Yeah this game is going to have protests but damn it's going to be hilarious.
Surprising no one, Cyberpunk 2077 was rated 'M' for Mature by the ESRB. What is surprising, though, is what elements contributed to that rating: customizable genitals and a quest that sure sounds like the main character crucifying some poor soul.
"Some locations depict mutilated corpses with open chest cavities and/or exposed organs/entrails," reads the ESRB's ratings summary. "During one quest, players assist a character by hammering nails through his hands and feet; screaming sounds and blood effects accompany the scene."
That last sentence has me very confused. The use of the word "assist" implies the character wants you to crucify them—but to what end I can only imagine, because the summary moves right on from that to reveal a previously unknown feature of Cyberpunk 2077's character customization.
"Players can select a gender and customize their character; customization can include depictions of breasts, buttocks, and genitalia, as well as various sizes and combinations of genitals," the summary says.
The language here is just vague enough that it's hard to picture exactly what this customization screen will look like. We do know that CD Projekt Red ditched binary gender options last year, changing the character creator to emphasize body type instead, letting players mix and match different parts to create their character however they want. The ESRB description suggests that the developer has followed through on that approach, but to what exact degree we don't know.
The ESRB summary also says that characters will be able to select the size of their genitals. What that actually entails is also anyone's guess, but it could resemble Conan Exiles, which has a dong slider to adjust the length of your penis.
CDPR has also announced that on June 11 it will be sharing more details about the game, so it's possible we might get more answers then. We've also reached out to the developer for more information about character creation, and will update this story if we hear back.

I can't help but laugh at "customizable genitals".

Cyberdongs.
Think about it. We are talking about a world where people have all sorts of cyberware enhancing their abilities. Considering the amount of penis enhancement spam you get nowadays, imagine what people would be up to if you could actually get a penis with custom vibrations and stuff built-in. Or a gun. Penis guns might be all the rage.

The amount of traps with magnum dongs will be unprecedented.

Short interjection, i am pretty sure that "trap" is a slur and should not be used in that way.

I guess you learn something everyday
I like that it is mature rated. Not a lot of game developer have the guts to go this way because this also means missing revenue from 12-18 yr olds. Not sure if I need a dong/ boob slider though

Some interesting info about the game from a German podcast came about. Will be spoiling because some might want to keep it a surprise. It's nothing about the story though, just gameplay and design. (A CDPR dev said a certain segment is mistranslated and was spread around as misinformation. Now I'm starting to doubt whether this translation was accurate or if the guy wasn't fabricating, so it could all be false. Some of it is repeated information from past interviews too.)
+ Show Spoiler +The Podcasts are from the german game magazine „GameStar“ which has some of its podcast for premium users only so I can not link those. -Developers said that the improvements in the level Design are as big as they were from Witcher 2 to the Witcher 3. -there will be no such thing as the barrels from the Witcher 3 in Cyberpunk with an overwhelming amount of map icons because some players want to complete every single map icon available. -Due to the coronavirus the devs had to work from home and CDPR sent over 700 Workstations out to the devs around the world with Cyberpunk installed. Therefor we know at least 701 people are working on the game. Edit: -You will have about 3 times that much ways to solve a mission than in the Witcher 3. They thought “What is the dumbest thing a player could do now and how is it possible that the mission continues. The only thing stopping it is the players death. They called an example where you talk to someone, get shot and instead of fighting back you run away and buy a hamburger but the mission has to continue. (Does this mean eating is confirmed? I’m not sure) -They tried to improve this in the Witcher 3 DLCs and want to improve it even more in Cyberpunk: Some players said the missions when using the Witcher sight were to similar and not that interesting. We won’t see that again. I assume we will have something similar with our Cyberwear but that will be used better for missions. -While there are some areas in the Witcher 3 where villagers don’t have a daily routine, they are planing to improve this with giving more than a thousand NPCs a handmade routine. -According to a dev working on quest design they have no „rules“ about how a quest has to be (eg. Do not let you move more than 1000meters, you talk to 2,5 people) the only rule they have: If it‘s good, we expanding it and implementing it. -When they fully finished a quest they do not put them aside and work on the next, no they continue playing it over and over again until the game releases because they might find something to fix or improve. That’s what they did with the Witcher 3 and what they are doing with Cyberpunk. -They were really proud of themselves that no one leaked the appearance of Keano Reeves in more than a year they knew they got him before the E3. -The melee fight System shown in the E3 trailer was not nearly where they wanted it so expect some big improvements there. -Inside of the Cyberspace you will be able to summon Phantasy-RPG-like creatures and warriors who can for example burn out another hacker. (There was misguided belief this would mean you could do fights like Pokemon with your summons, but that was confirmed false. https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/comments/gycl3c/a_list_of_all_things_i_found_important_from/
They're doing a livestream on Jun 25th where they will show more gameplay and ramp up the marketing.

Game delayed again to November 19.
I gotta admit, I'm getting more concerned about the state of the game if they had to delay twice. CDPR's management does not look to be organized or cannot make good judgements on the development of the game. I can distinctly remember TW3 also being delayed like this as well. There was also CDPR assuring the public that they wouldn't delay Cyberpunk any further and reduce the crunch compared to TW3 because they've had the experience and know-how from past development, which sounds more and more bogus now. Does not sound like the company's heads are in tandem with the rest of the studio.
I wish CDPR could keep silent on a release date until they are 100% certain. It's starting to get annoying and worrying about the studio. Build up this much expectation and it better be perfectly polished, have no major bugs and glitches, balanced exceptionally well and run smooth like satin. Shouldn't be a surprise that the studio is facing problems with bleeding talent and some rather negative reviews on places like Glassdoor that say CDPR's management is rather poor.

that sucks, but it doesn't matter much as long as the game will be great.
|
I swear to fucking God, the world will end before this gets released...
|
This gets me in trouble.
Before I would have bought it for PC ezpz Now I don't know anymore. All my friends a buying it for PS5 and this seems like a game with which will go in to the direction of GTA5 / RDR2 online. Will have to wait and see what they say about crossplay then. Playing a shooter on console is abysmal :/

Wonder when they run out of money and have to release. Very common reason for not pushing the date back for games.

Not too worried about this game whenever it drops. I'm getting it immediately, so there's that. But I am curious as to the cross play as well. I'm tempted to get it for PC but if it doesn't support cross play, then I'll just cop it for PS5 since I know a few friends on consoles.

I only want it for the single player so cross-play is of no concern to me.
