The Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC) makes its debut in Montreal, Canada as sixteen male and eight female teams fly in to compete in a true Global Offensive. The Société des Arts Technologiques will host the tournament from the 11th - 12h July, with a total of $75,000 up for grabs in the men's tournament and $15,000 for the women.
Teams
All sixteen teams were initially divided into four skill groups (Top, High, Medium and Challenger) based on their recent tournament results and and ESWC national qualifiers.
Each group was then randomly composed with teams from each of the seed groups. If a group contains two teams of the same nationality then another team was drawn.
Group A: Flipsid3 Tactics, Cloud9, Keyd Stars, Boreal Esports
Group B: Ninjas in Pyjamas, Team Liquid, LDLC.com White, QeeYou
Group C: Natus Vincere, Titan, Luminosity Gaming, SK Gaming
Group D: Team EnVyUs, Counter Logic Gaming, Renegades, Bravado Gaming
Casters
Anders Blume Auguste "Semmler" Massonat Robin "Fifflaren" Johansson Matthew "Sadokist" Trivett
Format
The Group Stage will be a Best of One round robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the playoff bracket. All bracket games will be Best of Three single elimination playoffs.
I watched a Japanese team go against a Chinese team for some sort of qualifer (Cologne?) recently... Hardly impressive, but I'm still hoping for Qeeyou to make it out of groups and any sort of decent showing.
Group C group of death? Titan doesn't look strong lately but Na'Vi does. SK looked pretty good at Gfinity, and LG isn't shabby either. Is Devilwalk not playing for LG?

Nope Flamie and Seized will play, they got their Visas now. Problem is they will be jetlagged as fuck and they arrive 2 1/2 hours before their first game. And that's only the case if they have no delay

Yeah it actually seems worse than just practicing with the replacements. The back and forth of the situation will be a nightmare!

best chance for SK to come out first in the groups. (and my bets are liking it )

Okay so apparently everything that could go wrong with ESWC has gone wrong so far:
(a) Someone way before the tourney started was able to just walk into the main tourney area with a smartphone, wasn't stopped at all until he started taking pictures with it. Managed to take 3 before he got thrown out. Means there's likely very little security in regards to offline hacks etc.
(b) 90 minute (?) delay and counting. They claimed to have server issues but they have apparently been resolved 27 minutes ago as of this moment. No real explanation from what I know that would at least justify the delays.
(c) n0thing just tweeted the tourney PCs fail to reach even 200 fps.
(d) They have first person streams but only on some teams, only one per match. That's obviously extremely unfair.
Can you fuck up harder than this? Not sure what they could screw up at this point to make the situation worse if they tried haha.

if i remember correctly from the page they showed on stream, Liquid banned Cobble/Dust 2 and picked Overpass, C9 banned Mirage/Train and picked Inferno.
First map not looking too good for TL This is an important series, I feel, since a TL win would give them a lot of respect in the scene, considering people consider C9 to be pretty good at the moment.
Also, you guys also hearing a group of little kids screaming on the main stream in the background?

The venue is 18+ apparently.
Yeah it is, i remember seeing that Elige couldn't even go to the opening ceremony because it was taking place in a Casino, i think the venue itself has a bar set up which is probably the reason for the 18+.

There are, i'm not quite sure what it is as i was away too, but they have been having server issues (yesterday i think Titan - LG was delayed an hour because the server crashed and they had to find backup info for match)
Welp, could not have been closer... 1:1 and last match ALMOST overtime. Ultimately if Liquid had just a tiny bit better aim I think it would've been enough to inch out a win here even. Which is great in and of itself. WP TL!

it was 1-0, second map.
Oooh right, yeah. My mistake. With the server issues they've had, the break and the fact that ESWC is so incompetent, they didn't even think to add a map counter to the screen. Damn, I would've preferred a 2:1 loss obviously :p

Its been anything but smooth. Huge delays between games, production is awful and messy, computers for the players are laggy and randomly lose power (4 pcs lost power during c9 vs Liquid).

game 2 was being played, nV won the pistol and then there were some kind of technical difficulties (like lag or something). So I think it's delayed and it has been like 30 minutes now...

In Dota 2 at least, ESWC has been considered a joke to the point where they stopped running it, because nobody cared enough to watch. Electronic Sports World Cup.
Anyone else notice that the CS:GO community is not as vocal as the SC2 one was back when SC2 was one of the top esport games?
I remember MLG Dallas being a disaster and the thread on TL was like 800 pages long or something full of funny memes of hawks and shit. Im browsing reddit, HLTV etc and there isnt really that much talk about how awful this event is run..
I guess I just really miss the times where SC2 was the shit..

