Justin has beaten top Japanese players before. Don't judge everything off one match vid.
In any case that's a British player doing the full parry in the recently posted vid ;(

if you arent in an environment where you play against the very best, then you'll inevitably struggle when the level of your opponents becomes suddenly higher.

Wong / Pyrolee would be very good players in japan if they lived there. Pyro has really sharpened up his play since 2 years ago, Wong's chun li style still isnt as refined as it could be but... it probably isnt demanded of him where he plays...

Yeah I noticed a few blocked hits/strings into Kikouken, something that I presume is questionable at best against better competition that will parry it? That's among other things, but the above I think is the most obvious thing to note, unless I'm totally wrong here.

Except that Justin still does beat Japanese players, they respect his skills and all... but some people don't really like him (got carried away and forgot to shake Raoh's hand when he beat him at Evo, among other things... if you saw the vid of Kuroda beating both Ricky and Justin, that's why he did the whole ceremony thing and didn't shake Justin's hand afterwards). Is he good enough to consistently beat the best of the best in Japan? Maybe not, but then again who in Japan is good enough to consistently beat the best of the best in Japan?

similar arguments can be made for why top foreigners in sc will never be able to win consistently against top korean players, there just aren't as many ridiculously good players as the korean scene

Ah, I guess that theory makes plenty of sense. StarCraft top foreigners don't get as much SC as Korea does so they're not as good. My brother told me that foreigners will probably dominate SC2 because they're going to be able to have tournaments more often. I hope it isn't true, because I like Koreans being at the top. =D

Sorry, kind of off-topic.

Plus, from what I can tell from the footage from the general mood at western fighting game events as large as those, I'd honestly not enjoy it there. =S

Call me jaded, idk.
Esp after that J.wong mvc 2 vid that was just posted i have zero desire to show up at one of these events.

Large events really just depend on the crowd... if you aren't plugged in with at least some of the people going to 'em, it can be pretty boring in between matches.

So the aUFO trial opening was today, fun times. Got the Kamui stuff slowly back into my fingers, owned it up with Fiona, good times.

KOFgoukon: like Myrmidon said, that video was basically a video of "hard mode" . The game is relatively newbie-friendly because it gives you green gems that you can use to slow down the game and to clear an enemy's bullets once you destroy the enemy. Alternatively, these gems can also be used for scoring purposes, which makes the game harder.

I finally got around to uploading a full run of ESPGaluda II on Youtube:

3MC: *envy* It's pretty much confirmed now that our last two arcades in Toronto will not be getting AH2. One of them is currently debating SFIV and BlazBlue; the other one never bothers to get new games and will probably go out of business soon. =P

By the way, if you're gonna try ESPGaluda II, you might want to check out the videos above so you have an idea of what to expect. As long as you save your gems for the boss to slow it down, it shouldn't be too hard imo.

Harem: LOL @ that video. I think I understand how guard breaks work in Marvel, now: once you block one attack in the air (in that case, Megaman's projectile), you can't block again until you land, is that right?

Haji: man, you have no idea what you're missing. Every tournament I've been to has had a really friendly, casual atmosphere. People are talking, sharing advice, and lending joysticks to each other regardless of who's from where. The only times you get that kind of hype is when you have a really big match going on, which is rare. Usually it's all in good fun, too. Moreover, the vast majority of the time, I think it's basically the same as what you'd see in Japan -- judging from "3rd Strike TV"'s footage from Gamers Vision.

So in short, yeah you seem to be jaded for nothing.

3s - [Team Tiger Heat] Emphy (UR), Amir (CH), 5-Star (KE) vs [Team Family] Kai (CH), Sextaro (MA), Pyrolee (YU) - SBO '08 qualifiers at FFA

I'm watching this series of 3v3s right now. I don't want to spoil anything right now, but I will say that the 2nd match, Emphy vs Sextaro, is EPIC! I'm expecting the rest of the matches to be great as well.

+ Show Spoiler [the 3v3s] +

I'll reply with my comments later.

Wow, that was a spectacular series!

+ Show Spoiler [1st 3v3 comments] +
Based on some posts on SRK, Kai said he is playing at 30%-40% due to the prelims being held on American sticks rather than Japanese ones (or vice-versa, not sure).

Emphy's comeback vs Sextaro was incredible!

Amir vs Pyro: walk-up lightning legs ftw in round 2! Looks like Amir learned how to buffer lightning legs in the day between his podcast with Gootecks and the qualifiers. Lol @ "Amir's invincible" when he does a psychic far roundhouse through Pyro's zenpo-tenshin!

Pyro played exceedingly well throughout the 3v3.

+ Show Spoiler [2nd 3v3 comments] +
At the end of Yi vs Kai, after Yi blocked the EX spinning bird kick he could have done mp-shoryu xx SA3 and won right away instead of doing sweep. The guy ShinRyuX from Florida who played with us in Waterloo for a while would consistently do this every time he blocked an EX spinning bird kick. I'm surprised Yi didn't. o.O

Wow @ Ken I. predicting Yi's shoryus every time. :O

Wow @ Emphy beating Ken I. again! I've been told Urien vs Makoto is a difficult matchup.

OHHHHH @ Emphy vs Pyro end of 1st round! OHHHHH @ Emphy winning after Pyro's taunt!!

+ Show Spoiler [3rd 3v3 comments] +
SICK ground cross-up by Yi at the end of round 1, dashing under Pyro's attempted cross-up divekick! WOW OH SHIT, YI WON!! Can Ken I. and Kai pull through?!

OHHH MY GOD Yi mashed out of stun in 2nd round before Ken I. could do his combo! Great play by Ken I.

I'm surprised Team Tiger Heat is sending Emphy up vs Ken. I and not Amir, due to the weak Urien vs Makoto matchup. Then again, he did win the first two matches, and I guess you wouldn't want Amir-chun to get peaced out by Makoto bullshit. Round 2: oh shit, OH SHIT IS EMPHY GOING TO MAKE ANOTHER NO-LIFE COMEBACK?! Awwwww, almost. Good shit at Emphy's unblockable setup in round 3. By the way, sometimes if the opponent low-parries in that situation, and you try to hit them right away, you can push them out of the aegis, which is why I think Emphy opted to j.rh instead.

I will be really surprised if Kai can beat both Emphy and Amir for the win. :O Lol @ using EX-fireball, costing him his super! Nice comeback, though.

Amir vs Kai was really intense. Amir definitely looked superior, though. GG!

Amir's chun vs chun looked a lot more solid than kai's
he was able to stay way more aggressive and pressure constantly
emphy vs ken I was just disgusting, can't believe he won 3x
pyro is pretty nasty though that's no lie
