Gentlemen, Wouldnt it be a fine idea to start a Crusader Kings 2 (Or grand strategy in general) Choose your own adventure challenge, in the spirit of the Pokemon soul silver cyoa? Itd be a great way to get a good ol war council going, and to see what a democratic voting style playthrough would be like for a grand strat game.
I will start this challenge if we get enough people interested posting.

Sounds like fun, if you can make it as entertaining as the Pokemon one, definitely go ahead!
I think I'd use a poll system to decide all our major nations moves, and I'd need some help with picking the nation . Should be a really fun project though!
I'd love to see some of the new features of the Rome expansion, if you have it. If not, I had a hell of a lot of fun playing as a Norwegian king and starting off with a claim on England, makes for an entertaining start IMO.
On the other hand, I haven't had much experience with any of the other nations, so it would be fun to see something completely different too.
I just started another playthrough recently playing as Novgorod and trying to unite the Russian empire. Good fun.
Hmm, I think I'm just gonna call a vote in the next few posts to decide between level of ruling (king/count/etc.)
Can we pick the GoT mod to do this one?
I think I'm just gonna do a regular one first, if people like it I'll do some mods, or perhaps another EU3 Merry go round
What would be the goal of this game in the end? Just go crazy and get as much land as you can before the game ends or would it be more a style of uniting Great Brittain/Spain and call it there?
Poll: What rank are we starting out asDuke (17) 50% Count (13) 38% Emperor (2) 6% King (2) 6% 34 total votes Your vote: What rank are we starting out as (Vote): Emperor (Vote): King (Vote): Duke (Vote): Count
I was thinking about starting out poor and working our way up to being able to push around other countries.
Anywayl, vote for what we are starting out as, in terms of rank
Either a small Duchy or a County imo. There's a cool little Duchy in Wales (Deneubarth or something). It only has one county to begin with, but has a claim on 2 neighboring ones, and is threatened by a rival Duchy just north of it. And of course England (whoever wins it).
Large realms are far too annoying to keep track of. =(
voted for small king, dont like having stupid lieges and no title revocation :D
can i suggest modding the game for weaker fatamid start and full reconquista CB for the byz only available to reformed roman empire? Otherwise those two empires paint half of europe green/violet.
I'm gonna go to bed now, I will be monitoring the thread tomorrow, expect to pick a country tomorrow around 19:00 CET, first gameplay will ensue at that point as well, coupled with some polls.
i love choose your own on anything its always really fun to do/see these kinds of things
The crusader kings subreddit had some good starting suggestions here.
Well, I'm still on my first playthrough as the Duke of Axum, which is a tough spot because your neighbors have more tech more population and can declare infinite holy war on you for all your titles, I've made it almost to 1300 and am now Catholic and recently independent from Fatimid rule, I'm considering swearing fealty to the HRE just for security purposes, but we'll see.
As far as my suggestions go, I'd like to see something like Duke of Burgundy or something to do with Genoa.
Seems like we're gonna be following a Duke of some sort. I'll post a poll tonight to decide what duchy we're starting out as. Any suggestions on what might be fun to follow? I was personally thinking of either uniting Ireland (That might be really slow at the start though) or starting somewhere in burgundy or italy
Duke often is the best choice, not as long as a Count, and not as easy as Kingdom.
Anywhere in the British Isles is my preference. Isle of Man is my favorite faction to play, but that's only a County, so meh.
Although imo Ireland is too easy to straight up conquer if you start out with one of the Dukes, as you're never really threatened by anyone stronger than you.
Being a count and working your way up is basically what the EU3 succesion game did. I remember them starting as alsac and conquering most of central europe and a bit of turkey, right?
Well yeah, except playing a County in CK2 is a lot more fun / there's a lot more options and things to do than when playing a single-territory faction in EU3.
Also if you have Legacy of Rome, being inside a Kingdom is pretty fun due to the new faction politics, alliances, plots and so on that come with the DLC. I think Legacy of Rome actually made it more fun to play non-independents than independents, since you get all these Game-of-Thrones-ish scenarios going on internally. =P
When playing an easy independent (nobody higher has a claim on you and so on), it's too easy to fall into the fabricate-conquer-fabricate-conquer-create title-conquer routine that gets pretty boring after a while.
I'm really tempted to include the DLC, but I think I'm just gonna do a vanilla one first. It'll be a lot easier for me, since I don't have quite that much experience with sword of the islam & legacy of rome, I'll definetly be up for doing one with DLC after we finish this one though.
the content of the dlcs is included in the patches anyways, except for retinues.

