Anyway minor qualm. Im just nitpicky because Zelda has always been my favorite franchiae. Finished the goron lizard dungeon and it and it's boss were also not particularly impressive. Overworld is still awesome though.

I also got shovel Knight as it came highly recommended. Where are the other modern games though? Seems like zelda and MK8 are the only premium games so far? The console is a few months old right? Shouldn't we be seeing some new titles instead of mostly ports? Not complaining but I want me some kirby, starfox, donkey kong etc..

To parrot Unleashing, Arms and Splatoon are solid games, I just don't know enough about your gaming tastes. I also really like Puyo Puyo Tetris from what I've played of the demo. Snipperclips is super fun iif you have a buddy to play with. Kirby is a ways off, a Starfox game came out relatively recently on the WiiU.
Nintendo is pacing their releases so all their big games get their chance in the limelight. There's a big game coming out every month for the rest of the year. We're going to see WiiU ports for a while, which is fine because they're great games not many people got to play.

yeah I'm going to be the third one to recommend splatoon but it kinda depends on what kind of games you like.
I never liked mario cart, ever. So I obviously didn't end up buying that but splatoon was hyped as fuck and it is glorious. Zelda is the only thing that I'd feel comfortable recommending without any other input from you on what you like though.
On Arms... not getting that myself. Haven't heard anything good about that tbh

can anyone explain why zelda is so hyped? I watched a friend play it and it looked super boring, the final boss was also the most anti climatic easiest thing ever.

Because it's just an overall great and fun experience
Exploration is fun which compliments the huge overworld
Combat is entertaining and fairly well designed
The runes make for a lot of fun and rewards creative solutions
The world/NPCs are fun and have neat quests to complete
Lack of handholding means that you can go anywhere you want, there's no right or wrong way to go about exploring
Insane freedom for the player, very few restrictions
It just all meshes together to an insanely fun experience, one of the best games i've ever played and the best openworld game i've ever played for sure
YMMV if you hate openworld games or don't care for the zelda setting

don't think just getting into the final boss fight would be entertaining to watch for someone who doesn't know it. But I had a couple people come over to try a completly new game because they wanted to see it before investing that much money into a zelda-machine. And they all loved it.
That being said I have 1 friend who bought it himself on release day and actually didn't like it, but everyone else I talked to is pretty much in love with the game.
Hard to explain though Unleashing does a good job. It's just really fun to walk around and explore the world.
I'll expand on the no-go's a bit: If you like Zelda because of, ond only because of the Dungeons or having "legenday" equipment it wouldn't be something for you. There aren't a lot of Dungeons in botw, instead you have "mini-dungeons" called shrines but they're nothing like what you'd expect if you just want another Zelda game. Yes there are 4 proper dungeons but that's less than what you're used to.
And what I mean with "legendary" weapons is that if you like getting your trusty sword and keeping that same thing through the entire game you'll have a rough time as well. It's a lot more like some survival game where you have to scavenge for food (because no hearts) and weapons (because yours will break). So instead of running around with one sword you'll find yourself having to rely on swords, axes and spears you get from your enemies. Which makes your weapons a lot less epic because it's just some random ass weapon. Or at least that's why some people might not like it I guess.
Also, all hail the mighty boulder. Wouldn't have made it past the great plateau on hard mode without abusing it.
That being said, it's a very different game from previous Zelda games. So in general if you want another Zelda game that feels like the previous ones you'll be disappointed imo because you're not going to play it for boss battles or dungeons

It's not like the boss fights in any Zelda game have ever been particularly difficult. The series has always been about the exploration, BotW is just less focused on the microcosm of the dungeon.

and then he just literally just climbs up a few walls and hes at the final boss in 5 minutes (??)
Just seemed really lackluster but I guess this game was more for the people that liked to waste hours doing nothing in GTA. I just did the missions really.

It's about promoting player agency. You can do whatever you want. If you want to go kill Ganon now, you can. It's pretty tough, but you can. Or you can go explore in any direction that looks interesting.

yea thats probably why it looked so boring. I also despise minecraft/terraria/etc games of that nature

It's nothing like those games though, it's not a sandbox game, it's just an openworld game where there are no walls, there are no blockades, you can any which place you want and clear the main quests or side quests in any order you really want, you can even go and kill the final boss right away because again, there's nothing stopping you from doing so except for the fact that you'll be missing out on gear and the things you gain from beating the dungeons
But it's not a sandbox game, there's a goal and there's a main quest for you to follow, you're just free to follow it in any way you want

if I had to compare it to another game it's probably more like a nintendo-themed Skyrim?

TBH I'd argue that it's just properly bringing the spirit of the 2D Zelda games into the 3D space. The other 3D Zelda games have always been noticeably more railroaded than their 2D predecessors.
