The reason games are $60 is because there is usually a middle man holding the game, even in Digital Distribution. When EA is directly getting the money from this, not only is there no reason for this game to be $60 except out of pure greed but the fact that I would be required to download ANOTHER downloader, would have to use that downloader and keep it online and use my bandwith with it just to play that game and won't have the access to my Steam friends while in-game like I would otherwise, yes, I would take that as an issue here that would be game breaking.

It's unnecessary hindrances. You can't even buy the game from stores, you HAVE to download their downloader and use it.

Stop spreading misinformation. The digital-only copy will be exclusive through EA's version of steam, but you can buy the hard copy from stores, install and play as you have with any other game in the past.

How is it misinformation saying that the only digital distribution will be from a shitty steam knockoff that is an unnecessary hindrance to those like me who only buy shit online? Don't kid yourself into thinking this game as well as almost every other game released these days in terms of PC gaming aren't primarily making revenue and sales from Digital Distribution.

EDIT: Let me clarify

When a game like SWTOR is coming out that is going to make or break Bioware and their future, is so heavily invested in, and is being so heavily scrutinized by the community because of how hyped they put it out to be and how average it's turning out to be; forcing your customers who want to download it online (which is a HUGE portion of PC gamers) to download some quasi-Steam service that EA just created creates unnecessary problems and will inevitably be buggy and will only ruin their sales, not increase it. I'm not saying they need to port it to Steam, even though that would be ideal for them, this is all kind of silly. I mean, for WoW for instance you could just direct download off their website no problem.

No one is forcing you to do anything. Get out, see the world for a bit, and while you're at it purchase from the store

Contributing comment, right here.

And sorry, closest game store is over an hour away. I think I'll pass.

But good job completely missing the point / dodging it.

He didn't miss the point at all. You're just being a drama queen about an issues that are not even there.

Fact is there's no one who could make you change your opinion at this point. If you think that EA won't make improvements on there download server that's your fault.

If you're really turn upside down by how greedy game companies are go play a 5$ indie.

Still missing the point.

I'm simply saying forcing users who prefer DD (which is a large portion) to download a new downloader to play one game that doesn't even offer other games other than games EA is releasing is simply not good business. It will only detract from sales, not help them.

That's my point. And if you're denying that restricting ways to make sales unnecessarily will take away sales, go take a middle school economics class and come back here and talk.

I made a legitimate negative claim about this game in terms of how you buy it in terms of convenience, and I get jumped on for "spreading lies" and "finding reasons to hate this game" You can like or hate this game, no game is objectively bad even though I think this game looks unbearably bland and average compared to the hype it got (hint: not saying it's bad). I'm just saying this is extremely inconvenient and a stupid move to advertise EA's new downloader which will only hurt SWTOR

Yeah having to install a small piece of software, such an inconvenience OH WAIT ... no its not.

So you're saying restricting ways to make sales doesn't take away sales?

Back to middle school and take a basic economics class.

Before you post: I'm not saying this makes it a bad game, I'm saying it's an unnecessary move to advertise their new system that will only take away.

However they are far from the first ones to even start this approach. Stardock has done this for a while now with Impulse, and it's been great for international games that might otherwise not have gotten any retail release.

Blizzard pretty much gives you a Dvd with whatever gold version was deemed "ok" to release and a bunch of codes to put into the downloader to eventually have an account. Steam started the exact same way before it became big enough that other publishers decided to ask to step in knowing that pretty much any price Valve would charge them it would be less than the 3-4 middlemen that will charge them for a retail release.

So what's really annoying you? Are you annoyed that they are doing something similar to everybody else? Or that by having an EA store it means they won't go on Steam along with future products meaning you might have to manage 2-3 different clients?

You are either purposely ignoring my point or it is going completely over your head because I've had to repeat this at least 4 times now. Have fun with your game.

It'll take away, how? If someone else manages to get into the online retail business, there will be more competition and prices will be driven down. The reason everyone's charging the same absurd amounts, despite the lack of retailers involved, is because there's no-one around to offer the same product. Just like you might browse several retail outlets to find a game at a reasonable price, you will eventually do the same with multiple different online store tools. Steam's domination of the online market is actually a problem.

Plus, you don't need to go to a physical store to get a physical copy. Amazon does exist and they've worked fine for me on big releases. Always have the copy on release day waiting for me when I get home from work with just regular shipping. Haven't been disappointed, yet.

Your point somehow stipulates that they are somehow worst than everyone else, which I'm just pointing out that almost everyone is jumping into the model.

