Grim times. I'd advise people to actually watch the show themselves rather then drawing conclusions from reddit headlines. It was hardly a "doom and gloom" pity party with bad new everywhere, having watched it I feel significantly less depressed then I did after just reading reddit. (Not that that isn't always the case, but especially here.)
The Holiday stuff I don't think anyone was ever really expecting to come through, I mean it's not been seen on ptr at all, and never mentioned outside of a few seconds at some unnoficial presentation none of which ever came through.
Frost leaving kind of sucks, but I'm not sure what he actually did there. Guess it's just the shedding which happens with what the game is going through. If the *actual* vital people start leaving, like cougardc, then i'd be worried, but it's just a "developer" who happened to be good on camera who probably got a really really good job offer from some big company when they saw how much he did for wildstar, and he'd be an idiot to not accept a massive raise if it was offered~

wat and whaaaat
Is Carbine having trouble with the roster boss too? :D
“There’s a lot of feedback about client optimization. We do have a lot of stuff. We’re fixing it, we’re making it better. There’s a good 10-20% performance improvement.”
Lol
I'm dipping below 40fps with a 4770k@4.5ghz on Phagemaw occasionally and below 30 in some extreme cases. There are a few things i could do to improve that - mainly turning off the combat log and losing damage and threat meters, but i consider both of those pretty essential. Not neccesary, but quite high up there to perform well and get feedback from performance - the other thing would be disabling spell effects, but this game does not allow you to reduce the size/complexity of spell effects, just remove them altogether. I tried this for an hour and i was constantly confused about positioning and who was shooting what and i couldn't really play properly. My GPU is around 30% load and when i get my 970, that'll be more like 17% load, so there's literally NOTHING that i can do on hardware side to improve performance at all. I could get another 4.4% out of CPU if i got a nicely binned chip or ran voltage levels that would degrade CPU much more quickly, but that's hardly worth mentioning.
They need a 100% improvement, not a 10-20% improvement for the game to be truly viable on anything but the highest end systems. I'm kinda dreading walking into 40 man - at least there i know that i'll have no choice but to disable a large portion of spell effect, damage meter, maybe even completely remove combat log and threat meter or work out some solution for tracking tank threat without parsing hundreds of lines of text per second.
For me on 144hz screen, 100fps is about where i feel "woah, fps drop", 40-50 is kinda painful to play on and noticably impairs performance and comfort, 20-25 for a sustained period of time is WTF
Just got this update from our technical director and thought I would share it with you all!
"The Defile Drop has a number of performance improvements, including:
· Reduction in the size of vertex and index buffers
· Reduction in the size of our terrain data
o This change not only reduces our install size by ~500 megs, it will help performance on memory starved machines.
· Optimizations to ocean rendering
· Optimization to some critical sections in the game
· Better parallelization of update and draw calls
o Up to a 15% improvement on some machines
· Reduction in the amount of dynamic resources used per frame to work better with AMD GPU drivers.
Beyond the defile drop, we’re working on additional optimizations to Map/Unmapping buffers (which is much slower on AMD graphics cards), portrait rendering, and many more medium-to-long-term fixes."
THIS is the data i like to see. Those patches are how something goes from a mess to being pretty reasonable instead of being stuck in "optimization hell" like with sc2... "Yea we'll fix it.. umm.. later..." where nothing happens for 5 years.
I think i'm past hoping for the game to turn out well and scale well into next year with patches, this kinda applies a lot IMO:

I will see what i can do in the next few weeks, maybe even set foot into datascape but likely not. I'm probably going to go and raid in WOD, but my time with Wildstar will be fun until the end and hopefully there is still a game to have fun with in the future when they've had another year to improve performance, bugs, core systems and general content availability ^.^

Can't believe they cancelled Diretide (yea yea I know it's called Shade's Eve). Why can't they hire a few temps to help them test Halloween content, instead of pulling Caydiem's team (she said she's the Holiday content lead) to work on Drop 3? Holiday events are usually about cosmetics and fluff fun, which doesn't even require balancing.

