And I do remember enjoying it more than Fire Emblem and FFT at the time and roughly on par with SMT: Devil Survivor. That's very encouraging to hear! I'll probably be done with Harvestella in a week or so, so I'll probably start TOR around then

I'm torn on whether to get one or not. At time of writing metacritic scores are at 77, which is lower than every mainline game besides Emerald and BDSP

Here's one such example: Personally, with my current backlog of games, I'll probably be waiting until around Christmas to see if the performance issues are somehow improved. If they're not, I'll probably pass on Pokemon S/V.

It could just be bad programming. But the system is old enough that even a company like Nintendo that doesn't push the envelope too much may be getting more ambitious than what the system can handle.

Think about modern animated movies, Lego Movie is a perfect example but there are countless others (for some reason the Emoji movie is sticking in my head but like, I haven't even watched it properly because lol why would you). The hero is good-hearted but bumbling, and this bumbling nature causes him to be the butt of many jokes. The female lead is strong and self-assured and will very visibly think the protagonist is an idiot but soften on him by the end. Also the story will still revolve around the protagonist doing something she can't and she'll be lucky to be given 50% of the agency he gets, despite being characterised as more capable than him. This is a very played-out, faux-feminist pattern, and I don't know if the movie will actually fall completely into this rut (or it might still execute it well, I mean Lego Movie is not a bad movie). I would say however that a second point of evidence is the jokes shown in the trailer, the style of comedy is also very typical to modern American animated movies. Kind of disappointed that the Japanese IP about Italian plumbers looks to have been given this very boardroom, focus group American treatment. I hope it's more that they think that's what'll sell and hence what is highlighted in the trailer.

That's a fair point, though my feeling is that shounen are less consistent about making the protagonist bumbling, and the female lead strong. I think there's something to be said for going for the full "shounen fantasy" instead of this awkward middle ground I called "faux-feminist". That's very much just my feeling though, I'm not into shounen either lol so I can't really speak to modern trends there.

Shounen/anime seems more consistent about making a bumbling, dumb protagonist though. Either that, or having an amnesiac protagonist. I see you, Fixed that for you It's a terribly cliché trope.
