They also get unlimited access to flashpoints, warzones, space missions, and character creation options, priority over free players in login queues, and access to operations (free players have no access). They can also use the GTN much more than free players. The only "full" content that free players get is the 1-50 story.

You'll get some Cartel Coins for the time you were subbed (150 per month, I think), but the perks above are for people who continue to subscribe when the game goes free to play.

German page says something different. Of course people who paid 50€ will get more than the f2p user.

I'll definitely sign up when it goes F2P, if only for the leveling experience. I played back in the week-end beta stages, but I didn't want to start another subscription game after I already quit WoW. But the leveling was really good. Even if I just do 1-50 and never play endgame (probably what I'll end up doing) it'll be a nice RPG experience I'm thinking.

Just keep in mind that F2P means no subscription. You still have to purchase the game (which I heard is going on sale for $15 in August)

Red 5 CEO has some disagreements with EA calling it F2P

One more "WoW killer" that shows signs of biting the dust. There's quite the list out there already. If it ends up actually being F2P I might give it a shot. Otherwise I'd rather spend that money on GW

That's literally the best part of the game though.

Yep, I'll do a few of the classes, but I don't give a shit about PvP...if it's anything like Turbine's games and you can unlock credits in game, I'll use them to grab a couple of flashpoints.

It's so funny. EA seems to lose its grip on everything.
If they keep charging money for the box, their player numbers (or better in F2P terms: Their income) will dip so fast, they'll have to shut the game down a couple of months after the free to play change to cut losses.
First of all: Nobody wants to pay money for a free to play game. Are you serious? Why should I buy a game, no matter how cheap, if half the things in that game are kept from me until I pay more money? Especially such important stuff as the endgame content.
Secondly, from all those players who quit, I am personally pretty sure that very few people actually dropped the game because of the subscription fee. It was the game, it was simply bad. It's a worse WoW clone in the Star Wars universe with a couple of extras here and there. The only good thing about the game was the story. People played it, tried to enjoy some endgame, and quit. They're not going to come back and spend money in a F2P shop.
And more importantly: The few players who actually decide to purchase a F2P game won't be held by the game for a long time. The same thing will happen, them quitting after a couple of months, and they will not make a lot of money, or even close to enough to pay back their ridiculous budget.
And the players who are actually still playing the game right now will be lost over time too. There's no way in hell that they're going to be able to keep up good content with all the team cuts that they made over the last few months. And that, on top of the fact that those game mechanics actually bore quite a lot of people now, is just terrible.

EA and Activision are so disconnected from what gamers want it saddens me that people still buy their games. I personally refuse to spend more money on anything they are involved in after swtor/D3/cod series.
These changes just reinforce the fact that EA should not even be in business but are riding the wallets of easily swayed consumers to victory.
So I'm buying a demo...?
Essentially yes

Demoware is where a product is free to play but features of the product are locked until you pay extra money.

I had so much fun leveling my chars to 50, easily the best leveling experience I've had with an MMO. I'll probably still play off and on for however long it takes until I get all 8 classes to 50.

Rift doesn't have near the player base that it used to. I'd say it's quite an overstatement saying that it's going strong. Played SW:TOR for about 2 months and got bored as fuck of spamming wz's. Ended up going afk half the time because they weren't even that fun. Can't say I didn't see this coming.

RIFT has what other MMO's these days does not: a consistently and stable rising playerbase and content addition.
Most MMO's these days have major launches with millions of subs and then get a hangover and drop over half of them and then this continues to compound as a flop and then crashes and burns. RIFT started relatively small, and steadily continued to grow over time and even now is continuing to grow. It was the same deal with EVE. Sure they're not WoW, but they're definitely successful because they were allowed to grow naturally.

Bioware should've made a single player SW game, sequel to KOTOR or something. SWTOR was such a waste of resources.
