Anyone actually know what the Defensive Matrix does during the UFO defense mission? I'm just kind of curious, as the mission isn't too hard. Scout + Sniper setups work really well on a lot of things in XCOM2.

You get 2 (4 if you upgrade) turrets (I assume stats are the same as ADVENT ones, didn't bother checking) at the ramp.

It a waste of supplies/power and space.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

Finally got around to finishing the last mission on my first playthrough. Finished with zero casualties (commander) thanks to mimic beacon, mind control, and general + Show Spoiler +

cheese. Time to do legend. I may wait a little bit to see what mods are available. There are definitely some things that need tuning. The MVP of my campaign was my sniper/sharpshooter, who saved me all sorts of trouble for the first 75% of the game. By the end, however, my strongest soldier was my sword ranger. I found grenadiers to be incredibly useful all game long. They did serious work for me -- blowing all sorts of people out of cover. I felt like my specialists were a little so-so other than being combat protocol and threat assessment/aid protocol bots. Hacking shit seemed too risky to me.

I definitely love the game and look forward to more campaigns.

Yeah, I can't wait for massive mod equivalent to Long War comes out. While XCOM2 is much better game than its predecessor, there's still few things I'd like to see fine-tuned.

Finished up the final mission. That was fun. I managed to get to the final phase with all of my grenades & abilities up. Managed to absorb a really well placed large AoE effect from one of the bosses with Restoration still available. That worked really well.

On the Story:

I'm still not sure what everyone is complaining about. It's a turn-based combat sci-fi game with procedurally generated maps. There's limitations on what you can do with the story within the confines of the game style. And I think they did a good job. The story served what the game was attempting, it didn't get in the way and I like the main characters we interacted with. Though being able to shut Central off in the Retaliation Missions would have been nice, haha.

I also like the setup for XCOM 3. It has a nice chunk of series call-backs and leaves the "Why" of the game as a hook for the sequel. Which is actually a pretty smart thing to do, narratively speaking. Most of the time in sci-fi series, Alien Invasions happen because "well, they're evil!". Here we get a big driver that's actually an open question. We know a little bit, but not the entire picture. I look forward to XCOM 3.


I plan to run a Legendary Campaign in the near future, but I want to check out some of the creature-comfort Mods. There's some scaling bits that could use tweaking (Swords especially. They should Crit at a much higher rate and for a lot more). And some of the interesting additions that the community can come up with should be interesting as well.

It's probably also good to remember that they'll be releasing official add-ons in parts during the Summer, so we'll see what they add. (I didn't buy them yet, as I really don't like buying DLC months before it arrives.)

I firmly believe that if the sales were (are) good, and the community keeps supporting the game with interest we could see a good, story-driven Xpack where XCOM2 ending lead us to.

Well, not quite two weeks in and roughly 600k sales on Steam. So they could have topped a million units already. Not a bad thing, me thinks. Should mean we get more in the future.

One funny oddity throughout the game for me was the Spokesman. He's voiced by Jon Bailey, who does the "Honest Trailers" voice-overs. (Plus other things.) I kept expecting boob jokes the entire time, haha.

On a related note, is there a mod with XP displayed? I played the UFO attack until I got bored. Would have been nice to know if I was still meaningfully farming XP.

Would be cool if they fix all the LoS stuff. Find it really annoying if my soldiers activate a pod through 3 concrete walls.

they dont even need to fix it as much as to implement a LoS indicator. i am fine with seeing through 3 concrete walls and 5 parallel universes as long as i know that beforehand.

Seriously, I already finished the game once and I'm still having problems with LoS. I position my squad around a door to enter it the next turn. I have 2 people to the left and right of the door and a few scattered around the area. Then some dude I ask to hug the wall somehow sees the pod through the walls. Oftentimes, he's even positioned between two people on the same wall in adjacent tiles neither of whom saw through the wall.

Game is crushing left and right for me , started a while ago , i play a mission , bam crush , i do stuff in the base , bam crush ..... is it a known thing??? something got messed up with my files or something?

I have had a few crashes as well, not as often as it sounds like you have though. They decreased after I updated my graphics drivers.

It's even more infuriating when you're in high cover 2 cells from an alien and still can't see him. High cover really fucks with LoS, given your soliders always step around the corner to fire anyway, you'd think they could see aliens 2 feet away from them.
