AI just seems terrible. Will wait to see how it is when people get to play the high difficulties.

Because that AI was dumb as a bag of rocks.Might wait for some patching or AI mods before buying.

Other that simple things like moving and shooting on the same turn, i don't think there are many improvements. But yeah, civ V AI was even worse. It really cheated its way.

It seem like the reason that the AI did not upgrade units during yesterday's battle royale was simply because it lacked resources to do so

I did it from the US with Warhammer: Total War. Didn't have any problems. It's technically a breach of the ToS to do it, but I don't think that Steam really cares. They're more interested in preventing people from buying games in foreign currencies to get cheaper prices.

Steam doesn't care about people using VPNs to activate games early. As long as you aren't doing it to buy games from cheaper regions or something, you're okay. Half the world used a VPN to activate their Fallout 4 in advance, for example. :p

Civ 6 has religion, tourism (and great works), trade routes, ideologies, and spies. What features are missing (global happiness? everybody hates global happiness, and for good reason)?

A good example of this are the unit trees. I felt like Civ 5 was in a really good spot unit tier-wise. I'm not sure why Civ 6 reworked so much of it (and perhaps not for the better as evidenced by the AI failing to upgrade its units).

But the unit trees are mostly the same too. What I think is weird is that archery is a dead-end tech, but other than that they have mostly the same upgrade paths: infantry, archery, cavalry, anti-cavalry and artillery. I don't think the upgrade path is what went wrong. Rather it seems to be the fact that there is less iron available or something, making civs stick with warriors throughout the game. And maybe requiring niter for muskets?
