Turtling Balrog players are very difficult to beat as Zangief. Crouching roundhouse has ridiculous range and speed. C.FP will stuff anything. LP Dash Punch is safe on block. J.FP pressed early on will hit him if he Lariats at close range because his hitbox is extended. Use J.RH as your jump-in which will stuff Lariat every time, and sets you up for an easy c.LP c.LP c.LK Headbutt Ultra combo. You probably don't want to use your EX moves because Lariat will hit enough times to trade, or Gief will just EX Green Hand through them and you'll eat a lot of damage. Conserve your meter for Super which can be linked off the same combo as your Ultra. Never try to headbutt a cross-up, just jump away with j.RH.

What I do is find out if my opponent is a "shoryuken master" at the first chance I have, and if he's just mashing that SRK on wakeup I'll jump in too early so that I land infront of him, he'll mash out the SRK and you'll block, from there it's free damage. Probably doesn't work at a high level but w/e, serves it purpose for now.
And about my Zangief problem it's probably just the fact that I don't meet Giefs consistently, and they are all very very bad.

If they do it on reversal, it will armor break and you eat a knockdown. The best way to deal with SRKs is to either cross them up (they can get around this by inputting SRK in the opposite direction which a lot of low level players don't know to do) or bait them by charging a focus attack, then dashing backwards just before the SRK comes out and punishing them when they land.

-_____- The option to change your title and icon appears at the bottom of the screen inside the online play menu. The SF4 icon is your Player Icon, not your gamer pic. You need to unlock these items the same way you unlock titles, by achieving certain things in the game (like completing all trials with a character, clearing other challenges, or accomplishing some online achievements).

Yea, Windows did not bother to put much effort into the program. For starters they basically just copied the stupid xbox shit over and changed some buttons to work for keyboard.
The search is totally stupid too, I should be able to just set requirements for searching, hosting a game and save them so they load every time I log on. For example; I wanna be able to play 3 or 5 round matches with stability as main attribute in order to find more games faster, but instead I have to choose one or the other and it takes fuck all long going between the two as you mentioned. And why the fuck can't I chat real time in the game? Every other game in the world has this, seriously wtf? I've got some other gripes with the software as well. (such as the lengthy versus screen, the dumb announcer, etc)
unrelated, Ok so I played about 40+ of 5 round matches vs my friend yesterday at my house. He uses Blanka mainly. Motherfucker is totally imbalanced (probably because I just don't know somethings).
Here are the list of things I can not deal with even when I know they are coming: (I was using mainly Akuma, Sagat, or Dan)
Horizontal Balls: They whiff, I block, whatever. How the fuck do I punish the mother fucker after this? He bounces 6 feet away. I know I can LP SRK if I predict them (which is what I was mainly trying to do), but the trouble with this is it's pretty fucking hard to do consistently and only works when you are decent distance away because the startup is slow and you get nailed before it comes out a lot of times. And if you mis-predict, you eat a ball anyways.
Vertical Balls: They seem to cross up randomly, without any way to predict which way or where they will hit. High, Low, Back, Front. It's ridiculous, what should I be looking for to deal with this better? And same problem as above, but worse. Even if I do predict it, I cannot SRK because it will either trade hits or just hit me because the srk has crappy priority vs vert ball.
PS- The priority of balls is so fucking retarded, Pretty much anything gets beat or traded vs the balls. Oh yea and it Armor Breaks. What the fuck?
Wakeup: I cannot hit Blanka on wakeup ever, fireballs, triple fireballs, sweeps, throws, whatever. I dunno if his wakeup is delayed or some shit but every time it seems like I'll whiff and he can ALWAYS move/hit me first. What is the best thing to do vs his wakeup in both far and short range?
The horizontal jumping HK: This fucking move is equally ridiculous. It seems to have priorty vs every fucking move except MP (as akuma). And even then it's fucknig weird angle makes it hard for me to actually punish him for it, or I can't hit him because the HK seems to have faster startup and he 'moves' out of the way. Plus if I jump a little after he does, I get beat. This move also seems to cross up randomly like the vert balls.
Close lightning: When you are really close your startup frames of crouched kicks will rape you. I can teleport away but is that the best thing to do?
And last but not least, The mother fucking unblockable Ultra: How the fuck do you deal with this shit? If he is close, or not even that close at all it will fucking hit no matter what. I cannot teleport away, I can't SRK, I can't block, I can't do anything at all to defend or attack it. It just hits, and my friend has the timing down on it, so it always does the full damage and takes off a shit load. Even if I'm mid range-far, it's a charge super denjin style so it's fucking hard to dodge or punish because he is either too far away or the bounce back, he will almost ALWAYS be safe even in the off chance that he does get it blocked or jumped over.

