Imho it's more fun if you actually have to pay a little bit attention to what is happening on your screen. Absolutely!! I mean, compared to D2, it would be literally like giving the D2 sorc blizzard, chain lightning, frozen orb, fireball etc. at level 4 _and_ applying automated free mana potions every 2 seconds... That's why I hope they don't overbuff weaker classes but also apply nerfs to classes that feel too easy at these stages. I think the game is more fun if difficulty is always present, no matter the level you're at or the gear level (and risk/reward appropriate), that also makes it ton more interesting to replay. And I would generally hope for endgame to be the highest difficulty, still challenging or hard even when maxed out. But even the most early game should have elements of difficulty and risk/reward even when you're seasoned at the game.

But fully expect Rogue, and Sorc to be nerfed even more. Especially the latter's burning effects. It just melts mobs and bosses, especially with Hydra. Rogue Shadow Step and Sliding Blades also nukes anything. Even Ashava.

The bigger problem was how anti-melee the story bosses are. Doing regular dungeons, it wasn't that much weaker than necromancers. And that was me giving both werewolf and werebear a try. Furthermore, necromancers have access to their book of the dead. The druid class quest is in a later act (act 2, I think). They cut the leech on werewolf in half and nerfed most of the ranged skills, but buffed some of the bear skills and summons in return. Considering that they nerfed and on occasion gutted passives across the board I'd say the class is pretty nerfed. According to my experience the dungeon and fortress bosses are rough too as melee. I agree that against groups melee is comparable and the main issue imo is that it's so much easier to hit bosses as ranged. In overall dps melee is a bit higher at least for druid and rogue, but nowhere near high enough to compensate that ranged can easily trade one boss hit for two of their own and fully dps through longer animations while as melee you pretty much trade one to one and have to stand back and watch while the boss does longer attacks.

Not sure how open ended and satisfying the main storyline is going to be though. https://www.reddit.com/r/Asmongold/comments/13ge1by/ah_yes_the_b_and_the_s/ On May 14 2023 02:37 Archeon wrote: Not much substantial criticism unless you are hyped for character creation in top-down ARPGs. Yeah I have more options in most 3d RPGs, but there are few games I care less about character customization. I also don't mind at all that they decided to give more realistic looking character options rather than the average Korean MMO K-Pop-model. Personally I don't care much but I've heard my friends complaining about how restrictive the character creator was. Sure, I can have female druid, but why can't I have a slim female druid? Or a fat sorcerer? And I guess the criticism in the video was how this very limited character customization is being touted as "near endless options".

Not sure how the endless options was mentioned but if saying that customizing stats and builds are a part of it then so far I'd argue it looks like it can match a "near endless options" statement, plus I suppose if you think of gear choice on top of it even aesthetically.. I'm ok with a few dozen choices accross several items on character creation sorta like wow vanilla. One little worry right now for me is the ashes on current pass, while they have a lvl requirement, is it possible in any way to reach that level without having reached that tier on the pass? Then one could find ways to do w/e else than advance pass while getting that level requirement and then buy tier skips to earn power by paying and that's kind of like putting a foot in the door of P2W since that's already one small P2W right there. So I hope that whatever you do, if you get the level requirement for a ash spot on the pass, there is no way at all to get to that level without having also mechanically earned this much pass progression so that there is indeed 0 P2W right there now and in future [alternatively always unlock the ash spots when the level requirement is reached no matter the pass progression, but why then even place it on the pass?]. Maybe for me it means I'll have to wait until after season 1 starts to decide if I buy and play the game. Other than that I rather like the ash idea how it affects characters account wide and even giving you choice how you spend it and what bonus you get.

And I guess the criticism in the video was how this very limited character customization is being touted as "near endless options". Don't get me wrong, it's not great, but again it's a feature that I don't miss to begin with and imo doesn't really make much sense in the game. Especially since Blizz has always been a company that's fairly good at visual character design, unlike f.e. LE where the characters look kinda bland (and where it still only bugs me when I open the game and get the 3d-view). Mind you I like good character creators, I have spent hours creating characters in other games, but in ARPGs you just don't really see jack of your char. After playing a bit around with it I thought it had enough options to create a character that had the feeling I wanted from the class in the open beta and for the weekend I just chose a default because I didn't really end up looking at my char at all anyways. On a side note most games don't have a lot of different body types, it's usually mods that introduce more options. Among other reasons so armors fit since you need to customize every armor mesh for each body type you introduce. On the marketing part: There's a reason I'm not watching developer interviews before releases anymore, their whole job is to bring up expectations to an unrealistic level so as many people buy their game as possible. And then everyone is disappointed afterwards. Big publishers will lie to your face repetitively and in the end the only somewhat trustworthy reviews will come from players. I get why you're worried for monetization, I am too, but I know f.e. people who just wait with buying the game for half a year to see where it goes and imo there's no point really discussing this until Blizz shows their hand.

I have D4 pre-purchased but I didn't participate in any of the betas and won't be doing the early access either. Will probably wait a bit after official launch until I install it to try it out.

I'm going to dive in right from the start. I had decent enough luck with D3 on that end. The servers weren't too bad for me. There is also some charm in the unbalanced clusterfuck that D3 and D2 were at release. They were still fun and it was just a different experience compared to the more polished games they later became. I even played D2 closed bnet on dial up for a semester in college.
