On a side note: More fuel for my hatred of games that force you to be online and logged in just to play singleplayer. -.-'

I already checked my firewall, restarted Steam and my system, reinstalled Stormgate and it still doesn't work. Did somebody run into similar problems and if yes, how did you fix it? On a side note: More fuel for my hatred of games that force you to be online and logged in just to play singleplayer. -.-' I saw someone else had this issue, and the suggestion was to just keep trying to login a few more times and often it fixes itself. Otherwise I hope you get the issue resolved! I played the first 3 campaign missions 10 days or so ago, and finally just finished the last 3. It took a little time to get into it, but I did have fun, and genuinely wanted more at the end. The budget does feel lower overall than SC2 for example, but I was surprised at how much better it was than the first iteration.

I guess I'm not playing this game then...

Hey, when is your promised blogpost regarding the situation with GearUP Booster? Also when is promised Tim Morton's response on self-reviewing? https://imgur.com/a/wg2Og6X

JK I thought of something else. Look at Final Fantasy 14. When that game first came out it was received horribly. It was bound to die. Then what did the dev team do? They rebuilt it. Final Fantasy A Realm Reborn was like a completely different game. Here is the thing. People have preconceived notions about stormgate. When you look at 0.4 for example, is it an improvement? Yes. But it's still stormgate. And what do people already think about stormgate? "We don't like it." And so again, I really think if you want people to get a new opinion it has to feel like a new game. Not polish. Please stop this polish and iteration route. It's not a winning formula. Re-invent yourself. /Endrantforrealthistimeiswear

There are a lot of comments recently about what went wrong or what they don't like about stormgate BUT what is most important is the gameplay. if the gameplay is fun people will get over other issues they have with it because its fun to play. Focus on gameplay and understand what u have now is only fun to a handful of people. throw it all out and start new, start from scratch. Yes even the thing the most people like 'versus', needs a complete reset. Not ENOUGH people like it is the problem. If you want people to get a new opinion on stormgate, you have to make it feel like a new game. /endrant JK I thought of something else. Look at Final Fantasy 14. The gameplay isn't good enough, there's no gameplay loop. Even with coop which is meant to be a huge casual timesink, it's not keeping many players. And I doubt it's due to lack of "content" when the game have multiple modes and still failing.

In fairness they haven’t properly worked on those modes for a while. The 1v1 isn’t mind blowing, but in truth it’s pretty decent really. The campaign is a lot better. If they can boost the co-op up a few tiers, and their 3v3 mode is interesting when it drops, that’s a pretty good game right there. The problem they have, and one I myself predicted is most games have one shot at making that first impression, and they made a terrible call in launching into early access way, way too early. If you launch and people get it into their hands and it’s a ‘hey, it’s not a StarCraft killer, but it’s pretty good and I’m burned out with SC’ they’ll still potentially stick around. But people aren’t going to keep checking in on something to see if it’s hit ‘pretty decent’ a year or two down the line. You’ve also the problem that those curious aren’t all going to pop back at the same time. It’s something me and my RTS group here have an issue with, so we’re back doing a StarCraft event this year. Launch was underwhelming, but that was the time a good bunch of us gave it a shot. Now, even with progress it’ll be one guy tries it again, hey it’s alright but none of the rest of you are playing, someone else does the same etc etc

Right now, I'm not in the mood to play this game anymore. Lets be real here, having no clear vision for the core game is one of the main reasons why they are where they are. Just "trying" something as big as "hero gameplay" in versus for a single big patch is mental. And right now it's completely unfeasible. There is a very high chance they won't even make the finish line, which became apparent when they started their kickstarter and started selling shares etc. and got reafirmed with their latest financial report. If they had a running live service game with a good profit margin, I would agree with you. They could experiment with that, maybe add an additional 1v1 mode with heroes and see if people like it. But during the development they basically only had the option to either go with heroes or without and commit to that until release.

Aye I think they got burned trying to please everyone, trying to source what people wanted rather than having some clear vision themselves initially. Now I think they’re iterating and tweaking quite well actually. Not just the art, some pretty big eco overhauls and whatnot. I think they clearly want to make creeps work, maybe haven’t quite managed that 3v3 seems earmarked for some actual experimentation, and maybe they can innovate on the SC formula a bit for co-op down the line. I’ve been plenty critical myself, but it does seem they’re learning from past mistakes. If they do have an interesting twist on 3v3, I’d rather it get some fleshing out and polish than be thrown out the oven early. If they can nail it, I think it’s a twofold boost. They get their ‘something different’ win, but also I think it’s a big potential niche. Much as me and many buddies love some of the RTS classics, the team formats rarely feel like they work nearly as well as the 1v1
