damn I was at Gamestop today, my gief got owned, by a somewhat experienced dude using Ken. He waited till i picked and I thought gief will shit the pants on everyone (like everyone just picked ken /ryu). All he does is jump back hp in air, and spams fireball in range.
sighness... I dont have Xbox live so i lack human competition, and shouldve pick Sagat and roll everyone. I am still waiting for my bro to bring back a PS3 CE, so i can go on PSN with you guys.

Ya definitely scooter. I will keep on playinnnn and get own. No worries.
What is "Ken kara"? I dont know what it means and why you must have stick for it.

I've won my last 18 random ranking games straight. Sooooo many Akumas, but my Gief's trained to handle their shenanigans. I ran into a couple really good (<100BP) players and friended them, but a lot of the 1000-1500 players are jokes. Jump-in sweep, run away fireball all day. Jeez Akumas and occasional Ken/Ryu's, play more scary /rant
All I get are scrubby Ken/Ryu. Wake-up Shoryu's every time. Theres also the occasional turtle Akuma, who will stay out of range and just spam his 3-hit fireball and jump fireball all day. So far I've only played a good random battle against a Fei-long and RD Akuma.
Also, GG's to sung_moon, you owned me =)

W T F
I am on rose's 6th challenge trial or whatever and the first combo is just
Medium Punch Light Kick
... ?? pretty sure ive tried every possible timing, not sure wat to do

Don't spam the buttons, do the first 2 LPs decently fast, then slow down on the 3rd one into LK spiral, then super cancel that like normal :o.
I gave up on Rose, learning Akuma and Bison now.
Edit: Err read that wrong, I thought you meant 6th challenge trial as in the first trial in hard mode. The link you're on isn't that bad, just don't spam, and time the 2nd hit when the 1st hit ends its animatino.

edit: i see, i got it
what does (Begin with standing H.K) H.K mean? This is for Sagat's fake kick
the frustration =[

Here's Scooter's guide to beating <3000 BP Kens and Ryus and Akumas:
Step 1: Learn how to standing 360. It's really easy.
Step 2: Learn how to lariat a shoto jumping at you. It's really easy.
Step 3: Learn how to do a banishing flat. To make it easier, hitting down forward twice + P works too.
Step 4: Find said Shoto on a ranking match
Step 5: Lariat all fireballs until they get so frustrated they jump in at you
Step 6: Lariat that jumpin.
Step 7: Start walking into them while they're on the ground, they will dragon punch. Block it. If they don't, it means they can't wake up dragon punch and the rest of the match will be easier. Skip to step 9 in this case.
Step 8: When they come down, standing 360 Fierce SPD punish. They will never wake up shoryuken again that round. Guaranteed.
Step 9: Banishing Flat to get close while they're on the ground. 360 them while they're getting up, because they sure as hell won't Shoryuken or jump. Meaty 360 for the win. Use an ex one if you want, doesn't matter
Step 10: Repeat Step 9 until they start jumping on wakeup.
Step 11: Lariat them until they die.
I shit you not, you will get to 2000-2200 BP using this guide guaranteed. It works against every shoto that you've never played before which is pretty much every player online.

What is "Ken kara"? I dont know what it means and why you must have stick for it. It's a trick to add range onto your throw.
Ken has a really good kara grab. To kara a grab, you cancel a normal into grab so fast that the normal doesn't come out, but just the grab. With Ken, if you do toward + middle kick and immediately hit grab (it needs to be really fast, almost to the point you're hitting mk and lp + lk at the same time), it'll give his throw insane range. If you do crouching light kick punch punch at point blank range, they'll still be in distance of his kara throw.
Sorry if I'm bad at explaining it but it's much easier to show than to explain.

wat is a standing 360? a shoto? a lariat?

Scooter, what controller do you use?

No worries! El Fuerte's MP splash beats Lariat!

That shit is just stupid. I do not understand how to apply it to a real match.
To get past that, I had to like slide two different fingers over different sides of the roundhouse button to do it quick enough. Turbo controller that shit imo >.>
All it does is cancel his roundhouse. You can do it at the end of matches ez when the frames are slowed down though lol
360 is the term for zangeifs grab because you rotate your stick in a full 360 (well, 270 really, you go from forward around to up) to do it.
lariat is his move where he spins like a faggot and goes through projectiles. It had some invincibility to it as well for parts of the hitbox (anything upper body except his face) so it beats a ton of stuff clean
Learning fighters (especially if this is the first one you're getting serious with) can be rough, props to yall for sweatin through it :>

"Kara throw" comes from the term "kara cancel", where "kara" is probably some bastardization of a Japanese word. You can kara cancel normal moves into specials, supers, or throws in many fighting games by exploiting the way the games read inputs.
Let's say you're Ryu and you want to throw a fireball, quarter circle forward + punch, and let's say you're facing right. If you hit the punch when you're on down-forward, just before you get to right, the game will actually interpret that as crouching punch--then a split second later when you hit the right on the joystick, it'll go "oh wait he really meant qcf + punch", and it'll give you the fireball. So you get like 2 frames of animation of the crouching punch, then the game decides to change that into a fireball instead once you complete the special move motion.
To make the above scenario possible, the game just allows any normal move to be canceled into a special in the first couple frames of the animation (way before it hits for a slower move). Now, in this game and others, certain normal moves instantly change the position of the character by a little bit as soon as they start. Ken's forward + mk is such an example. When you kara cancel the forward + mk into a throw, you get the instant forward movement/warp from the forward + mk starting, and then he tries to throw. So it's like a small warp forward into a throw attempt, thus extending the range of the throw. That's Ken's kara throw.
edit: Hm, I think I read SF4 allows just 225 degree rotation for the so-called 360 motion, even less than the more common 270. Makes sense considering the other motion simplifications--e.g. DP, Akuma super/ultra.

I won with M.Bison, but I don't think I will be going to Round 2. I'll probably end up giving my tickets away. So you and me makes it two SF4 wins for Teamliquid

I use a custom stick with Seimitsu LS-32 Stick and PS-14 buttons. I can play with stock hori's, but Seimitsu parts feel real good with a lot of games (I play a shit ton of Ikaruga). The only fighting game I play on pad is Smash Bros, but honestly why would you ever use a stick for that. Tetris the Grand Master is pretty sick with stick too.

I'm still waiting on my parts to come in =( I'm about ready to rage on that square gate anytime now.

ok rule 1 about looking for quick ranked games
1. i swear if they have japanese language priority, u are facing a japanese thats really fucking good. 2. yea the online character ratio is messed up... i swear my matches have gone 50% ken 20% akuma 5% honda 15%sagat rest of the chars.... im afraid when i face a good el fuerte or viper for the 1st time 3. love my icon "get rich quick"
