So, you Teuton players, give some advice (not just for me, but others) who are starting out.
I've re-started on S5, and might do it again if I think it's worth it in a coupel of days.
Anyways, obviously with Teuton you need clubs early, as you need to start raiding and be aggressive. But, is it best to skip leveling fields and just go straight for a rax, or is it better to get some L2 fields, then go for rax?
Kaz, Psyren, and TLFighta have already given me their opinions on it. They all agree that going straight for clubs is the way to go, as a club costs as much as a field, and within four hours you can already be raiding as upping your main, getting a rally and a rax leaves you enough resources to get 2 clubs. This seems like a better build for just after the server has started, as otherwise you can't raid anyone yet.
My argument that it's better to start with fields first is that it results in exponential growth. Raiding isn't consistent, as you don't always find people with no army and no crannies. What if you meet an army? Now you've lost clubs, which must be rebuilt, costing you more resources. What if they have crannies? Now your raid isn't as efficient. Contrast this to fields where you at least have a consistent income. So, my point is, getting fields for 5-6 days, then a rax on day 7 could be more beneficial in the long run, as for a while you could raid with a stronger army, being able to produce clubs constantly given your field's income, and so if you lose a club, you can remake it using your income from fields rather than the already low-econ raiders.
Basically, to me, this is like 4pool vs. 12 pool.
What do the rest of you think? I'm about to make my first raid on S5. If it doesn't work well, I'm going to delete my account, and restart going for a stronger economy.
I admit I've always been a fan of strong economies. I can't play Rise of Nations because I basically enjoy trying to macro and get as high of an economy as I can. It's also a slight problem I had when I still played Brood War.
