The quality is crap but you can easily get over it with how damn good the matches are.

SF2 had some retarded situation with characters that was charge, especially charge vs charge. 1 guy just sits there waiting for the other person to move forward and lose his charge. Sadly that is high level play. It happens in SF4 as well. Another thing that 3S did right is made almost all the supers universally qcfx2 hence instance on demand. Lol moments in SF4 are where someone like guile moves forward, sees something like a big whiff, but all he gets is like a d.roundhouse since he can't do his super instantly at any moment in time. I like SF4 and the character balance is good, but to go from 3S to SF4 is like going backwards in some aspects. On February 24 2009 01:48 iD.NicKy wrote: which console should i buy to play SF4 ? EDIT : and why ? Does anyone know a fighting games community website ? Majority of the SF community have the 360. Also it is reported that online in SFHD isn't as good on the PSN compared to XBL. Plus 360 is easier to find games just due to more people. That's the tradeoff I guess between free and a paid service.

Maybe a few solid combos that are worth learning/mastering execution If you can uppercut, FADC, forward + roundhouse, ultra, your sagat will start beasting. Guess uppercut on wakeup with 50% meter & an ultra, if it hits, gogo huge combo, if its blocked, gogo tick throw after the FADC. An easier combo to net you some good damage though is just jumpin mk/hk, cr.mk / cr.mp / st.mk / st.mp, low tiger shot / tiger knee / uppercut. A relatively simple 3-4 hit combo that you can tinker with based on your situation. Tiger shot is safe on block but does the least damage, Tiger knee is relatively safe except for the HK version and does more than the shot, and uppercut is completely unsafe on block but does the most damage. Also: thinking we should start moving this over to the official fighter thread ![]()

You can see how they play out certain matchups and what basic combos are feasible. http://www.youtube.com/user/Min0ra

Learning how to keep fireballs on the screen (switching between kick and punch versions) and being able to heavy kick people out of the air is a good way to learn how to destroy people before needing to learn advanced combos.

So the match starts and I'm like, ima pwn this fool wit mah Rufus. He's using Ken, of course. First round: I divekick in, he uppercuts. He jumps in, I block his kick, he uppercuts. I get up, block a sweep, get hit by an uppercut. Several uppercuts later and I'm dead, lol. My friend (whose account I'm playing on) shouts at me: what the fuck are you doing Bill?! You lost?! ![]() I was also a bit ticked at his crappy $50 fight stick. ![]() Second round and third round I stop trying to attack him completely: I just block until he uppercuts, then punish. At one point I try to bait out his ultra by divekicking and landing before he gets up. His ultra starts while I'm still in my divekick and I'm like OH SHIT, but I land first (thank you start-up frames) and block it. The other guy must've been LIVID when that happened, haha. Sometimes he wouldn't uppercut, and despite my "block everything" strategy I would still try to throw him whenever he jumped in (and usually eat an uppercut as a result >_< ). But ultimately, his desire to SHORYUKEN shone through more than my desire to press buttons, and I won (but I was only a couple of uppercuts away from losing ![]() The second match, I decided to beat someone up with Zangief. My opponent was Ken, 'cause that's like the only character they can pick or something. This guy was smarter: he would actually back away from me and throw a fireball (just one), and randomly do Focus Attacks that usually hit me 'cause I'm dumb. ![]() ![]() By the way, about that Zangief guide someone posted earlier: I don't believe it works against players who are this low in BP. These Kens uppercut non-stop. The best thing for you to do is to block until they uppercut, then punish that. ![]()

The idea is that once you punish a wake-up shoryuken with block into 360 (preferably ex, not because of the extra spin but because it makes you look scarier) that they won't wake-up shoryuken for at least 2 or 3 wake-ups, but instead will block/attack normally which leaves them open for meaty SPD. "preferably ex, not because of the extra spin but because it makes you look scarier" LOL (Note that we're not just making fun of newbies here: everyone suffers "psychological damage" from certain attacks that end up making us play worse because we're too scared of getting hit by them again. ![]() You know what? I think I might start playing online more often. The reason: I'll end up running into guys who play like nothing I've ever seen before, and it'll be a test to see if I can adapt to their odd style in the 2-3 rounds before the match ends. ![]() Adapting to your opponent in 1 game is REALLY HARD. You basically have to tear down old habits and build new ones in the span of about 1 minute. By comparison, there are women who will marry men and never manage to change any of the guy's habits for as long as they I think this is one of the reasons why I enjoy fighters so much, actually. ![]()

EDIT: That's another thing that Sirlin brought up that I agree with. One of the big problems with SC4's online play that SF4 has too is the lack of a double-blind ranking system. SC4 suffered the same "you're a player that kicked my ass, I'm booting you from my room" and "you pick your character first, then I'll pick mine" issues that Sirlin complains about in SF4. All in all it's not a terrible thing but it does allow for some garbage like last-second character selection and being able to cherry-pick who you fight. Although I will admit, it is nice being able to boot players who have poor latency before you get locked into a match with them.
