Iv been trying desperately to find people to play with, but more experienced players are almost never willing to help me out so iv been looking for other newer players. 1-Will I have to play alone for like 2 years before getting into the end-game/main activities/pvp? 2-I've heard you can pay your subscription with in-game money (buying a PLEX). Is this something you can buy within your first couple of months(3-4) or is it just something you can buy once you have everything and making money is EZ? Like, is it possible for a lowbie to grind that money to buy in-game time? 3-Is there still any rookies left in that game? I don't wanna feel like I'm the only noob in a Universe full of Vets. I've tried the trial a long time ago and it was awesome. I've been looking often into this thread too so I know you guys have been well organized and seems like a cool bunch of ppl. Well if anyone can answer me on those question and/or tell me more about the ''key features'' of EVE, it would appreciated. I really wanna try this for real, I just need the little push to do it.

You can buy them in your first month and with a reasonable commitment you will. Also you can buy characters off of other people with game money so a lot of people in the hatchery have characters significantly older than the time they've been playing. A 2 year old character will cost you about a weekend spent doing pure grinding for isk. Nobody in eve can play eve but the hatchery, they're all rookies and you'll be better than them in about 30 minutes.

From what I could gather from reading tutorials and such was that players seem like they can skill up anything they want in any order they want and it won't really hurt you in the long run, it just costs you the time you spent skilling up something less useful. However, based on a statement like the above, it seems like there is the ability to do some long term damage to your character by investing in the wrong skills a la Diablo 2 wasting skill points. Is this true? If it is, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thermodynamics is a great skill (as in, #1 skill for pvp, never go out without it) but for some reason 99% of EVE players think it is horrible and thus never train it up. Many times we have looked at the character bazaar (where people advertise their characters for sale) and noticed characters with many millions of skillpoints yet no thermodynamics trained, and it bamboozles us. edit: Granted, there are many skills that do reduce the value of a character. When people go onto the character bazaar, most of the time they are looking for a character that is specialised in one area. Trying to sell a character with 30 million skill points all focused in pvp-related skills is worth more than a character that has 40 million skill points but with 15 million in non-pvp-related skills. Make sense?

Make sense? I think I get it. However, the following two characters would be considered equal in terms of pvp skill correct? - 30 million skill points in pvp skills. - 40 million skill points in pvp skills with 10 million of those in non-pvp skills. I don't intend to be selling a character any time soon, I'm more concerned with selecting a skill and gimping myself in the long run by accident. Thanks for the answer! By the way, is most of the information in the OP of this thread still relevant? I understand that the Hatchery seems to be inactive so the recruitment/mentor program is most likely over, but just curious if the other tips are still worth following. I've also been perusing the official Eve forums, wiki, and some site named Eve University, looking for beginner's tips. I trust my fellow TL brothers more though. ![]()

Most of the information is still relevant with some alterations here and there. I believe someone is currently working on updating it. I will say that although lots of the information you will find on the internet and Eve University etc is occasionally on the right path, they are most of the time incredibly inefficient or plain wrong. You're much better off becoming friends with those of us who were in Hatchery that are still active via chat channels or hanging out in our teamspeak and asking questions there.
