task. First he selects his tool, a hammer. However because he's an idiot he doesn't realise that the tool hammer needs other things to work, such as arms. So he sets off with his hammer clenched between his teeth thinking "yeah, this seems legit" to go do his task. Now when he gets there he realises the task is actually fishing and therefore the tool he brought wasn't actually appropriate, even if he could use it, which he can't. Rather than conclude logically that he should probably just go home and then have his comrades bash him over the head with the hammer to put him out of his misery he decides to attempt to fish with the hammer. He does this by submerging his head in the river, hammer still clenched between his teeth, waiting for fish. As he slowly runs out of oxygen he considers his options, either continuing with the plan of 'sit here with a hammer between my teeth waiting for this to somehow work even though I can't see how that would even happen or make any kind of sense' or 'resurface and go home'. Unfortunately he expires while still considering his options. Every part of that metaphor is encompassed by that fit. That's how dumb they are. Seriously.

That's really one of my better metaphors. I need some kind of MS Paint picture for that.

That being said, out of noobish curiosity what kind of battleship (and fit) would do well against cruisers? From my understanding due to a cruiser's speed and sig radius most battleship sized weaponry would struggle to apply DPS to them. I've asked around before and most of the answers I got were along the lines of "you don't take a BS to a cruiser fight."

Scorch oracles work if you fit them correctly but there is a lot of maths we would need to teach you before you understood why. Eve ultimately comes down to maths, the modules all have numbers which interact in known equations and if you are familiar with the numbers it's really easy. Unfortunately people don't actually do that and instead treat the numbers as a fantasy adventure game where you roleplay that the tool you picked works.

I'd assume it involves some fancy piloting on the Oracle's part to keep them at distance?
