the gym at my work was a red level 10 for the longest time. since the update, it goes back and forth between all the teams. yellow made an attempt this morning to prestige it up. i was watching them prestige it to about 14000 (they were just prestiging, not putting in any pokemon). after letting them feel good about themselves for awhile, i took it down in less than 10 minutes. bet that made them feel great, lol.

to be fair, they did immediately kill my pokemon i put in the gym (not sure why i bothered), so they got some level of revenge.

just checked, and they are prestiging it up again. bet thats hard because they put a CP 2000 snorlax and CP 2400 lapras in it. going to be fun to go out and destroy it again. at least they will get their prestige medal.

Its silly for level 10 to even be a part of the game if the time investment to undo it is a fraction of what it takes to get it. I can take down a level 5 gym by myself faster than it takes me to prestige one gym level. It's quite dumb.

Maybe if you could train with the same time at the same time like you would attacking? It used to be you'd group up with some buddies to knock down that level 10 that's been standing too long. There's no incentive to prestige together other than you're together.

Good lord, a butt beam Snorlax. The horror.

I often refer to moves by their second word in my head. I mentally giggle every time.

My other Snorlax is buttquake.

level 10 gyms are still pretty common around my area at least. sunday night i went to the park and there was a guy diligently prestiging up a gym (not for himself, for others). once the hype dies down, we are going to be back to level 10 gyms everywhere. the game got a boost, but it wont last.

haha, the instinct gym prestiged it up again, so i had to destroy their effort once again. as an added bonus, i left them a gift to help with the future prestige. have fun guys.

edit: damnit. my team took it out and ruined all my fun. although, amusingly, they put in a cp 68 lickitung that is also mocking team instinct.

I have a powered up lickitung precisely for that reason

Articuno vs Lapras
On offense, Articuno does more damage considering you'd be running the same moveset and Articuno has 12 more attack. Articuno is less tanky, with an offensive EHP of 43,560, compared to Lapras' 49,400.

On defense, Articuno probably ends up doing less damage because of no access to Ice Ball. Gym mechanics compound it's comparative frailty, giving it 87,120 EHP compared to Lapras' 98,800. Then you have to take into account that Articuno's typing is easer to abuse than Larpas'.

So Articuno is better offensively against anything it won't die to, due to being less durable, and straight up worse defensively.

Moltres vs Arcanine
Damage wise, they're similar. Moltres has a 12 point higher attack and has the same charge moves, but the comparison of Ember to Arcanine's signature Fire Fang means the current fire king picks up some of that damage difference, if not completely closing and surpassing the bird. Moltres has a 14 point higher defense and the same HP, making it ever so slightly more tanky than Arcanine.

In the end, Moltres is comparable to Arcanine, though the math would decide to what degree due to quick move differences.

tl;dr - They're underwhelming.

Cool, there's also Zapdos, I assume he'll easily be the best electric pokemon and perhaps a counter to lapras.
In other news I evolved my first charizard today for pokedex entry, he happened to get wing attack/fire blast (1400 cp/89 IV), is he any good for pristiging? There's no way I'm spending any dust to max him out

Given the current pool of electric types sucks that's an assured thing IMO.

Charizard is pretty good. Due to Fire and Flying having a lot of overlapping type advantages and the lack of non water/ice pokemon in gen 1, it only takes a back seat to Arcanine of the available Fire pokes.

Zapdos vs Jolteon/Electabuzz
Zapdos, hands down, trounces both of the "best" electric pokemon currently in the game stat wise. Its 232 Attack is 40 points higher than Jolteon and 34 higher than Electabuzz. At 194 Defense and 180 Stamina outshine Jolteon's 174/130 and Buzz's 160/130.

Given the stat advantage and the same movepool, Zapdos is strictly better than Jolteon outside of its typing.

Offensively Zapdos and Buzz have the same movepool, making the bird hands down better outside of typing, which doesn't tend to matter when you're offensive anyway since you dictate the matchups. Defensively, Buzz brings a weird set in Low Kick/Thunderpunch, but isn't enough to outshine the stat differences.

The problem with Zapdos against Lapras is that it's weak to Ice due to it's Flying type. Effectively, you're trading Zapdos' SE damage against Lapras' Water for taking SE from it's Ice - which will elevate it over Lapras' soft counter of Arcanine in the hands of a competent dodger.

Edit: Now sitting on six 10ks, getting close!

It's almost like the main games. Zapdos is the most useful of the legendary birds while Articuno has always been one of the worst legendaries in the series. Moltres is in the middle of those two but still underwhelming for a legendary.

It doesn't help that the way they make stats in go heavily favors pokemon with health base stats. In the main series there was a constant(10+level) added to HP but go doesn't have one. That's why there's an even bigger gap between Dugtrio's HP and Snorlax's compared to the main series.

It's a shame that Gym Defender isn't like +5/level bonus instead of doubling HP. It would make a lot more pokemon good at defending without having to mess with stats as much.

Couple things I learned today when going to my road test:

1. When over the speed limit, the game effectively shuts you out of it. No stops, no spawns, just GPS.

2. After a brief moment of trying to pump up a nearby gym, I concur that the prestige nerf was a tad too much.

3. Turns out the locale had some Slowpokes and Magikarps. Yay me!

Yup, 6 in gen2, 10 in gen3, 14 in gen4, 13 in gen5, and 6 in gen6 if you count mythics and pokemon that hatch from their eggs. Not sure how many are in gen7(which comes out tomorrow) since I've been trying to limit the spoilage.

I think this email thing is nonsense.

I have a Lapras that has been in gym since early August. It got returned to me defeated last night. Gotta be one of the most badass gym defenders on the planet. Dude was there for 3 months.