![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/qJJM3.jpg) Soon to be conquered Europe, unaware of its own fate
Alright, time to decide which duke we're going to be directing to murder his wife and relatives.
Poll: Which duke will we be rolling asJarl Eric the heathen (8) 31% Dutchess Matilda of Toscana (4) 15% Duke Murchard of Munster (2) 8% Duke Nuno of Portucale (2) 8% Duke Bleddyn of Gwynedd (2) 8% Duke Conan of Brittany (2) 8% Duke Wladyslaw of Mazovia (2) 8% Duke Alberto Azzo of Lombardia (2) 8% Duke Robert the Old (1) 4% Duke Vratislav of Bohemia (1) 4% Duke Pierre of Savoie (0) 0% Duke Gotfried of Lower Lorraine (0) 0% 26 total votes Your vote: Which duke will we be rolling as (Vote): Duke Murchard of Munster (Vote): Duke Pierre of Savoie (Vote): Duke Nuno of Portucale (Vote): Duke Bleddyn of Gwynedd (Vote): Duke Conan of Brittany (Vote): Duke Robert the Old (Vote): Duke Gotfried of Lower Lorraine (Vote): Duke Vratislav of Bohemia (Vote): Duke Wladyslaw of Mazovia (Vote): Jarl Eric the heathen (Vote): Dutchess Matilda of Toscana (Vote): Duke Alberto Azzo of Lombardia
I tried to give a varied selection of dukes, if you've got any suggestions, I might make a second poll. This is everything I could fit into this one
Voting is still ongoing, but I think we're gonna see a conquerer in the north!
I thought the Jarl looked somewhat easy being a 6 county duke, but does his title mean he isn't Catholic? That would make it really interesting. Anyway just looking at the map I thought Lombardy would be a whirlwind place to start.
he is a pagan, but he is part of sweden, which is catholic.
btw, africa has fun places to start, too. But you can get wiped out quickly in the violent continent, so its probably better this public game is in europe.

Well, I wouldn't mind seeing the intrigue of being a heathen under the kingdom of Sweden. Also I don't think he is going to play with any of the expansion so Africa would only be Aksum/Abyssinia.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/HLjO6.jpg) Alright, lets get this party started
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/y2vU5.jpg) Just another day being a Heathen surrounded by my Christian brethern. I'd love to conquer something, but what....
Yes! Let's conquer Finland! Screw those Swedish and Norwegian snobs!
Damn, got here too late. I was going to suggest the Duchy of the Isles. You have 4 provinces but 3 are vassals of different race from you. You have a claim on the Isle of Man but Sctoland has a claim on you. Lots of fun gathering Ireland and Scotland and Norway into an Empire since you are racially Norwegian.
Once I get home we'll go about conquering Finland, time to expand the heathen empire!
how can you play as a norse >: ?
Need to get yourself some kids ASAP.
did you use mods to enable pagans for playing?
Does that not come with the Sword of Islam Expansion? Or am I thinking of something else?

nope that dlc only allowed muslims
Huh.... oh well I guess mods are being used then.
Conquer a hot swedish wife asap

? you can play as a pagan with no mods. No idea if a patch added it or you need the first expansion for it.
If this playtrough is unmodded on the latest patch, we will see some crazyness with fatamids/byzantines and mongol hordes.

No mods are being used, I modified the save file in notepad. Changed a few values and BAM, rolled a Jarl
oh ok it seems unmodded i can indeed not play as a pagan, my balance mod must have changed it, sry for misinformation

Isn't that technically using a mod? Only, a mod that you created yourself.
Either way, it really doesn't matter - it's an arbitrary limitation that the game imposes anyway (probably for the sake of managing the difficulty) and doing it this way will probably make for quite an entertaining LP.
I'm pretty sure they keep it locked so that they can unlock it in one of the next DLCs + add a bunch of Pagan-specific traits and events (like they did with the Muslims).
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/KKcnC.jpg) No one understands me. Oh well, who needs them anyway, right....
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/qaDeg.jpg) So much to kill, so little time
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/tStTc.jpg) My first trophy will be this crown, look at him, he doesn't even look like a proper king. I'm gonna need a bigger army though, time to expand the castle!
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/O1kJJ.jpg) Out with the old, in with the new. That other king lasted about two months, I hope this king spends more time in the war room and less time in the banquet hall. I'm not too sure about this Limited Crown Authority though...
So did your wife kick the bucket, too? Or what does that marriage icon mean?
pagans have special casus belli, right? can you list them? im not familiar with pagan mechanics. I think they can raid others for gold?
i only know muslims with 50 piety can declar war over a neigbouring county and muslims with 500 piety can straight out take over a region ^^
Could you also specify which files one needs to change and how in order to play a Pagan faction? I remember Googling for that a while ago, but I couldn't come up with anything.

You go to C:\users\*account name*\documents\paradox interactive\crusader kings 2\save games\*name of savegame*
Search for player=yes in the document and change that from the guy you saved as, to the guy you want to play. Then go back to the top and change your player ID and player_realm= to the values of the guy you want to play as and you're all set to play pagan/muslim characters in vanilla CK2.
