I think a lot of it starts to become implicit due to experience that many vets have from playing the series. It's not like the mechanics stay the same or anything, but you definitely have a feel for what you can expect or not from the previous games.

So I had one hour to play today, and of course they released a new patch that got stuck on 82%. This is beyond annoying.

Anyone knows what to do when Steam gets full retard like that?

My steam took a while to download yesterday, I assume Sega's servers weren't up for the task. You could opt in for an older version in your steam menu to dodge the download/restart it (right-click on tww in your library, properties->betas->choose a different version, choose the new version again once the download of the old one starts).

If the problem persists as a last measure you can try to reinstall.

Ended up loading. The time i loaded my campaign, i had to go. Fml.

So it looks vampires have been rolling over everyone from Norsca to Karaz a Karak. It’s quite fun. Now they are probably going to get gang raped by Archaon and his mates who just spawned in the North. I’m preparing those popcorns while finishing the last pockets of resistance in Naggarond.

Mortal Empires looks good I have to say. I wish the Empire and its provinces were a bit stronger, but otherwise not much to complain about. With Norsca it’s gonna be awesome but at least they are not going full mad max with endless their armies of chariots.

Nice, glad that you could fix it.

Tried out a chaos invasion buff mod which promptly spawned 25 chaos armies straight in my territory. And damn, got to say t5 chaos is no joke. Can't remember getting trashed by the AI that hard ever.

Last time I played beyond turn 100 was my DE campaign and DE can just delay and kite Chaos.
TK doesn't have that option, their archers suck and Chaos far outperforms them in every slot except maybe monster. Chosen vs Tombguard feels like fighting Saurus with Clanrats all over again. I didn't really expect the Chaos knights to run over the Sepulchra and the dragon ogre beating 2 necropolis knights either. Guess I'll have to Zerg them and hope they don't reinforce.

Is the base game of Warhammer TW1 worth buying without DLCs? It's 66% off now but DLCs are still full price.

If your interested in playing it and the base races then yes it is very much worth it.
Note that the DLC is only to play the DLC races, they will always be on your map as AI factions so you still get the 'full' experience
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

If you have TWW2 you unlock 4 factions (5? Idk about bretonia) for ME-campaigns, which makes it pretty cost effective compared to the dlcs. Vampires and Empire are pretty good factions to boot.
If you don't have tww2 and want to check out the game, then definitely yes.

Thanks. Was worried playing only 4 factions would be bland but good to know you still get to fight the others as AI opponents

Even 4 factions is 40 hours or something similar to complete them all (if they are all interesting). Then I assume you can mod or raise difficulty and get more hours out of it past that.

You can play for months with four factions tbh. The game is just gigantic and you can play an almost unlimited amount of completely unrecognizable campaigns with the same factions. The quality of this game is just incredible.

If you could only play the empire, the game would still be worth every penny it costs.

Keep in mind that you need to own TWW1 to unlock the Mortal Empires map, which is pretty much the definitive TWW experience. So definitely get it if you already have TWW2.

This. Actually TWW1 is better than the Vortex campaign, so I would start there anyway.

I liked the Vortex campaign way more, personally. I like the idea of it being a race with opposing factions on the other side of the map and either fighting hard early to take and hold key territory (currency spots) or having later to go disrupt whoever's about to win. The story itself, although simple and somewhat shallow, adds some cool roleplay.

The Vortex campaign map is a better map than TWW1, but I just hate the Vortex mechanic for reasons discussed earlier in the thread. It's not fun.

My current Empire campaign campaign has gotten super serial. I'm at war with just about everyone. I have most of the Empire lands south of the Reik and Taleb, plus Middenland, all of the Bretonnian lands except for Leoncouer's lands, Tilea, Estalia, and The Vaults. In addition to dealing with Chaos and Varg coming in from the North and Northeast, I have Naggarond, Cult of Pleasure, and Clan Rictus invading from Ulthuan into my Bretonnian holdings, Mazdamundi and Teclis flying up my ass into Estalia, Clan Moulder running over Greenskin lands to attack Sylvannia, and Skarsnik running amok in Reikland and Wissenland. Oh, and the Dwarves declared war on me, too, for good measure. The only major factions that aren't at war with me are the Tomb Kings, Greenskins (go figure), and Wood Elves. I've been hanging on my the skin of my teeth at times, but even then, I'm still losing territories, which never typically happens.

Sometimes the ai wants you dead. What level of difficulty?

Very hard. I think the problem is that an entangling alliance resulted in a breach of a trade agreement or something, which made me unreliable. Then came the DoW cascade over the next 10 turns. Sure, Teclis can't be bothered to save his brother's ass in Ulthuan, but he sure seems to have time to settle my hash over something that has nothing to do with him. The trait is absurd, too. I'm at +90 relations (trusted friends) with the Dwarves, but they won't make peace with me. Nor will anyone else.

I think that the proper order of operations to get out of this mess will be as follows. Step 1 will be to kill all Chaos stacks except for the last one. I need to buy time to consolidate my position before the next wave shows up. Step 2 will be to eliminate the Crooked Moon so that Reikland and Wissenland are secure. Step 3 will be to push hard Northeast and kick the Varg out the Empire territories up there and Kislev. This will let me form a better defensive line against Chaos. Once Chaos is gone, then I'll show the Dark Elves and everyone else what a true grudge is.

According to my experience the only thing that makes the AI accept peace is crushing their armies. So my order of things would probably be trying to keep chaos at bay and try to kill all armies of the smallest faction, peace them out, beat all armies of the next larger faction, peace them out, rinse and repeat until you're only at war with few enough nations that they don't really slow down your expansion speed.
So basically like every trickier start on VH+.
Depending on whether or not you want the Dwarves as allies again I'd force them out first or last.

Hehe in my first battle Ungrim Ironfist and his slayer unit charged right into Gnashrak's Orcs, unit nearly got wiped out but won and Ungrim with just one wound remaining defeated Gnashrak in combat and executed him. That was some pretty neat stuff lore wise.

Gameplay wise I nearly lost my lord and special unit in a favoured fight of the easy campaign but oh well lol

Lord battles are literally the most wonky shit in this game. With hit ratios being what they are in this game and without PRD systems it's always possible that the enemy lord just focuses out yours in the midst of your unit and gets 5 hits in a row while your guy misses the 5 in a row with evenish stats. 40% just isn't very stable.