Or that it's bad for the players playing the games... But we already play games which use an online store/distribution model.

Or that it's bad for the market, which Bibdy pointed out can only drive prices in a better direction if it means there is more competition to get the "better store".

Anyways..... On subject of cool news... Am I the only guy that gets nerd chills even if it has nothing to do with content when they come up with cool new trailers? The intro cinematic (or one of em?) has been released. Part of E3 stuff I guess. Here's hoping they announce a real release frame this E3

The new trailer is breathtaking as always... I love how each CGI trailer is connected to each other with some of the same characters. Yeah, this game is practically a MMO version of KotOR since the player model, attack animation, graphics, environment, are similar. This is gonna be my first MMO game.

This should be a movie. The story is better than the actual movies lol... Its a lot more fun to watch Jedi fighting a bunch of Sith over Jedi fighting a bunch of droids.....

I don't care how hard it would be to get the stuntmen to do it, anything live action star wars from here on needs that kind of saber choreography, all 3 (I think) trailers have had amazing saber sequences, and I CANNOT wait for this game.

Bioware, I will do dirty, dirty things for a beta key!

?????? They made "Return" and a mashup of the three in "Choose". I'm not sure what you're referring to o.O.

and

"Hope" is still my favorite CG trailer.

@DanielErickson playing the BH. Either he's really bad or I'm just not as interested in ranged gameplay as I thought. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to play this game, but maybe my melee bias is bigger than I thought. I wish we had someone with footage who was really good playing the game because then it would give me a better indicator of its capabilities. Just have to wait XD.

Edit: Some more videos of gameplay footage. Mileage may vary and it's nothing profound. This has a collection of links from E3, it's a good page to keep handy for the event.

Man, watching that all I saw was WoW with a Star Wars skin.

Which is all fine and dandy, but when they promised "Heroic Combat" and I get standing face to face shooting blasters in each others faces, it's just kind of a letdown.

It's not that it's necessarily BAD, but it's not as good as they hyped it up to be. It's average. Mediocre. Nothing really revolutionary. Again, which there is absolutely nothing wrong with, but how much they invested into this game and how much they marketed it into being this new thing only makes it more of a letdown for me. Of course if you never experienced that early hype for it that you got from the devs when they promised all of this shit, then it will look better.

My final point I guess is Bioware doesn't really know what makes an MMO good. They are making a singleplayer RPG for multiplayer, essentially. I mean it literally looks exactly like KOTOR in terms of menu interface from what I've seen so far, the dialogue is very ME2/DA2ish, the combat is essentially KOTOR spells but with no pausing necessary, and companions. It would make a fantastic singleplayer game most likely, but as an MMO? It looks average.

It also kind of breaks immersion when EVERYONE is romancing the same character and shit like that.

Nobody knows what makes a MMO good, that doesn't mean it won't be improved. Buying into the hype is your own damn fault, I really don't know why people keep falling for that shit over and over again. Like how many times are people gonna get Daikatana-ed? Think about what you are promised and think about how the definition of the terms changes from person to person, maybe that'll take some of the initial fanboy rabidness out of your judgement.

Not at the replied poster specifically, just hilarious to read some people's expectations of the game initially and then how much of a "let down" it is when they haven't played it.

What interests me most about this game is not actually the game, but the insane amount of money being poured into the marketing of this game and BF3.

There are credible reports that EA is spending around 260 million on just marketing BF3 to go against MW3, and similar amount of cash for Old Republic.

Its a shame the actual gameplay and graphics are so vastly different and clunky from the cinematics.

Thats obviously understandable, but there's nothing new and exciting about this mmo when looking at the actual gameplay. Its really just the WoW model in terms of pve but with the spice of having alot of voiceovers for NPCs.

Consider me bored

My hope lies in GW2.

Dude. DUUUUUUDE.

I need this game.

That's your opinion on what makes an MMO good. Noone has tried this in any MMO so far, and it's been what I personally have been waiting for. I will pretty much sit through several alts just to experience their story and voice acting. If you want a classic grind-MMO just play another game. In fact how can you say it's average and mediocre, and then acknowledge that it's much more story-focused which is the main striking difference about the game?

Is this game seriously getting hate based on a "leaked Beta version"?

All I know is Bioware have never let me down and I still have high hopes for this. Even games which got hate like Jade Empire and Dragon Age 2 were great, people just dismissed them after playing about fifteen minutes because they werent Baldurs Gate. I'll believe they've actually made a bad game when I see it for myself.
