Here's the problem with releasing any footage or anything. It's a game that footage will create indication of certain game mechanics. Those game mechanics are subject to change. It's a small team, they don't want to have to explain the mechanics that might not even be there by the time they get questioned about them. It's a waste of time. Even though you yourself think that you won't cause an unwanted reaction to alpha footage, the same can't necessarily be said for the whole community\public.
As to creating hype. Please don't. Put any hype or expectation you have on the shelf until you see the product. A lot of development studios are pressured to gain hype because their investors and publishers put pressure on them, hence they are more likely to release early footage. Artillery doesn't function in the same way. They will take as much time as they need to create the best game that they can. Promises to the public does not equate promises between developer and investor. Artillery wouldn't take on investors that wouldn't give them the freedom to work without a deadline. This is my opinion, I might be wrong, and you can debate however you want about it being BS, I'm not going to say much more.
So my recommendation is to just walk away, don't hold your breath waiting for this game. Don't have any hype or expectations. When it comes out, it comes out. They are still changing the fundamental game mechanics three years after they started development? O.o You would think one of them would have started working on the graphics by now. You say they don't want to answer questions about changing mechanics but they aren't talking about anything anyway. Who invested in this game anyway? Or is that a secret too?
It's called iterative development. You put out a playable build, realise whats good and whats bad, cut the bad stuff and stick with the good stuff, even if that means changing some core aspects of the game. The result is though that certain graphics, animations and so on don't make any sense anymore. And it can also take way longer if some stuff that was good before seems to be bad in a new context. Though in the long run it makes for a better game. (This is something people want Blizzard to do with SC2 btw, because it gets the best results most of the time, but it's also obviously one of the more expensive things)
They DO have graphics btw, and they look just fine, but they are just like everything in the game subject to change as the result of the development.
Day9 leaving is obviously sad, but a game is never made by just one guy. I believe that if the Artillery guys have the right vision, they can still do it.

did Day9's best pal Eric (and Day9TV co-worker) leave Artillery Games as well? on a team of 20 guys that includes a few part timers... losing 2 full timers is a big loss.

The vast majority of games do not get made. Maybe this one will, but its been a long time.

I'm pretty sure Day9 wasn't doing nothing. What I meant was: Was he just keeping a vision of the game? (I.e. the goal should be to do X), or was he actually doing design on it? (To achieve goal X, we need to do Y). If it was the latter, it's worse than if he was just a vision keeper.

I would expect that he was given a significant equity share in Artillery for his work. That he has walked away from it is telling.

Regardless if the game design and concepts were good, the developers may not have had the skills necessary to bring a quality game to market. At some point, projects fail.

I guess I shouldn't call what I played a "beta" because the game certainly wasn't at that point.

The game is still in development though. It hasn't failed.

A few months back there was a posting for a game designer, and likely the last while has been Sean getting that guy/girl up to speed.
It's been a long time.

"BW Remake"? BW with HD textures is hardly a remake. And DoW3... I mean DoW 1 and 2 weren't really great eSports titles.

Clearly if this game is a failure, RTS players will have to wait for ever to have a good game :
- BW HD will not be played enough in europe/US - DoW III has no esports potential (I hope to be wrong on this one but gameplay footages seems "meh") - Warcraft IV in 2022 or never - ??

was this really an RTS game any way? it started as a "spiritual successor to Starcraft" ( whatever that means ) and became a 3v3 team game.
i pretty much knew the RTS genre was in trouble with how well Company of Heroes sold. A great, great game with "ok at best" sales. Once EALA and Ensemble shut down..well...that was it for full budget RTS games other than Blizzard.

Day9 stated repeatedly they were focused on 3v3 only.
that's just too limited for me. i like the 1v1 to 4v4 range of possibilities that most RTS titles offer.
