Although not quite as addictive as Harvestella, I'm enjoying The DioField Chronicle a decent amount. It's like Fire Emblem, except real-time strategy instead of turn-based, although the plot is lukewarm and the battles don't seem too difficult. Also, so far I'm only able to use 4 allies in battle at a time (even though I have 6 allies total - 2 are "attached" to the allies on the field, as opposed to all 6 being available to move around separately); I'm assuming that this is a design/difficulty choice, since micromanaging larger armies in real time is much harder to do with console controllers as opposed to mouse and keyboard. I think there's a free demo to check out, if you want.

That Harvestella-Trailer looks a lot like Stardew Valley. So if you have more of that itch, maybe take a look there.

Thanks!

Today, both Tunic and The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero came out, and I'm super excited to play these two, too

I have such a backlog I won't get to Trails from Zero until next year haha. The Legend of Heroes is one of a few long-running series I'm collecting on Steam. Too bad they botched some of that goodwill by making a mess of the PS4 version.

I tried Stardew Valley a long time ago and it didn't grip me. Might check Harvestella out a long time from now if it ever goes on a big sale.

I really like the Trails from Zero battles and combat mechanics, but my god there is wayyy too much dialogue during the first hour of the game (that's all I've played so far). Even on fastest gameplay settings (thankfully, this exists as an option - to fast forward or move at x2 or faster speed), the amount of talking felt like it was detracting from my experience.

I play those games like a visual novel/RPG hybrid. The amount of dialogue can be a bit too much at times though. Then again, I'm the sort of player who talks to almost all the NPCs twice and exhausting all the dialogue in the series. I don't really do that with other games or series other then The Legend of Heroes. So far I've played Sky 1-3 and Cold Steel 1-4. They really need to localize faster. How many games have you played?

Just two games: Trails from Zero and Trails of Cold Steel 3. I'll probably rank the former in the A- range, which is where I ranked the latter. I like talking to NPCs and engaging in voluntary dialogue.

Fortunately, the modding group they hired for the PC/Switch ports added QoL stuff like dialogue logs. You can fast forward and go back to view dialogue you accidentally skipped over. The series is famous (infamous?) for being a really slow burn. The games that began arcs (Sky 1, Zero, Cold Steel 1, Cold Steel 3) all started really slowly. For me, it got better the more games in the series I played. While some tropes got overused, I really enjoyed the world building and how everything is interconnected.

Jack Black was great as Bowser.... then Mario opened his mouth.

I thought Black's voice was great too! Keep in mind it's a lot easier to be the voice of a character who doesn't really have decades of a voice to be compared to, so Pratt (or anyone else) is going to be compared with the incomparable Martinet for Mario's voice. I'm willing to give Pratt a shot.

Also, Seth Rogen is supposedly Donkey Kong? I'm curious about that one.

Yeah Jack Black is giving it his all, he is having fun with it. Pratt sounds like he is just reading off the script as others are starting to point out.

I just want to know who is voicing Luigi.

Finished my first run of Triangle Strategy, going to do another run for the golden ending. I enjoyed the game but it does have some pacing issues. Some of the criticisms were that the game was too heavy on story and light on battles. I found that this was mostly true for early game. There definitely was way too much exposition and it took a while for the game to get going. The battles were also fairly short, as is normal for introductory battles.

However, the opposite was true towards the end. Battles, even mental mock battles, can easily get to 30-60 mins and there weren't many story segments anymore. The last few chapters felt like a slog of back to back long battles. Doesn't help that the game is stingy on upgrade/promotion materials, so I spent too much time deciding what to do with my limited resources.

Still, the game is good. And I hope that SRPGs start making a come back. I don't expect and think it's better not to have AAA games. But it's nice if some of the bigger studios would release moderately budgeted SRPGs. I don't want to be too dependent on Fire Emblem to get my fix of this genre.

I found The DioField Chronicle to have a much better balance of exposition/story and combat/battle, although the game isn't particularly difficult (and it's real-time, not turn-based, although you can basically pause time to take as long as you want to make decisions).

Newest Switch game for me: NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition. This game is absolutely nuts, in the best possible ways. So much chaos, and so many attack perspectives / combat styles that you just get thrown into and figure out how to deal with (third-person hack-and-slash and run-and-gun, side-scrolling shooter mode, arcade-style space invaders and asteroids and other shoot 'em ups, etc.). Solid graphics and the story seems interesting. Only played for an hour so far, but I'll definitely be playing more.

Started on New Super Lucky’s tale. This is a pretty clever game. I hope they can manage a sequel because this game has a ton of potential.
