SA = Sanwa, meaning the whole stick is fitted with all sanwa parts SE = Seimitsu, meaning the stick is fitted with all seimitsu parts In short the SA/SE just has better buttons

Also with SF4 I've been getting used to an 8-button layout, one for 3P and one for focus, which is REALLY handy when doing focus-cancles and whatnot. I'd hate to not have this feature. Guess I'm going to have to cash out for a TE. Sigh. Edit: Official ones that is. FYI, tournaments often forbid stick users from mapping buttons to things like 3P or focus. You're restricted to just the 6 attack buttons, and moves that require 2 or 3 buttons must be executed by pressing 2 or 3 buttons, just like in an arcade setup. Pad users, since it's nearly impossible for them to hit 2 or 3 buttons consistently, can almost always have buttons like 3P and 3K.

After reading a couple of pages in this thread it seems it's pretty necessary to purchase an arcade stick. Is this true? Does someone using an arcade stick have an advantage over someone who uses a standard controller pad? Thanks.

For me the main advantage is it's more fun and no stress on the thumb joints.

![]() There actually was a keyboard player at the last 3s tournament I went to. had found a way to hook a keyboard up to a ps2 to play o.o A stick is something you get because youve been playing fighters for a while and want to be able to play on arcade setups and any system without losing 95% of your execution. And theyre amazingly more comfortable to play on once you get used to em. I recently played through final fantasy 8 on stick purely because I find regular controllers uncomfortable now >.> Long story short: save your money. Buy it when youve invested the time to make it worthwhile.

Faster. Much faster. (That's not me or anything, but keyboards are generally faster. Double tapping is also a hell of a lot easier on keyboard.)

It's generally agreed that a stick is better than a pad and MUCH better than a keyboard for execution, HOWEVER it takes practice to learn to use a stick better than a pad or a keyboard. After all, you probably have experience already playing with pads and pressing keys, but not with using a joystick, so you need to overcome that gap first before a stick becomes superior.

How is it easier to double-tap a tiny key, surrounded by other tiny keys, than it is to double-tap a giant joystick button surrounded by open space? Not to mention joystick buttons are built to be tapped rapidly. Keyboard keys are not. Maybe if you've never used a stick before in your life, then it's easier. (Or perhaps you're using the Madcatz SE which is a jokestick.) Please do us a favour and stop commenting on the merits of keyboards vs joysticks. -_-
