Biggest problem with civ v imo in terms of difficulty was that the leap between immortal and deity was too big.

As a single player guy I'm glad I held off on buying after watching that stream.
AI just seems terrible. Will wait to see how it is when people get to play the high difficulties.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

Thought it was hilarious that while they were touting their work on the AI, Russia builds it's 2nd city half way across the map.

Is the AI even worse than Civ V? Because that AI was dumb as a bag of rocks.Might wait for some patching or AI mods before buying.

Other that simple things like moving and shooting on the same turn, i don't think there are many improvements. But yeah, civ V AI was even worse. It really cheated its way.

The biggest problem with the AIs from Civ 5 (and apparently also Civ 6) is that the AIs don't know how win. They are terrible at committing to attaining specific victory conditions. This just seems like a colossal failure of AI programming to me.

It'd be interesting if there was a setting that offered better AI in exchange for minimum x seconds/minutes wait between turns. They probably prioritize speed on minimum spec over anything else. Maybe in a few sequels we'll have server-side AI.

I really want to use a VPN to activate the game early, but I'm scared for my account. Has anyone from Eastern Europe tried to use a VPN before?

I gotta be honest I was let down pretty hard by Civ 5 and have no plans on getting this until years after the release. Barring some miracle where they change years of policy and deliver a very full, very complete game at release.

It seem like the reason that the AI did not upgrade units during yesterday's battle royale was simply because it lacked resources to do so

1) Pretty much every civilization seemed to suffer from it
2) Toronto (I think it was) had archers up to the modern era
3) There were knights during the atomic era
4) There was a catapult defending a Russian city during the 2nd war in turn 400something
5) Having no unit upgrade from the start of the game until infantry in the modern era (because of lacking iron) is a terrible design decision
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

I did it from the US with Warhammer: Total War. Didn't have any problems. It's technically a breach of the ToS to do it, but I don't think that Steam really cares. They're more interested in preventing people from buying games in foreign currencies to get cheaper prices.

Steam doesn't care about people using VPNs to activate games early. As long as you aren't doing it to buy games from cheaper regions or something, you're okay. Half the world used a VPN to activate their Fallout 4 in advance, for example. :p

I'm sure that the game will get there eventually. Civ 5 had a rough start, but by the time BNW came out, it had evolved into a really solid game. Frankly, I'm surprised that the devs didn't keep more of BNW's features in Civ 6.

They kept pretty much everything except the social policy things? Civ 6 has religion, tourism (and great works), trade routes, ideologies, and spies. What features are missing (global happiness? everybody hates global happiness, and for good reason)?

Civ 5 has many of those features in name, but a lot of them have been reworked for Civ 6. A good example of this are the unit trees. I felt like Civ 5 was in a really good spot unit tier-wise. I'm not sure why Civ 6 reworked so much of it (and perhaps not for the better as evidenced by the AI failing to upgrade its units).

But the unit trees are mostly the same too. What I think is weird is that archery is a dead-end tech, but other than that they have mostly the same upgrade paths: infantry, archery, cavalry, anti-cavalry and artillery. I don't think the upgrade path is what went wrong. Rather it seems to be the fact that there is less iron available or something, making civs stick with warriors throughout the game. And maybe requiring niter for muskets?

Is it just that there aren't units with no resource requirements?

watched german stream release version, AI on lvl 7 on the first 10 turns allready lost a settler and then retreated from an undefended human city with superior forces.

So AI on launch will be very terrible.
