In my current game my pretender-god-dragon Trogdor has rank 9 fire magic and I researched up to lvl 6 (evocation?). Problem is that Trogdor casts so much fireball/rain-of-fire/omgwtfbbqflame that the whole battlefield catches fire and Trogdor ends up burninating a bunch of his own peasants.
I know you can give fire resist gear to commanders, but is there anything I can do for the poor regular troops? I hate having to send so many letters home to their loved ones. I'm playing EA Ermor.
Also another question, whats so bad about old age units? Doesn't seem like that bad of a debuff to me.
Fire Fend is a F4 spell for 1 fire gem, available at Enchantment 8 (ouch!). That protects your entire army from fire. A lesser version is Flame Ward (F2, 1 fire gem) available at Enchantment 5 which only protects 15 units at a time. The Enchantment 1 spell Protection from Fire (F1, free) only protects the caster.
Old age units suffer -2 precision and additional encumbrance. This is especially annoying on battle mages which tend to have the trait in the first place. Actually landing evocations like lightning bolt becomes that much more random.
|
Ah thanks guys, didn't realize that precision would affect spells. Guess I will need to start some enchantment research as I'm only at lvl 2. For now Trogdor will have to be content defending the throne and fort on the border with Ulm.
|
You can also try to cast more wide-area spells (falling fires) before the troops close, and more precise ones (fireball?) once the melee units have made contact.
|
as you can only set the first 5 spells... ^^ This won't work that well. And with F9 the pretender won't have fatigue issues that quick
|
Well you could script big spells for the first five turns and then check the "conservative gem use" box. That way gems won't be used for anything unscripted and a lot of the more massive spells require gems. Not a perfect solution, of course.

I am terribly sorry for making you guys wait like that last time. I didn't realize how unknowingly cruel i was being. Nah, it's just lighthearted ribbing. The first few turns should be relatively rapid-fire. After the first year, things tend to slow down as diplomacy comes into the foray. I know bud XD. I was being a bit melodramatic. Just a bit.

I'm biting my nails for the next turn in TL2, as I am involved in a bit of a scrap right now...

Why are you all such warmongers? Can't we all live in peace and friendship? :/

Yea in our TL3 game I don't think any players have attacked anyone yet :o.
(Cept Indies....)
But everyone knows they have no souls :o

Turn 5? I mean I *could* have severely inconvenienced a neighbor I won't name just yet, but why send a flying swat team to conquer undefended provinces when I can lose half my army conquering bloody useless provinces that can't be bothered to provide indie commanders worth a damn?
:'(
I'm going to cry in a corner now with my 6 morale elephant; he'll cheer me up.
|
So you guys have already attacked innocent independents? You should all be bound on back of a frightened elephant until you puke!
|
If your neighbor is me, I advise you to expand northward rather than southward and leave my "undefended" provinces alone. I know you're there and I know what Caelum's mapmove is.
|
Heh. Like I said, if I had wanted to do that, I would have done it last turn. It would also have been pretty stupid pissing off a neighbor this early on the game since there is no way I would have kept the province(s).
My troops are basically ewoks with wings. Apart from the mammoths, but it's not like they can fly (yet).
I'm already sandwiched between at least three people. This is going to suck.
|
Everyone is surrounded by a minimum of two three neighbors It's a somewhat cramped map.
|
Yeah, this is definitely more cramped than the EA game. Peliwyr is an awesome map but if we're going to have large games (which is great!) we might want a different one.
|
If you divide ~120 provinces by 10 players, you get 12 provinces. I wasn't expecting to find Man on turn 2 with my first scout. Oh well, I'll just dig a few trenches WW1 style. Looks like neither of us is getting that throne for a while, by the way. I didn't know indie pretender armies existed.

Indie Pretender? Whassat?
I love the random indie units in this game. Like running into a party of 4 Ogres, one warrior, a thief, a mage, and a priest. And they took out like 20 of my dudes but then dropped some awesome unique items. I haven't seen that level of random monsters since like diablo 2.

Just kidding about the pretender part, though you have to wonder.
The 4-man party is reportedly based on an old D&D campaign the developers used to run. They're basically a roaming easter egg and some of the items can't be obtained anywhere else.

L3 thrones are indeed defended by pretenders. In TLG2 there is a pretender defending the throne with combined 14 magic pathes...
