Titan was supposed to be a MMO, but why would you make competition for one of your biggest cash cow (WoW)? It just doesn't make sense from a financial point of view. IMO Overwatch is a good move from Blizzard since now they pretty have at least one game/one foot in all the video game genres out there (RTS, MOBA, FPS, hack-and-slash, MMORPG etc.)
Besides nobody plays a FPS game for the story, as long as it is fun.

@Plansix ...and my grown up friends and me cringed when we watched the cinematic, but we got excited when we saw the gameplay. You overestimate the excitement that a cinematic Pixar style would generate on mature players, and i say that, bu i consider to be in close contact with my inner 6 year old too. I don't mind the look and the artstyle, but the video was as cringeworthy as a sc2 closing ceremony (specially with Taeja as the winner).
Proof is in many threads that you could read about the video, but how the tone of the posts changed once they saw the gameplay. @diehilde Yep, it is sad, but probably it was for the best. Atleast for me, MMORPGs are just a chore nowadays and their moment has passed. Maybe in ten years, when i am completely desintoxicated of the genre, i may enjoy something new, but for now, a fun shooter which is not TF will serve me well.

I would say first impression is very important for casual players, and by going this art style, they will able to reach wider audience group, such as the one from WoW. Majority of video game players falls under casual player category.
Hardcore players will only be attracted to the game if the gameplay are well designed, not due to the art style.

I sort of have to disagree. The idea of gameplay and art style (aesthetics) is not something that can simply stated as black or white. Even with hardcore players, if the art style is too damning, one can still be turned off. It is a culmination of both and while one may carry more weight than the other (gameplay more than aesthetics), one cannot merely underplay or ignore the latter.
For myself, the viability of the game as a whole will not be determined until I can get my hands on it. The general feel, killing capabilities, and potential for it being skill reliant will be figured out next year. I do not want the game to be built around the idea of competitive play. Having tools available would be greatly appreciated.
In the end, the game looks like it will be fun to play with friends. If it holds more depth than other games released lately, I will be happy. At this point, I am just looking forward to playing a game that is actually fun.

While I agree that I dont have time for grinding classic MMORPGs anymore, I think the unrealized potential of the genre is a lot bigger than that of the team shooter genre.

Why is it that nowadays everybody comments on blizzards actions like a shareholder? I am commenting as a gamer and as a gamer all I can say is that their recent (well almost a decade now really) products have pretty much sucked hard in comparison to their classics. And from the looks of it this "Overwatch" game is far from classic material as well. I dont care how much money blizz makes and if its a "good move" from an economical point of view.
I like analogies, so here is one: Imagine McDonalds would have been the finest steak house in the world at some point in the past and now they would be releasing a new trashy burger. Why would I care about it being potentially profitable for McDonalds? I like a good steak, not fast food. Im no shareholder, Im a fan of good video games and as such, Im disappointed by blizz and this "Overwatch" bs. Being able to make more money doesnt justify everything. This is hugely disappointing and Im calling it.

I agree, from what I read Titan wasn't scrapped because it was competition to WoW. I'm pretty sure Titan was actually conceived to complement WoW, since not everyone liked WoW or there's always room for more games (sub numbers have been going down, old game, etc).
Titan was supposed to be the next-gen MMO, but from the description it sounded a lot more like the next-gen Second Life, but with raiding. The devs didn't even like playing it, so I don't know why people insist it being scrapped was a bad thing.

Of course its just my opinion, what else could it be?? I just dont state the obvious (that its an opinion) explicitly because its just unnecessary and I expect every reader of internet forums to know that when he/she is reading reactions to a newly announced game its all opinions. Hots was a disappointment to you? I dont even own Hots because WoL already killed all my interest in SC2 in just a cpl months. The drop in quality from BW to WoL surely was a lot bigger than the one from WoL to HotS could have been (in my opinion )

imho quite genius move if they can pull it off. fusing tf2 with "moba"like heroes and abilities sounds like a damn fun thing. also a giant player in the market releasing a big fast paced fps alone is something that makes me interested.
didnt think they could do it but im in a positive way surprised. something i didnt get from blizz announcement in ages.

Many of my friends aren't excited about the game but I think it still looks fun and full of potential. I am concerned that Blizzard said in one of the panels that they currently aren't implementing some kind of in-game voice system. I think not having a voice system will hurt mid to high level pubs in a game that emphasizes strategy and team coordination.

It wont have voice coms for the same reason as Hearthstone did not have chat. People want to play and relax, not listen to a 14y old telling them hes doing their mother.

That is a rather weak reasoning. Why not simply allow someone to you know... turn it off? All it does is impose a philosophical restriction on a game instead of allowing it to be more open and determine where it develops on its own.

Hearthstone is a head to head game. There are no other gametypes in Hearthstone than 1v1. Overwatch is team-based and fundamentally different. What you may want to say to your opponent in Hearthstone is decidedly different from what you will want to say to your teammates.

Heroes of the Storm is the better example. The game is based on the sc2 engine which already has voice chat so it must be disabled for some reason or another.

Heroes of the Storm is absolutely a game that should have voice chat, and I don't know why it doesn't. You're right that Heroes is the better example, because it doesn't make any sense that another team-based game lacks a core communication method.

Sc2has voice chat because its pay to play, heroes is f2p.
Yep, that's the reason. So we can probably assume this will be f2p too, also titan was going to be F2p.
Also I think nobody actually use a the in game voice chat in sc2 everyone already uses RC/Ts other stuff.