I'm actually not sure of leaving in a few weeks mainly because i had almost entirely good interactions with these people and last week was pretty obviously an exception and not something to expect
we just took two groups for 3 hours - our group was the worse one, we oneshot x89, took 4-5 attempts on kuralak and then ~3 attempts on phagemaw. I'd probably look like an idiot if i was playing osu quite competitively while also playing WOD while also maintaining a Wildstar raid guild and playing a few other games on the side, lol
It's easy to be somewhat frustrated but flipping over to a new reset with a few new people and having raid healing significantly improve and DPS go up by 1.4x leaves a pretty strong impression too. I'm with fal, sem and the warrior class leader too who is pretty awesome and does ridiculous damage.

^x89. No MOO, etc. I was using smackdown, he has about a ~15-20% AP lead and a ton of ability and AMP points, but it's super motivating to see numbers like that. There's better discussion for who is doing what for stuff like armor shred AMP, smackdown etc
Also, this doesn't hurt:
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/SSDwHuq.png)
i was even blessed with RNG that lets me equip them before the rune changes without messing up my raid performance :D
Also, Grit isn't an entirely dead stat. Through grit on a few pieces and way higher item level shield, i'm surviving a LOT of fuck ups that would oneshot me before. As an example because i am a noob i got hit by an x89 shockwave when it was at ~25% HP, and because i survived that with 700hp (from full shields and hp) i did easily ~350k more damage in the fight, a ~1.33x dps increase from just a few bits of armor having bits of grit and my shield having like 9.3k shield capacity. A LOT of stuff from wildstar raids hurts and even when it's possible to dodge everything it's not always realistic, it helps a surprising amount to have more HP

Congratulations! From what I hear from Fal the other group also got 3/6 in one night so it seems the shuffle really worked well.

Yea, like i said we were still the bad group and got 3/6
We wiped more and took longer but 2x 3/6 in 3 hours with breaks is awesome
Unless this site is lying (and i don't think it is) those two rune slots are worth 41 assault power together; equivalent to 110 mainstat ATM, because the item level is so high. That's a massive "fuck you" to the crafted gear which has 125 mainstat, almost no secondary stats and 2-3 bad rune slots instead of 2-5 good ones with only the special to make up for it which isn't all that amazing and it's super awkward to get crafted legs with 2-3 good rune slots and a special that actually used a decent power core. It'll be different post patch, but the GA legs will only be stronger.
Fal called them bad and passed on them, not sure why or if she saw those numbers. She maybe just doesn't care because reasons etcetc

I imagine there's a set of legs with similar/higher Brut and a useful 4th stat instead of crit sev. There's probably a set of legs that has your 3 main stats instead of 2 + grit as well.
Obviously they're not bad but it's not hard to imagine that your class leader has better ones

Fal isn't the class leader though and she's using crafted gear :D
There's not really a loot system ATM so we're just rolling day to day
I know crit sev sucks but i don't mind gaining 750hp and 1% crit chance while also gaining assault power

Nyra why are you stalking us
btw i figured out Fal's plan, they're using essentially reverse DKP loot system with no decay so she can just not roll on items until she has the most points and then claim whatever without competition. If i knew that i might have said ololol ohmna weapon too but it wasn't explained to me until me and marhulak both have several items

From what I remember they use a council system. Fal isn't that manipulative.

We're not using a council system though, they're handing out loot and points to people based on how much stuff they got; etc if one person got 3 drops and another 2 drops it's automatically theirs with no other consideration. Someone (Jenro or Tyrall) said it went to council if they had equal loot
Kinda annoying because i had to clarity like 3 times to different people that i would have told them to salvage that terrible runeslot miniboss sword if it meant opting out of warrior set pieces or ohmna weapon etc, stuff that actually matters and isn't "If i'm still 4/6 in a month, i'l equip this and gain 1% DPS"
I don't think it's manipulative, i just think it's a stupid system :D
Flat out rolling for everything on the spot, loot counseling everything or the system we had, any of the three would be better but A or B would be easiest
Looks like we kill 5/6 on sunday and then practice ohmna sunday+monday

