You're asking for a review from someone =P Reviewing an MMO is quite hard and subjective to a point aswell. It's why a lot of reputable reviewers don't actually go into them.

Well, i'd rather read from some random joe who wasn't out to voice his "review" then one who specifically wrote 20,000 words for MMOBomb or an actual journalist, thats what i meant =p
~1.2-1.5 ms/frame @60fps. That's saying that about 8-9% of the CPU time on the main thread(?) per frame is down to this addon alone. For that reason i limit when it's displayed a lot, etc no friendly players unless they've taken damage.
The CPU usage of the #1 addon there is over 2000 times higher than the bottom of that screenshot (1.334 vs 0.006) and every other addon is below that, so addons as a whole are very often extremely light on performance
I got a worst case scenario now, like 1.8ms/frame on that addon. Turning nameplates off takes my FPS from 55 to 72 (a 30% increase) but most of that isn't from just players, it's probably from having NPC nameplates etc on and drawing to 120 meters instead of the default 70. That covers like three and a half times as much area, almost doubling radius
blight haven group quests So good. Northern wastes looks good but it feels like crimsion isle. Blighthaven is just amazing but after dungeon and adventure running for a month it just feels like I way out leveled the area. got some really nice gear and some really cool costumes.
The next ultra drop will be about pvp. a new battleground and a rework of all the pvp stats and items. Warrios have been nerfed slightly in this patch and stalker tanks have been fixed.
They seem to have added both the FPS cap and the FOV option to the game UI. That's pretty good, two more things that had to be done through an obscure console command that was pretty important (these two, and also the decoupled mouse drag character turn sensitivity with mouse DPI)

greatest thing about WildStar is the combat mechanics. i've never played an MMO before because i hate the combat.
get the free 1 week trial guest pass. some people love the combat Carbine has come up with ... some hate it... you'll know very quickly if you like it or not.
for me, i have not seen combat this engrossing since WWF No Mercy in 2001. WildStar is fucking aweome.

