Shin Juggalo-Ryu.. r u down with the clwonz???

ryu was like 18-20 in SF2 but I guess Alpha took place right before that and he looks quite young yet he is a lot older looking in SF4 and SF3(which is after SF4 chronologically).. but Sakura looks same age in both of them so who knows. Im gonna say like 25 in SF4 and near 30 in SF3

If gamefaqs is useful for one thing, it's...

Ryu birth date -- 1964 July 21

Canon dates of games
Street Fighter -- 1987
Street Fighter Alpha 2 -- late 1987 through early 1989 (SFA2 replaces SFA1)
Street Fighter Alpha 3 -- 1989 through early 1990
Street Fighter 2 -- 1993
Street Fighter 4 -- 1994
Street Fighter 3: Second Impact -- 1998 (SF3:2I replaces SF3:NG)
Street Fighter 3: Third Strike -- 1999

In old SF2 series they say ooooooor-you-ken. First syllable is "oar", and it is held for a long time.

you mean shore-you-ken

ok but that birth date would make ryu old as fuck, but according to the previous post hes still young, unless all these games are supposed to be the past.

unrelated - In survival mode it has a quota, say 4 rounds won. But it allows you to beat twice as many opponents usually, is there any benefit of beating 8 instead of the 4?

PS- I was arguing with my friend the other day about 2 things, 1 that ryu is in his late twenties (He thinks he's late 30s or 40s at least). 2 is that the original SF they say "ah-you-kan" instead of 'shoryuken' , same with tatsumaki. They say that shit right?

I probably dropped a few hundreds playing the original SF2 in the arcades when I was a kid. My childhood friends and I firmly believe that Ryu and Ken screams..

ALL-YOUUU-GETTT!!!

They changed that shit to Shoryuken when Japanese SF became mainstream starting with SF3.

They even mention the old school way of saying shoryuken in this 90's rap classic:

Read again; when the games "happened" in canon timeline are posted above. Those aren't release dates, which they might have looked like at first glance. That makes Ryu about 30 years old in SF2 and SF4, about 35 in SF3.

SF2: Hyper Fighting (CPS1 hardware, so same sounds as World Warrior and Championship Edition where Ryu and Ken have the same voice; different than in Super and Super Turbo):

Ok, if they really aren't saying the japanese words why the fuck would that japanese coders put some other sounds/words and what do they mean?

edt- actually i have these sound effects on my comp that I dl'd a while back and I think that in the game they just aren't heard very clearly (considering the advances in sound quality and programming). I'm actively listening to the sounds and trying to hear all-you-get, all-you-ken,shore-you-ken, and oar-you-ken. I hear shoryuken. it's just less emphasis on the syllables you would expect. Here let me upload them for you.

http://www.filesavr.com/streetfighter

The only one that still gets me is the tatsu, they are clearly saying some else, its like; "tats-lik-suh-broo-kek" or some shit.

unrelated - My sf4 live name (PC version) is SpoR Oner , anyone wanna play? add me

If you understand what it is they're actually saying, then you can pick up the subtleties in the sound files. The reason you can't hear the "sh" in shoryuken is because it sounds like static and is pretty low volume.

The important thing about the hurricane kick is you really have to understand the words as well as Japanese pronunciation. It's common for Japanese to cut the last vowel from a word or letter if it's not emphasized (or speak it quickly thereby masking it). So:

"Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku"

becomes

"Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku"

in the game file.

Hey, earlier my video card crashed my comp. I have my temp/fan checker on and it was going up to like 62°C~ most likely even higher, it was really hot to the touch. I dismantled it and cleaned the fuck out of the dust, and turned the speed up on some fans in my case and left the case door off. What can I turn down settings wise to prevent it from overheating again?

PS- I also have the comp hooked up to a 40" plasma via hdmi so that would put more strain right?

9th on the CP highscore crap on the PC version \o/. Watch my replay or add me or something. Also how does chun's double fierce jump-in work? Couldn't block the second punch for the life of me.

There's a significant delay between each hit, and you really have to be mindful of when it's coming out. It's very tricky to block both her j.FP and c.FP when they're used together, and I still get hit by them on occasion. The problem is that you have to block high for a good quarter-second, then immediately low about a tenth of a second later. The timing is very awkward. On the plus side, if you block that c.FP it's massive frame disadvantage for her, she'll eat an SPD if that's blocked.

the gpu card normally is about 60 degrees and theyre "hot" limit is 120-140 C its most likely some other error to it then just the temperature

How about Rufus? How the heck am I supposed to play against him? Just seems like he can pull out some infinite block-strings until one of his 50/50s hit? I dunno he's just frustrating to play against because once he's going at it I'm not getting out. Playing Balrog btw.

Also, maybe some interesting stats, from PC version:

+ Show Spoiler +

This is amount of games played against certain characters since release.

Sakura - 23
Akuma - 65
Ken - 116
El Fuerte - 17
Fei Long - 13
Dan - 13
Abel - 49
Cammy - 39
Ryu - 204
Vega - 26
Crimson Viper - 21
Sagat - 90
Chun-li - 24
Guile - 57
Rufus - 19
Dhalsim - 20
Rose - 7
M. Bison - 47
Blanka - 34
Balrog - 50
E. Honda - 24
Zangief - 30
Gen - 5

I wish there were alot more diversity. My skill in the matchups definately reflect these numbers for the most part.

Adeny, I think I actually remember playing against you. :p

Small world :x (i've been playing vega a lot lately)

EDIT to be useful:
for all characters against blanka, it's fairly important to learn to focus his anti-air crossup ball on reaction since he drops down in front of you immediately after, and you get a free crumple

Don't know about the small world part, because I'm clocking in at 1k matches already, and I've been playing at odd times so it's entirely possible.

lol i'm a Rufus player and Blanka is my hardest match up. There's a few threads in SRK that try to explain this matchup with strengths and weaknesses, but execution against Blanka is so challenging because of specific counters:

Branka Matchup Thread - SRK

I've improved, but it's hard to get out of the habit of diving into Blanka, which I'm promptly raped by electricity. The other thing is that don't try to lk->rk because most Blankas crouch all the time so they won't get juggled. lk->hp->tornado is better, but it's hard to get that combo all the time.

Another thing is to block Blanka ball by standing, which will cause Blanka to not bounce back as much as if you were crouching. But be careful of stand blocking because of his annoying slide.

Vertical ball should be punished by jumping rk juggle. Rainbow ball should be blocked and punished or Focus and free stagger. Electricity is countered crouching mk or mp, best is EX tornado. It's hard to get a full EX messiah on smart Blanka players.

Jesus christ, I'm fully convinced that Balrog vs. Gief is a 1-9 matchup. When Gief gets his shit going it's a rock/paper/scissors that you have to win something like 10 out of 13 times. Remove Gief please.

So is there no way to stuff wakeup SRKers like in 3s? s.mp/mk tie with the dp and both get hit, and it seems that the recovery/damage of the DP is better so its stupid to do. You can't really rely on focus/parry because HP or EX versions do multiple hits. Why did they take stuffing out?

but then if I ever enter an SF4 tournament, I won't be able to pick Gief and lariat my way to the prize money.