For anyone checking out Wildstar as a prospective game, and you're eager / desperate enough to have sifted through the gloom and doom (I was at that point once) in your search for a good PvE raiding MMO. If you share similar priorities that I have for MMOs, I would suggest giving Wildstar a shot.
I raided in Wow Vanilla > Cata (some gaps inbetween) at a reasonably competitive level. Raiding was basically everything, the seasonal events and other stuff never really interested me. If it was not progression guild / character wise, I had no motivation.
Wildstar raiding is on par with some of my best raid experiences in WoW, I am fortunate enough to be in a guild that has survived the attrition, and is progressing steadily towards our first 40man kill. The frustrations, the wipe nights, the effort to improve your character to aim for top parses, the gratification when you get the kill at the end of the day, it's all there.
The combat style of the game coupled with the reasonably well tuned raids make for a different experience that in my opinion is both enjoyable and accessible to the masses, but also challenging enough that if you're a top player, you will shine.
That said, a lot of the points in many of the grim outlook threads have some very valid underlying concerns that I won't bother to restate here. Ultimately, there is plenty enough of a reason for me to continue playing this game, for my interests, it's the best game on the market at the moment.

As a veteran raider of wildstar and as someone who put hundreds of hours into It I completly disagree with the above post.
My guild decided to close the wildstar branch of addiction beacuse no one in it had any faith left in carbine going forward and was super disipointed and pissed off with what was ahead of us.
RIP wildstar we hardly knew ye.

I...suggest waiting until drop 3 (supposedly November, last I heard) before committing to the game.
|
The raiding is definitely great. Many other parts of the game are definitely lacking.
So I agree with nehcnhoj's post. If raiding is what you're after, Wildstar is a good pick. If you want "the complete package', it isn't.
e: Megaservers estimated mid-October, drop 3 estimated end of October/early November.

I don't think waiting is a good idea, while the november drop will improve things and rework stats etc to something that makes more sense (with waiting so long, i would have hoped that they revisited things like strikethrough and crit severity, though, they're still so bad.. grit content on gear, as well as mainstat/ap doing the same thing could also be looked at) - there will certainly be a very significant drop of players with the WoW expansion happening then. I can't see anything other than population drops month after month after month so IMO if you wanna see the game, go enjoy it while it's there. It's quite hard to take super seriously which is why i have not farmed out the ability and AMP points etc.
We're about to get Megaservers (~1-2 weeks) but even when everyone on EU-PVP is essentially merged into Hazak.. the population could still be lower than even a few months ago.
|
With Eugenic jumping ship to the PvE server, I'm pretty confident EU-PvE will be the bigger of the 2 servers. You might want to raise this with IN HQ unless you guys are very fond of your world PvP.

Are you sure? I get the impression that we're 70/30 towards pvp/pve. Ascendancy is quite low population in comparison to Hazak.
They only went there because they wanted to pick people from both PVE and PVP servers, and the only way people from both can transfer to join you is if you are on a PVE server
|
There's no way to be sure, but I would think the population of Ascendancy + Eko alone already exceeds Hazak. De-Ikthia is pretty healthy as well. Isn't Hazak the only PvP server that isn't dead? 70/30 is an interesting figure, that's just a guess right?
Some numbers from Carbine would be really helpful for decisions like these tbh
You do have the most 6/6 guilds of any EU server, even after Eugenic left.

After Mega-servers, it will no longer be possible to go PvP -> PvE, so they must think PvE will be bigger, or they just made a fairly big mistake ^^

Source on that info? I've never heard it mentioned (by anyone in eugenic or otherwise) they explicitly said that they went PVE so that people from both realms could transfer into them
yea, 70/30 is a guess i just got that impression from claims on reddit, the pvp server vs the pve server. Actually, that's pretty wild, maybe 60/40 would be a more appropriate guess :D
