Your guide is nice but I feel it lacks anything specifically for potential hatchery pilots, since we fly almost exclusively nano. Gallente ships are almost completely useless for this. Your minmatar description is still quite accurate for hatchery purposes, but your amarr and caldari should probably highlight the reasons why one might pick these races over minmatar as a hatchery pilot. ECM certainly isn't one of those reasons :D

Should mention that the rifter is only about a 24 hour train no matter what race you pick, instead of just 'a short time' which could mean anything to people unfamiliar with the game. I didn't want to put too much information into it, because as a brand new pilot you'll get overwhelmed by information as it is. I'll probably write a new version during some boring ATX match later today.

(not 100% sure about the Amarr stuff, tbh) On July 08 2012 20:16 disformation wrote: EvE is an utopian place, where the race you choose has very little impact. It influences your starting skills, where in the universe you start and how your character does look like. Since every character can train all the skills, your starting skills aren't that important either. For example: You chose to play as a Caldari pilot and start out with a bunch of skills for Caldari ships (makes sense, no?), but decide that you want to fly Amarr ships. No problem at all: start training Amarr skills. You'll lose maybe two days of skill training time, which is not much in EvE time. So just go nuts with the character editor and choose the best/funniest/what ever you want character you can build with it, you will have to look at that guy/gal for a long time. ![]() At the start of your EvE career you will train for a mighty Rifter, which you will be able to fly in no time (think ~24hours and remember that skills train while you are offline), regardless of the race you've picked. After you have gained enough experience you will have to decide what ships you want to fly. Here is a short outline of what the races specialize in, but be sure to check back with our veterans, they will have invaluable advice for you. Gallente: Drones&Blasters. Drones are miniature ships under your control. Don't underestimate them, they are awesome and quite deadly. Most Gallente ships can field a bunch of those and some give extra boni to them. Blasters are close and personal. No range at all, but huge damage. That being said, most Gallente ships don't fit very well into the Hatchery fleets. The Hatchery tries to dictate range and separate enemies. Gallente ships typically lack range and/or speed to fit into this style. Though there are some notable exceptions like the Talos. If you want to be useful in Hatchery fleets as much as possible during every step in your career I wouldn't recommend Gallente as a first pick. Minmatar: Flexible and fast. A lot of useful ships and options. They use Artillery and Autocanons as their main weaponry, sometimes combined with additional missile launchers and drones. Your first real PvP ship the Rifter is build by those guys. Since they are kinda versatile, it is sometimes hard to find a overlapping theme. Probably their theme is: build with duct tape & awesomeness. Being fast and versatile almost by default, the Minmatar offer a lot of ships that are useful in Hatchery fleets. From the fast Rifter to the allrounder Hurricane into the more specialized T2 ships, you can always expect to field something good. Amarr: Lasers. These guys simply love lasers. They have lasers for short range, long range, extreme range, medium range and everything in between. Though most of their stuff tends to be kind of bulky, which partly comes from their tendency to be armor tanked (EvE has shield, armor and structure for hp and most ship use either their shield or their armor to migrate damage) . At first they don't fit the Hatchery style that well, but that soon changes after you are able to field some improved lasers, that combine good accuracy, decent to good range and damage into an awesome package. Their T2 ships are pretty strong and a bunch of those are extremely good in Hatchery fleets, making Amarr a viable choice as well. Caldari: Missiles, ECM and Shields. Missiles are awesome since you can choose between all the available types of damage (and hit the enemy with what hurts him/her/it the most). Missiles come in a variety of long and short ranged. Caldari prefer to shield tank their ships. A special mention goes to ECM, which has a chance to deny enemies the ability to lock targets, which in turn prevents them from attacking. Really nasty and annoying in PvP, depending on which side you are on. While ECM is not the Hatchery's weapon of choice the mix of long range missiles and shield tank allows you to add some modules to your ship, which greatly improve your mobility resulting in ships which fit very well into Hatchery fleets. With the Drake you will be able to field a good and strong allrounder, quite soon in your career. Again all four races have viable ships and choices, but consult your mentor/officer/choice veteran before committing to something that sounds good on paper. For starters I would recommend either Minmatar or Caldari, since they fit into Hatchery fleets more easily. Don't fly Stealth Bombers.

Can I read a guide on it or can you explain what I should be looking at for how much a charicter is worth? In this case, potential. You get 51 days training time free with characters you buy (if you put them on 51s). That toon is within 51 days of a legion.
