The thing is, my friend, that it's not about entitlement. I absolutely agree with the point you bring up, that this game gives tons entertainment value out for so little cash invested, as it's one of the most cost-effective purchases there could be on the gaming market (imo, at least).
However, that doesn't matter here. If a company fails to communicate it's mishaps somehow (may it be clouding the issue at hand, or the honest truth) but is instead really slow to react, customers WILL get upset (meeting with a brick wall of silence is unpleasant, to say the least). And that's not because they're angry 12 year old trolls, it's because they feel that S2 is sh*tting on them by not saying anything (in time) when problems arise. Simply put, it's in the company's best interest to get ahead of this problem and stop it before it arises - not by completely preventing hiccups in the service (downright impossible one might say, I perfectly understand that) - but by proper customer relationships management.
I get it that they're understaffed for this issue. It's about time they fixed that then - for their own good

They should really take a cue from Blizzard and their handling of the WoW community.

Logging in, please wait... for 2 hours and counting since they said hon was back -____-

HoN was back for me the second they posted it. Too bad some of you can't login.

Finally went on a winning streak last night!
Log in 10min ago to find there was a rollback and it's all gone. Awesome.
(Reading the forums and seeing how S2 has handled this is actually laughable, they're slowly taking the place over Blizzard's handling of Arena in terms of complete incompetence for me)

It's ok! Bad administration doesn't matter! Hon has stats and reconnect! Okay, after 500 posts of LOL HON IS SO BAD we finally got your point. Maybe you can now try to post something else. Bad administration? It's good to see you know what the problem is, because S2 says it was caused by network outages etc. at one of their data centers. Maybe ~10 posts total are bashing hon. I've been posting since before hon was even out when this thread was started in 07. Learn to fucking read. It is bad administration. And rofl @ you still trusting what S2 says. As naib pointed out its retarded that they don't put out official messages until way later, and when talking to individual admins they give out conflicting answers. One, two, even three days acceptable...probably a week total outage for some players is not acceptable for a paying customer. HF with HoN you seem to love it a lot.
1. It's exaggeration. Do you know what that is? Take the point. 2. Before I posted I knew you'd post this. Go take your conspiracy shit elsewhere, or enlighten us with your reliable inside sources since you seem to know what is REALLY going on. 3. A week of outage is perfectly acceptable to any reasonable HoN player(not a lot, admittedly), because we paid a ONE-TIME fee of $30 dollars(sup, lunch) one year ago. So yah, I'll enjoy my high value game and defend the makers who continually pour out free content and keep the servers up, thank you very much.
In the meantime, enjoy being bitter or whatever, and continue bashing HoN. What you get out of it I have really not a clue at all.

So, I haven't played HoN in well, I bought the game played it a week then left it(I played beta though) so my PSR is around 1600 or something and my skills are rusty.
Anyone wanna play with me?

In the meantime, enjoy being bitter or whatever, and continue bashing HoN. What you get out of it I have really not a clue at all. What is there to be bitter about, HoN has less tournaments, less money, less competition. And when dota 2 comes out it will almost assuredly take a huge hit.
I'm just trying to get it through to you that people in charge of something you put a lot of time in actually matters. For some reason a lot [ not all ] hon players think unoriginal people with some of the worst public relations I've ever seen in a game [ maliken ] don't influence their game at all.
And by the way, even if you take this most recent situation out of the equation S2 was still DDOS'd by a buncha punks and down for what...3-4 days? Dotacash which is not even a full game but runs off one shitty website managed to be fixed faster than that after its most recent DDOS attack.
Also: http://i53.tinypic.com/2sakysh.png That is the server status of the company that supposedly handles ' huge ' clients ever since the servers have been down. The mega-important datacenter and the company who handles it doesn't even recognize that there is a problem and that most of their clients received enormous amounts of data loss and corruption. S2 doesn't even officially address this, doesn't give an eta because they can't and are at the mercy of a buncha people somehow just as incompetent as they are, and most importantly : don't even consider switching to another provider
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1054205 ^ These are facts and you cannot argue that S2 didn't fuck up in at least one way.

What kind of fucking joke is this rofl...Have you ever noticed how all of the major changes in HoN come almost directly from DotA and from Icefrog's changes? I bet its really hard to continually pour out free content when you are pretty much just copying and tweaking shit from someone else's work and anything original they come up with is garbage. According to you warcraft 3 should be even better since DotA actually cost you $0 and has been pouring out content even longer than HoN. Just admit the people who manage your game are retards, its simple.

Ack1027 the length of a DDOS attack is generally more reliant on the number of zombies the "hacker" has available than the measures the victim takes against them.

By the way, I agree that the S2 staff's abilities are not as high level as we might want them to be. But you've got some personal problems and your bias shows through in everything you write, making it far less believable. You should learn to control that when you legitimately want to make a point. However, it seems that you are for the most part ranting, which doesn't need an audience and does not seek to convince others of anything, so carry on.

There are many ways to defend a DDOS attack in this day and age. There are also many types of DDOS attacks, the ones in question here being on the easier end of the scale to prevent. But hey who cares I make wild claims and don't provide facts. S2's structure of HoN with separate server side info [ which enables reconnect, stats, less chance of maphack ] actually makes it easier to contain an attack.
I am biased, I never denied this. It's easy to be biased when people try to argue that HoN > Dota in competitiveness/gameplay/originality/management structure. If you haven't noticed ganfei this thread and other dota-related threads are years old and arguments have been rehashed many times, and originally they were presented rationally and in a controlled manner yet thousands of ze's later we realize that people who play dota/hon casually are mostly idiots.

Comparing DDoS prevention with DC not fair to HoN. Many factors including attack size go into it and quite frankly I don't think anybody here actually has enough knowledge about how S2 runs their systems to say anything true about it. Just because HoN has all those features doesn't make it any easier to contain an attack, these are just program features that can be handled easily by servers, DDoS attacks create traffic that are different in nature and on another order of magnitude.
|
How is comparing ddos prevention with dc not fair to hon. Did the dc ddos'ers have a smaller botnet? Did they just not try as hard? lol.. You can argue the HoN ddos'ers were worse cuz they had signatures on their attacks which led to their arrest.
They are both ddos attacks but one is on a website managed by like 5 people and one is against a gaming company who has made multiplayer games in the past.
If you are creating a game where one of your main selling points is stats and mmr points, its kinda short-sighted to think you aren't gonna get ddos'd sooner or later down the line. Again a management fuck up.
Ok even if their server structure doesn't make it easier [ which is hard to believe even with a basic understanding of network security ] that still makes them worse at handling it because DC's owner let people know hours after the attack happened.

Oh boy didn't see this one coming; that's completely irrelevant, although I'm sure whatever grudge you're holding sees things differently. To be honest I have no idea who you are other than the original poster in this thread so if you have a problem with me I don't with you.