I was still rooting for F3 there somehow. I hate hate hate simple and think he's far and away the worst pro player in CSGO right now as far as toxicity, immaturity and sheer stupidity (he is good tho) BUT with this ridiculous hiko situation I just kinda had to cheer for them and for their upset against NIP.
It seems like NiP has lost some of their magic. My personal speculation is that it has to do with the fact that they simply have lost passion for the game. Many of their players have played since early 1.6 and might be tired of the game.
My wet and very improbable dream is that allu and Friberg leaves the roster and is replaced by HeatoN & SpawN who spontaneously decides to start playing professionally again. Id say the odds of that happening are extremely low.
On July 12 2015 08:33 Foxxan wrote: who should nip roster change then?
Preferably no-one and actually fix their problems. I dont think theres anyone better for replacement atm.
Yeah by this point I think we can clearly see that the issue is not with allu/maikelele etc. It has to do with the entire team and something really has to change internally.

heaton and spawn are old... that would mean the end of NiP. Heaton and Spawn were good for their respective time but Get_Right and Forest are better players than they ever were.

The second best team in the world is TSM, but C9 is rapidly closing. You'd have to put them top 5 now, maybe 3rd just after fNatic and TSM. It depends how the finals go, F3 will likely be a walkover but Na'Vi will be a great game. Then again Hikovich is playing great so who knows.

@goody. Fifflaren left NiP, Maikelele joined. And NiP almost won a 2nd major in a row. It was DH Winter against nV (under LDLC tag that time) and the deciding map (overpass) went to OT. NiP kicked Maike shortly after, and got allu.
They haven't taken a single series against slumping nV since than. And BOT allu became a stable meme. He is a monster sometimes and on some maps (inferno, train), maybe he even has a better aim than Bill, but his decision making is truly "something". And Bill is IGLing Kinguin like np despite being their main awper..

Danes are the 2014's frenchies for CS. Their second best team (dignitas) is better than NiP nowadays, TSM is tied with fnatic for being the best team in the world, and SK is rapidly improving.

Yup. Only live streams showing. Not event streams.
could explain nv's recent turn of results of late and with hastro's statement declaring changes i'm 99.9% this is true
In your opinion, which team is then favored by this change ?
Among these 10 players (or 11 if you count scream), rpk, existenz and maniac are the weakest. So it would benefit nV but then happy as an IGL is hit-or-miss.

I'd say that it's honestly an even trade. nV are a team that essentially has nothing but rifle skill (very high, at that) while Titan just don't have it together without KennyS carrying.
Getting a midround monster like Shoxxie is completely worth giving up their AWPer. Both teams end up a little better off - nV gets a dedicated AWP instead of 5 rifles, and Titan brings their average power level up.

either he got an offer from another team(and its not Na`Vi or VP I assume) or he is getting removed cause he toxic as fuck.
It doesn't sound like either of those cases. It sounds like he was dissatisfied or angry at a couple of players on the team and doesn't want to play with them. The last statement seems like an ultimatum.
So they started 20 min early or what lol? After a 3 hour break where EVERYBODY tunes out at some point (if you watched the women's game or not). That's possibly the biggest fuck up of them all. I missed almost the entire first map because of this...
Incredible, just incredible. ESWC needs to die already. They don't deserve success. I'm just not sure if it's incompetence year after year after year or holding out, trying to save on money and effort, on purpose.
I expected this kind of white wash honestly. I think C9 have been overvalued for their recent achievements. They got EXTREMELY lucky to get to play, what, five maps total in the last 2 weeks against an NV side that was breaking apart at the seams and couldn't, in all honesty, have won against any contender in either tourney. Against fnatic they lost 3-1, a lot of people respected that one map win highly (and they did do well, that's true) but in that map they got very lucky again because the admins denied an important and crucial timeout to Fnatic.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very impressed by the clear increase of skill on C9's side but I do think they also got very lucky in their choice of opponents recently which may have resulted in them looking EVEN better than they currently are.

the problem is that there's so much money and viewership sloshing through csgo: people will watch as long as the top teams agree to go to these incompetent tournaments. The same thing happened in dota and only recently people have been getting smarter about who to support.

Agreed 100%. As long as there's no competition, a tourney taking place at the same time, people - including me - will watch regardless. Kinda sucks that they never get punished for the BS they pull every time across every eSport but oh well.

Wrong. Three times per week, 1 hour at a time, strict food plan, some anabolic steroids injection with low to mid doses and you're fine in a couple of months. See Mike Mentzer's heavy duty training, for example. Or Dorian Yates' way of training.
For the tourney, despite the horrible production, it was a fun one. C9 are so promising and refreshing. I liked it.

Lol, being a pro player doesn't mean you are not allowed to do anything else than playing in your fucking life. What the fuck people, if they enjoy lifting shit in what would be their free time for a normal job (which several of my friends do, and it doesn't take even nearly all of it), why shouldn't they do so? Playing during every single moment you are awake doesn't make you better either. Flaming them about that sounds like jealousy to me. I'd be more concerned with the drugs shit, I'm curious as to how many teams use ADHD medication to perform better.

Completely agree. There's a point in practice (like in everything you do) were you just don't improve anymore. If people really start to expect that pros play 12-14 hours a day then they have to be reminded of the fact that pros: 1. won't get better just because they grind more games 2. will just burn out at such a rate of playing.
Free time is necessary, especially if you want to improve as much as you can. And for a lot of people sports, e.g. working out, is actually a hobby. I don't understand why this is even worth a discussion :D