At close range Blanka's Ultra hits low, but this first hit has about the same range as his Crouching Light Punch — not very far, then it hits high, then low again. This can be tricky to block for new players, but anyone who's had a bit of experience against Blanka will be able to block this with ease.
I'll work on that.
General Strat: What is the best thing to do? I think hadous are pretty decent strat in the first round before he gets EX ball ability (which lasts like no time). After that they blow and I'm just playing defense. Teleport seems to help but not much.
PS- in sf3 everyone had an overhead attack, What the hell do I do vs a block/ducking opponent. The F.MP from akuma is far too slow. Seems like all my friend did was block/duck --> Ball / jump / lightning. I should make a flow chart it was so damned predictable an unbeatable.
PPS- what the fuck is up with SRK forums, they've been down since yesterday evening.
Also, Akuma's Super and Ultra are worthless vs Blanka.
Windows lol, you mean CAPCOM? they did just take the xbox stuff cause its easy to port from Taito X2 to a console and even easier now to port from 360 to a PC platform. although I agree that the matchmaking/searching system could be better. i dont really care about realtime chat

Blanka's Ultra is also not invincible once he gets on the ground. After you block the high hit you have several options. EX Shoryu should hit him out of it if you're close. Maybe I should change character, but I'm afraid it's just the game not just some characters.

Yea, I feel your pain. Its not just online lag play either. Crossups are weird in sf4 compared to sf3

No, and balrogs options are limited but like, why do you need to use tap alot anyway? just do ur jabs and strongs and stuffing with pokes. mash jab son ur playin rog lmao. you dont have an overhead but just use his super good jumpins lol and yeah crossups are going to be harder to block in lag lol offline you would be fine imo

horizontal ball is safe except for certain ways that i dont know cause akuma. just deal with it. vertical ball is controlled by the player so you have to see where its going to hit. blocked vertical ball is more easy to punish. you are akuma in STREET FIGHTER 4 (read: not 3s) so you don't want to be around akuma when you knock him down anyway. a blocked slide is easily punishable except at certain far ranges. and yeah you gotta block the ultra right lol. for the j.hk why dont you just block or teleport :V if he wants to lightning alot if youre at a certain range you can hit it with low kicks and stuff (good to know) also with your downback opponent, you have to learn the typical akuma block strings and incorporate throws, like you ever wonder why akumas are like c.jab c.jab throw and shit? cause down back is strong, think like ur playin sf4 itll come eventually. also go online to watch videos and xcopy cause you on your own is very ehhhhhhhhhhhh

just mixup your options. dont be obvious with throws. do stuff like walk forward then back and then throw. or use block strings into ex upper or ex overhead (use these sparingly, it gets obv. if done repeatedly alot). TAP i really only use for fireballs and on wakeup if they are focusing on your wakeup(which is good cuz its invincible, and if they dash forward or back its guaranteed to hit)
being annoying with rog with rapid fire jab walk forward jab walk forward etc. to keep them guessing when u going to throw. sometimes doing retarded random stuff works with rog to. doing stuff like getting your TAP, overhead rush, or lowrush blocked and then random ex headbutting into ultra work once in awhile. trust me balrog is somewhat of a "predictable character" but hes still beef as fuck
edit: about the block lag if anything inputting during block strings is the most easiest in SF4. i was most surprised when i do a jumpin and get my j.HK/HP blocked and they can reversal shoryu when i try to jab as a blockstring. ive seen so many times simple strings u wouldnt think could be inturrupted get beat out by reversal shoryus, ex jesus kicks, teleports, SPD's etc.
and i dont get your crossover comment. seems like sf4 has more ambiguous/varying crossups IMO but i dont get your block when they hit thing
