High cover really fucks with LoS, given your soliders always step around the corner to fire anyway, you'd think they could see aliens 2 feet away from them. The high cover your behind is not the problem. Its the other tree/rock/whatever that is between you and the target that is the problem.

Had an alien yesterday that turned invisible to my soldiers after I blew up its cover. Maybe because the wall was gone, but the ladder leading to the roof was still there...

I've decided that Conceal/Overwatch ambushes are newb traps. Shot accuracy on overwatch is too shitty. Most of the time, you're better off taking one shot at an enemy and then using the rest of your guys to blow up cover/take flanking shots.

There definitely seems to be multiple checks in the way the LoS is calculated. Though part of it for the Door Breach stuff is that the LoS is actually an approximated circle for each Enemy. And a lot of the generated levels like to put the Cover-only tiles as the reaction range.
Weapon LoS definitely seems to come from somewhere around the Neck-level of the solider, though. It's why you can see over all 1/2 cover but can't see over *most* full cover. Some of the Lightposts seem to act a little strangely, in regards to LoS. And I do hope someone makes an interesting mod about it.
Though the most game-breaking mod would be to let you look through your soliders' eyes. The game is actually rendered at all times, even when it is in the fog of war. You see this some times with Overwatch shots letting you see enemies that can't been aggro'd yet.

Even for high aim characters like snipers I feel your often better of not ambushing.

Overwatch traps must be triggered in alien turn, otherwise, they are not worth it. Conceal doesn't have the penalty, but for some reason it tends to shoot first at the "leader" of the pod, which early game is the sectoid. And you don't really want to shoot the sectoid.

Same here. There's the advantage of overwatch firing on an enemy not yet in cover but I find that the advantage of being in full control of my troops is better. It gets more pronounced after the early game when my squad starts getting their abilities.

I have had 1 crash during the final mission(during the loading screen even), 2 bugs that caused me to restart the game but no crashes apart from that.
Still horrible optimization tho.

Early game retaliation missions on Legendary are fucking evil.

Really? I feel like one of the easiest part of the game is right after the first couple missions, you have 2 grenadier or 2 rangers (or both!) and you stomp the un-upgraded aliens. The first retaliation was a cakewalk with 2 rangers and 2 grenadiers for me.

I wiped the first time because 2 pods (2 sectoids, 4 soldiers) and a faceless all triggered at once.

When used as an ambush OW suffers no hit penalty. This is a hint on the score screen.

Best way to break conceal is an Acid Grenade. Does good damage, shreds and slows everything, so they can't really scatter. Follow up with another grenade and move on. Poison should kill non-mechs at the beginning of their turn, remains are easy pickings for Combat Protocol or a shotgun.
I managed to grab an Acid grenade and one Dragon rounds from the second pickup on a new campaign. Fun was cut short on the next mission, where the game decided to drop THREE stun lancers.

I mostly put shoot your whole clip empty when breaking concealment people on overwatch. You can really get OP guys thanks to the hidden ability. But yeah hitchance is a bit meh and that you have to position your troops in a way so that they shoot at what you want them to shoot at, and not at the usally really tanky or worse dodgy leader.
I got better at it though. Or was just really unlucky in the beginning. So I usually clean the first pod now without using grenades etc. Usually takes 1 more turn to setup though.
Stun lancer are Flashbang victims. They don't charge and get closer, so they are easier to deal with. And not dash towards you and stun 3 of your guys :p
