So it sounds like FF7 Part 1 is going to be a full game but just include Midgar it seems?
So basically I already know how the game will start and finish but I can level 1-99, get uber gear, material, specials, but the "final" boss could be the motorcycle race into that final uhhh destroyer car lol.
It just seems like Midgar will be really open and have many sections that you can explore so I am able to find new bosses, weapons etc etc.
Although, then will FF7 Part 2 I start back over at level 1 and I'm at Kalm with all the characters I had before and need to regear back up?
Unless they just completely do a somewhat new story, maybe tell it a different way but still have the overall plot there.
Well FF7 was sort of an open world just not in major hubs. And the path was pretty much a given on where to go and what to do. After you leave Midgar there is only one destination you can go as it is the only thing on the map. AFter that it is pretty much a trail as well. And you can't go back until after you get other forms of transportation.
Did they say exactly how many parts there would be? I highly doubt Midgar alone would be enough for a standalone game. I could see them ending part 1 when the original first disc ends. + Show Spoiler +

when aeris dies
Pretty sure first disc ended in Calm. Second disc ended when Aeris died, no?
Unless some versions are different I'm like 99% sure the first disc ends in bone village right after aeris dies. The second disc ends pretty much before you enter the final area (northern crater). Think you beat weapon then infiltrate Midgar to confront Hojo. Afterwards you head to the crater and put in the third disc.
I'm pretty sure the first disc ends right after Aeris' death, and the second ends at the crater after everyone except Cloud and Tifa leave the airship.
Fans have been asking for a FFVII remake for years. What about the gaming landscape makes now the right time?
The landscape was one thing, but it was more that we’d been working on the XIII series for the last 10 years. My team and I were mainly focused on that project. Final Fantasy VII Remake would be an equivalent – or even greater – project in terms of scale, and so it would have been hard to do both at the same time. After XIII ended, of course XV is currently being developed by [Hajime] Tabata-san’s team, so it presented a time when we can fully place our focus on the Final Fantasy VII Remake.
When the remake was first announced, there was some confusion among fans about its multi-part format. Is comparing it to the Final Fantasy XIII saga fair in that regard? Will each entry have that kind of scope?
It will essentially be a full-scale game for each part of the multi-part series. In XIII, each installment told the story from a different angle. It was kind of like approaching an unknown territory, in a sense. Whereas with Final Fantasy VII Remake, we already have a preexisting story, so it wouldn’t really make sense if that isn’t encompassed in the multi-part series, and it wouldn’t make sense to remake it if we don’t encompass that that entire story.
With regards to the current HD capacity and volume, the idea is that we wouldn’t be able to encompass it all in just one installment. So, if we’re just looking at each of these parts, one part should be on par with the scale of one Final Fantasy XIII game.
So, there isn’t any pressure to include every character and storyline from the Compilation content?
Yes, there may be instances where the characters appear themselves, or are just referenced in dialogue. But, of course, it would be difficult to follow up on everything that happened in this universe. So, maybe some of the characters who weren’t as famous won’t appear or be mentioned. But in terms of the characters and instances that remain in the memories of our fans, we do want to try our best to integrate that in some fashion in the world.
Not many creators have the chance to revisit a previous project like this. For you personally, is there any aspect of FFVII that you’re looking forward to bringing back to life?
That’s a difficult question. There are certain scenes that are ingrained in the memories of our fans – like Cloud dressing a female, or that impactful Aerith scene. At that time, that was the latest technology and the latest graphics, but now it does look a little bit cheap as far as how it looks graphically and how those scenes are staged. So, everyone’s probably wondering how those scenes will be brought back to life in current, realistic graphics and how they will be expressed. And I myself am interested in that, but it’s also a challenge. For all of those scenes that people remember, I’m wondering how we can meet expectations and express them properly in current-gen graphics.
I’m sure there are areas that our fans want to see how we can change, and areas that they don’t want changed. The opinions of our fans are probably split on a lot of those elements, so determining from a development standpoint where we’ll be more true to the original versus where we change is something we hope to grasp through communicating with our fans. Also, while we want to understand their concerns, we also want to get them excited for the story and seeing how it can be revamped and refreshed.
"Final Fantasy VII Remake would be an equivalent – or even greater – project in terms of scale"
How does this even make any sense? Great deal of work for a game should be put into the story and its gameplay mechanics, no? With the FF7 remake you already have all the important factors. All you need is the graphics.
This really shows how far SE has fallen. Story and gameplay have become secondary to graphics and they still dont realise that this is the reason they have lost so many fans

i dont understand what exactly u are complaining about from that quote. it just states the scale of the game that's all.
and why do people just want the exact same game but updated graphics? i think that would be a huge disservice to fans of the game. there is a lot that they can add to the game, maybe stories that were never fully told in the original, more character development, more areas to explore etc.

as long as they can wrap it up nicely i wouldnt mind too much. the worst would be if it ended suddenly.

Yet another one of those "change nothing except graphics" people eh
That would literally be the worst thing they could do. Even worse than just not making the game altogether. All the possibilities in the world and you want a graphical update of a twenty-year old game, smh

Your first and second statement contradict each other...
It's very easy to see how much more they could add over the original. More areas to explore within the world we already know, NPC interactions and storytelling elements... And all that doesn't even include the combat system and actual gameplay.
Pretty much confirms a no show at E3, and the Tokyo Game show as XV releases in September. Fuck. So bets are on PSX:
Update on Final Fantasy VII Remake Additionally, the director gave an update regarding Final Fantasy VII Remake. He mentions that the game is still a while away, but says not to worry as development is going at a steady pace. Square Enix will share more information about the game at a later time and when they do, Nomura will make an appearance to publicly reveal it.
So anyone just get an email from Amazon? Release date has changed to December 29th, 2017. No idea if true but were slowly moving that the first part will be next year to coincide with the anniversary.
I'm not going to play this, but I still remember the victory fanfare at the end of random battles...
Such nostalgia brings a tear to my eye. Are they using the same tune but with better instruments? It used to be just a midi tune. Would be cool to hear that played with instruments.

That would be the best fucking birthday present EVER.
EDIT: Although it kinda makes no sense from a release / marketing aspect if you think about it.
