I’m guessing barbarian is helped a lot by being able to use 3 legendarios (do their effects stack? I believe they do). So I’m not sure if we should be judging it from the first 20 or so levels

Can't speak much to that as I haven't tried it out yet but people in the videos seem to point out rather pitiful damage output on the Druid, hitting for at most half of what even Barbarian does and that's with fully stacked skill so can't even have good uptime on that.

That's with Act 1 bosses. If later acts have a mix of boss abilities, it's possible that the roles could be reversed and ranged could struggle more on some encounters. I would be wary of balancing the classes around one act. I feel like it's the particular act that's the problem more than the classes.

This is pretty interesting. World Tier 2 might be a honey trap if things stay largely the same between this Server Slam build version and the retail version in ~2/3 weeks, in regards to difficulty scaling. So you get more XP and more gold in Tier 2, but the chance to get better gear (legendaries) stays the same, right? Might be worth to just power through the game on Tier 1 for the ease of it, and then run dungeons/bosses for loot gear until you're ready for Tier 3, entirely skipping Tier 2. If the item rewards will be the same (no additional chance for rare/legendary drops in Tier 2), you're better off running more content on Tier 1, than the same content but harder on Tier 2 in the same time frame. Quantity over quality kind of deal. All I've seen from this server slam game version were nerfs across the board, increased cooldowns, and decreased buff effects on the player. Only positive changes were to werebear druid with that slam attack that grows to 12 stacks.

I don't know what use it has to breeze through the game just to do repetitive endgame dungeon grinding. Either I can finish this endgame super boss or I get bored and don't. This is a PvE game and not a try hard min max PvP game.

However, as this will be the initial release, I fully expect a rocky start to class and game balance. It's one thing to challenge yourself to a harder journey of your choosing, and its a whole other thing to start a journey forceably kneecapped.

Even in other RPGs, or other games, equipment is meant to be replaced regularly, sometimes every dungeon. You can play a single player game like Final Fantasy on very easy and switch to hard in the final dungeon if you really want to rush the game but beat it on hard setting. Why would people feel compelled to rush this game when they don't want to? But if people want to rush the story on an easier setting, let them. You're right I just feel like it would be good to make enjoyable playstyles also be rewarding (balancing risk/reward), and I think some games do a pretty good job at it including some past diablos to an extent (so I would expect or want improvement in this aspect). Also I would argue that when these playstyles are rewarding they are extra enjoyable by quite a lot, since you constantly get to make decisions that affect your overall run can trade the things you get etc. This can also affect how many players end up playing "not for the rush" and so you might be quite solo most of the time until you reach the later areas where the rush ends. I'd add we don't necessarily know yet how balanced or not early/mid games rewards are to endgame rewards, it could very well be that endgame gold/hour isn't too much higher and you can actually accumulate significant amounts of gold before getting there by using WT2 / slowing down your run / trading before endgame, and then we'd have to see how valuable gold is over the course of the game and at the endgame, for example. Maybe materials gained from salvaging good drops from early/midgame are significantly valuable vs endgame stuff. Maybe the best early/mid game drops can be used effectively in later parts of the game until you find rarer upgrades. Eventually as they talked about implementing leaderboards the risk/reward balance and playstyles balance would also affect how well you can do on leaderboards with various playstyles.

I don't really care about leaderboards. That always comes down to one playstyle which isn't fun at all. The RusBarb vs GerBarb race in D2 sounded like an insane, soul sucking grind.

Will probably wait a bit after official launch until I install it to try it out. Wait, why have you pre-purchased if you going to wait to play it anyways? You seemed very critical and concerned about the game. Just spend your money after the game has released?

Just spend your money after the game has released? I had cash on hand and didn't want to forget about it. Now it'll just gather dust in my library for a while (like so many other games on Steam etc.). Personally I don't check pre-purchases for perks or bonuses, I don't really see much difference between purchasing now or later regardless of when I will eventually get to play the game. Just like I don't immediately read every book I buy. Is it optimal? Hell no. Will I cry over it? Also no.
