I've started up a DE campaign and I'm trying to get a lot of the other DEs to confederate with me eventually, but unfortunately that's limiting my expansion options. I've invaded south to Clan Karond or w/e, but that leaves me vulnerable to the seemingly random rampages of Skaven and Beastmen. Does anyone have a general expansion patter for DE as Malekith?
You're gonna have a hard time expanding as DE without fighting other DE. Priority 1 is unifying Naggarond... I'd really only confederate when convenient and mostly just assume I'm gonna kill everything. Well, run around sacking for a while first. But then killing everything.

Best plan for a Malekith campaign is to aggressively conquer everything to your north and east. War fuels your economy, so you aren't really losing anything by foregoing confederation. Additionally, confederation seems somewhat unreliable compared to the first game. Your next step is to start island hopping directly towards Ulthuan.

Without the enormous bonus the Chaos Invasion gave in the first game I'm not getting confederates until well into the late game. Not worth waiting that long for your neighbours.
|
you basically have to military alliance your target, and have them get their army wasted. Then you can instant confederate. Did that as skaven. Only one that can really easily confederate is High Elfs and Cult. And Cult can later be absorbed by Malekith.
And I knew from my High Elf playthrough what insane buildings Dark Elves have. So my first half of playing Cult was Dark Elves vs Dark Elves. Beating up Dark Elves kept everyone from declaring war on me until It was to late to stop me. The Vault is just to good.

Apparently this is the general shape of the Mortal Empires map:

The guy pieced it together from water territory info hidden in the game. It looks about right when compared to the screenshot that CA disclosed last week.

What are they gonna do with the big open strip on the right for now? I assume thats where the chaos dwarves will be later right?
|
Chaos Dwarves and Ogre Kingdoms at the least, I believe.
Also, I learned something new today: you can bounce burning head off of walls.

Essentially the only factions left are tomb kings, ogre kingdoms, chaos dwarfs, and a more fleshed out chaos right?

And I'd be shocked if Tomb Kings are not a faction DLC for Warhammer 2. Their territory is pretty much already in the game. But I guess you could also count Chaos Demons among the missing ones as well as other minor factions.

Yeah that empty strip is Chaos Dwarfs + Ogres
The will probably throw some other stuff in there because most of it is empty desolate space.

Daemons of Chaos. They could also resurrect some old stuff like Albion, Araby and Dogs of War (army composed only of regiments of renown) but that might be superfluous.
Here's where Chaos Dwarves (and Ogre Kingdoms) would be:

They should also add chimera to WoC (in place of feral manticore):

Tomb Kings will most likely be the main DLC race for Warhammer 2, they'll probably keep Daemons of Chaos, Ogre Kingdom and Chaos Dwarves untill Warhammer 3, stuff like Cathay, Araby, Ind, etc. will probably be non-playable factions in Warhammer 3 on the map.

I'd expect to see Araby in WH2 as a DLC faction.

So apparently if you skip the Malekith tutorial you get a Black Guard and a Reaper, but if you do the tutorial you also get two Cold One Knights. Seems odd.
|
See, I'm assuming both Tomb Kings and Araby are DLC for WH2. Would be silly to launch with placeholders, go to the trouble of making them, and not have them be playable. That and there's not a lot of other obvious races to add unless you do silly things like add Amazons. (Though they've hinted at lots of DLC lords, probably including new units or mechanics.) It's possible, of course, that Kislev or Southern Realms get reworks in 2, but the smart money is on Kislev being part of the package for 3.
WH3 then is Kislev, Ogre Kingdoms, Chaos Dwarfs, and Demons of Chaos.
|
One thing that I have noticed about WH2 is that there are a lot more elite large unit killers in the game than in WH1. As I am screwing around with the various Empire sub-factions against the new races, I find that tanks and demigryphs don't get anywhere as much done in WH2. In fact, they get killed by all sorts of shit. I wonder how Bretonnia is going to fare against this new stuff.
|
Why are you guys assuming they'll keep stuff on the backburner for WH3? Did they reveal/announce anything about part 3? I'm kinda out of the loop here.
edit: I did a bit of digging and apparently there is a planned Warhammer 3. I guess that's good? Also I found this cool map on the web:

This puts things into perspective for people like me who only got into WH fantasy with this series. It's cool to see the grand map and how it was divided into games. Now if only I could find one like this but with labelled playable races on the map
|
I don't know what your source is, but that looks like Total Bullshit. Only the Ogre Kingdoms have an army in Warhammer Fantasy, and the others don't actually have models, or even much of a lore.
|
Cathay would be so awesome fleshed out.
|
Cathay would not make any sense, except if they are planning on creating a lot of lore and units. I find it very doubtful. Ogrekingdoms + chaos dwarves and a more fleshed out mortal empires campaign is what is expected. And chaos daemons obviously.
