I started playing dota couple of months ago and I am playing on ICCUP server. I noticed that there is a 3x3 mode there and now I want to try it, however, I cannot check for the next several days what are the differences between the 5x5 and 3x3 modes in iccup, so I was hoping that someone may be able to answer me here. I am mostly concerned if in 3x3 all the lanes are open and if yes are we supposed to always send 1 hero per lane? What kind of strategies(heroes) should be used in 3x3 (some general tips) things like that.
Thanks in advance

A friend of mine reached level 5 now and is verified, plus he got 5 tokens. Which is awesome, because playing AP all the time slowly let me want to vomit.
10 tokens cost 350 coins. If I remember correctly you get ca 6-12 coins per match. That means you have to play more than 30 matches of AP to be able to play a few rounds of good modes.
That can't actually be true, right? I mean, that's just terrible. Please tell me there's another way.
On a sidenote, I'm pretty sure I joined a public game last week where everybody could play every hero, regardless of their account type. Is there an option for this?

IIRC you don't lose your tokens if you choose a hero you either own or is free to play for the week, it doesn't matter which mode you play. I don't know what you considerer "good modes", but if you mean CM he should be able to play much longer than a few rounds.

The game still starts though? I was under the impression the game would just not start or people would keep leaving cuz they wouldn't play with potential name spoofers..
Guess I haven't really tried to play a game with people not spoofchecking so I wouldn't know. So who is that? Isn't Igotmyown a TL poster?
That guy is dedicated. Out of all heroes, rhasta?

That guy is dedicated. Out of all heroes, rhasta? for public games that is true, on private games the autostart function works the same way but its possible for hosts to start the game without spoof checking.
i dont know who it is. i just found it on the dotacash forums, and yes i think igotmyown is a TL poster.

Ok, so my weekly n00b topic. As you might remember from earlier topics, I've had a lot of trouble transferring an early game lead into late game dominance. Well, I'd been slowly climbing the ranks of solo MMR, up to almost 1600, just by supporting. Well, all good things must come to an end, and I just went on a 7ish game losing streak where I would be the highest level and have the highest kill count as a carry. Think, witch slayer with a level and kill lead on a solo mid pyro at 25 minutes. Yeah. So now that I'm full into terrid level, aka 1450, I've started playing more carryish heroes.
Well, last night i played a game as magebane. I got hugely lucky and was laning with deadwood vs a solo scout(LOL), as their KotF went jungle. I dominated the lane obviously, and got really farmed up nicely early on, scout couldn't do anything to me, and I got most of the available creep kills that I could get safely. Well, I guess we had a smurf on our team, who went zephyr, and he basically could 1 v 5 their entire team by level 15. I used those opportunities to farm like mad, and got most of my core items at a decent time(for me, lol). Well, despite me basically having free reign on a lane for minutes at a time, and getting several easy kills/assists, plus not dying until late-late game....i still only managed to have a couple level lead on my opponents, and even though my items obviously made me quite beastly, I wasn't anywhere close to the ridiculous carry that i know magebane can be. And despite me playing fairly well, and laning pretty well(I thought) I still was only 6/2/6 at the end of the game, despite the fact that my opponents were just being dominated by a beastly zephyr. At one point in the game, I was levels behind a vindicator and a terrible deadwood. Is basically the only option you have to level up normally is always be in team fights? I just feel like I was farming ALL game long, and got several free kills, and was playing vs a terrible, terrible, team, but if zephyr hadn't been there/ was replaced with a support lategame, I couldn't have carried that game at all.
My name on HoN is Sm3agolol if you want to look at my last game, I can't link the replay because I'm at work. Arrgghhh. I just can't seem to transfer any kind of item or level lead past the laning phase. I'll be in the lane looking great, and suddenly I look up 3 minutes later and everyone on my team is 2 levels higher, and multiple opponents are untouchable. With supports I have the opposite problem....i always end leading my team in levels as some terrible late-game hero like witch slayer.

You were never behind deadwood in levels. You were behind vindi and arachna for a bit, but that's understandable because they were solo while you were not, and you passed them in the end, which means you don't have to be in teamfights to outlevel. The only reason zephyr was so high was because they fed him a LOT of kills, and most of them were solo kills too.
There's generally two ways I like to play magebane: 1. Rush a runed cleaver and then you become a farming MACHINE. Since zephyr had the game under control you should have done this. With a runed cleaver, magebane can farm the entire jungle and have them all respawn for the next minute. Also, flash is probably the best escape skill in the game. However, since zephyr was there your jungle was probably occupied. Still, you could have farmed their jungle, since you can always flash away anyway (it's not like they had wards). The only potential problem was blood hunter. You could have taken him alone, but if the rest of the team comes you'd be kind of screwed. Just blink away when you see him, and in case he uses his silence before you can blink away, carry a homecoming stone and he's no problem. 2. Rush a helm of the black legion (like what you did) then gank gank as much as you can (not what you did). Then get a firebrand so they can't escape you and eventually a geometers.
I generally don't like to get both HotBL and runed cleaver, since by the time you have one, it's much better getting the more late game items.
Other general stuff: -In general don't finish steamboots first on magebane. Get a lifetube (usually do this on anyone that needs runed cleaver/helm of the black legion aka most melee tanks/carries), then finish the steamboots(or finish HotBL if you are getting it) It gives immense lane staying power. Also it allows you to do my next tip -Once you get lifetube in lane, harass more with magebane. Magebane has one of the most powerful attack modifiers in the early-mid game. You could have totally dominated scout even more if you auto attacked him whenever he came close (especially during his weaksauce flurry). -You don't always want to ONLY last hit/deny such that the lane doesn't move at all (especially mid game). Depending on the other lanes, and the relative safety of doing so. You can push the lane (just remember to keep getting all last hits), go in the jungle for even more farm (you could have gone in the enemy's jungle), then once the lane is back farm it again. -If you need a better idea of how to farm effectively watch a few games on testie's stream http://www.twitch.tv/angrytestie, the guy knows how to farm.

Instead of pointing out a problem that you're having, you should probably look for the underlying cause. I can only assume that you lack efficiency (Minimization of non-xp range time, farm planning + efficiency and maybe telling your lane partner to gank/stack/whatever elsewhere if you're doing well) - and thus drop behind the opposition. Acquiring said efficiency comes through constanly being conscious about areas where you can be efficient, being everything from tp'ing to lanes with huge creepwaves, leaving well with <100% hp/mana, using blinks so that you travel to your destination in as much of a straight line possible and courier management etc.
For me, studying skilled players has taught me a lot. I'm not talking about opening a Chu replay and enjoying in /sitback mode. You have to sit down and look at literally everything he does - overlook nothing, and consider the reasoning/logic behind it. If that means taking notes, or rewinding parts several times then so be it.
As for that specific game, let's just say I hope posting that summary was carthartic for you.