Good:
-Combat is FUN!!! -that point is really important -important enough for 3 bullet points -some of the quests are pretty entertaining/original (I really enjoyed quite a few of them storywise/gameplay wise) -the aiming and dodging makes pvp really intense -lategame dungeons/raids are crazy hard and a lot of fun -tons to do (housing/tradeskills/etc) outside of just raiding/pvp -personally i just find the humour and art style amazing -if they keep up the current standard of monthly patches, that combined with the difficulty of endgame content means this game will be amazing for a long time to come. -hoverboards are crazy fun
Bad:
-still a lot of bugs here and there, they're being fixed, but it's going slowly. Most are avoidable/easily fixable (just relog/reloadui or do some things in a certain way to avoid them bugging, but still annoying.) -pc intensive, older systems struggel, amd struggles, and some modern systems have wierd optimisation problems too. just look at this thread :p -some people find questing super boring, and if you just mindlessly skip through all the dialogue (or heaven forbid use an addon to afk through it all) then leveling is going to be a really really boring 60-70 hours of gameplay. Personally I found questing fun, but again each to their own.) -hard to do a lot of post 50 stuff without a decent guild, vet dungeons and arenas both need friends/guildies to do properly, not worth bothering without. -some people dislike art style -guest pass is shit, super restrictive and you can't even trade, let alone reach a lot of the better content.
I'm finding it insanely fun, one of the best mmo's i've played in years, + Without even playing very much (haven't logged in in 10 days due to holidays) I still have several months of credd bought in advance in game now, and it seems like it'll be pretty easy to just play for free using that, given how low prices still are. It just makes a lot of the things which are tedious in other games (combat rotations, tanking/healing, even just travelling around) and makes them epic, (Much more interactive and response, tanking/healing much harder and more interactive, HOVERBOARDS!!). But you can't ignore the number of bugs (if those things tend to annoy you) or the optmisation issues (if you have one of the "at risk" rigs, old/amd/radeon/whatever.)
Hmm, seems like its definitely worth getting atm. Thanks for taking the effort :-)
Think i'll wait a couple of months though, since im in no hurry with my current single-player backlog and recent obsession with GW2/vanilla wow. I'm interested to see if they can fix the bugs people are complaining about and iron out the end-game. Apparently arena/pvp needs to be fixed? and they'll have to release some form of pve content during that time.
We'll see how it goes considering thats always the test for MMO releases really. The combat definitely looks fun and fast-paced though.
I play the game with my GF and we both really enjoy it, we've only gotten about halfway levelwise though so have a lot left to explore and experience.
Personally I feel like others before me has mentioned that the combat is very fun and extrememly rewarding if you take the time to think your strats through properly. At least up to level 25 the PvP which is very fun because of the combat mechanics are hindered by lack of content, seriously only 2 different kinds of pvp modes for us to choose from at the moment.
Quests are fun and the added flavor of getting to choose a second "class" so speak really helps making the game feel varied and not too grindy. Explorer has been my choice and I've found it very fun and engaging, finding hidden caves and stuff like that to explore that others might not be able to find.
Today I saw a Warrior advertising in zone chat, looking for a 1500 geared Esper to join him and a friend for Warrior/Spellslinger/Esper, which is one of the FOTM's in 3's. I immediately jumped at the chance.
And wow, 3's is so much more fun than 2's. It's much more fast paced and exciting, and the lack of a healing debuff (which is present in 2's for balance reasons) means that I can properly fulfill my role as a healer. These guys are also really vocal on voice chat, and I could tell had some experience in WoW arena and so on by how they were calling things out. This was already very different to my previous 2's games with the Engineer who did not speak at all on TS. Very enjoyable first day.
I've uploaded some of our games:
We had two games against an identical team, both which were very close:
We also ran into a double healer comp (flashbacks of looooong games in WoW, oh god) and lost to them in a drawn out game where the Warrior would permanently train me and eventually gib me while my teammates spent all their time trying to peel, resulting in us rarely denting them. We had a second game against them where I stopped trying to kite the Warrior and instead pulled him towards his healers, hypothetically allowing my teammates to cleave all of them and deal more damage. That still did not work.
So I changed my LAS to focus on kiting the Warrior away from everything and try to survive while my teammates could 2v2 the healers easily while the Warrior focused on me. This worked well and we won the next two games against them before we stopped queuing for the night. Unfortunately my recordings of the games we lost as well as the first game we won were corrupted, so this is the last game:
I took some quick numbers, not perfectly scientific but decently so, before learning the level 40 riding skill:
Base walking speed: ~23 seconds
Mount base speed: ~13-14 seconds
Mount lvl40 speed: ~12 seconds
Mount + Sprinting: ~10 seconds
Mount lvl40 + Sprinting: ~9 seconds
Pretty rough numbers for just running along a certain length of path (without the run faster on yellow paths buff)
I'd guess that this means:
Base speed = 100% Level 15 mount = 175% Level 40 mount speed = 175*1.15 = ~200% of base.
So you get an extra 1/3'rd or so bonus mount speed (+100% of base instead of +75% of base)
For anyone who doesn't get that math - It says +15% speed on the book, but 15% of 175% is the same thing as 26.25% of base speed. 175 + 26.25 = 201.25% base speed
Conclusion: I had like 4p in my bags from leveling anyway even after spending a lot of stuff on stupid things (like 1-2p between dyes and gear that i had no real need for and replaced anyway, other useless crap) and 50g of that for that speed increase was worth. I would have paid a lot more, and i'm glad there's another one at level 50.
Oh, forgot to mention: The mount sprint speed bonus is a multiplier on base speed, so it helps the slower mount more than the faster one. My sprint test was not sprinting all of the time, it was just sprinting from 100% to 0% then whenever possible for like the last half of the way. It was a bad test, but i didn't think for long enough before running through it and i couldn't go back and fix it, so take the sprint numbers however you want
with above math i think you can put it down to:
Base = 100%
Lvl 15 mount = 175% Lvl 15 mount while sprinting = 225% (1.286x gain)
Lvl 40 mount = 200% lvl 40 mount while sprinting = 250% (1.25x gain)
I took my boots off for the base speed test as they had +13% movespeed on them

go on Twitch.tv and find a guy broadcasting WildStar with less than 15 viewers. begin begging. you'll get a guest code in a few minutes.

I don't know how people can call combat in this game fun.
I've promised a friend to play it with her and she asked me to level ahead so we don't always have to play together. I really, really tried to get into it but the combat is so... tedious. I managed to get to level 22 and now I simply can't bring myself to play the game anymore. Enemies have large amounts of health and I'm just standing there spamming my highest DPS skills on my gunslinger until they finally die. I don't even bother with dodging unless it's some elite monster with 3 times my HP. I'm fully focussed on damage and stuff still takes forever to die. It feels like boring WoW button mashing all over again.
The questing is ok-ish but really not immersive or 'fun'. Lots of tedious "kill X", "use Y quest ability X times", "gather X things from mobs", ... quests intermixed with the occasional interesting quest.
The world is everything *but* immersive. Mobs don't react until you are in stabbing range and even then you have time to run past them before they really become aggressive, so it feels like you run around in a world full of cardboard cutouts or robots - well, ok, some opponents *are* robots. It's definitely not a living world.
The story might be ok but progression through the main story line is so slow that I forgot why I'm actually doing whatever I am doing and when I return to a previous area, nothing changed.
To me Wildstar feels like just another generic MMO with the same boring, button mashing, static combat and the same boring, generic quests. If I hadn't promised to play it, I'd already have stopped my subscription 10 levels ago because it's pure torture and a waste of money. Maybe it gets better in another 50 levels but I do not have the endurance to even get close to that through the tar that are the levels I've already gotten through.
Have you done a dungeon? Just queue for Stormtalon or Kel Vorrath as a DPS. The queue might take a while but I would give that a chance before completely giving up on the game.
