Too late now, but the best defense is to spend all resources to the point where your cranny covers everything, and never have any troops at home.
I'm at -78 crop/h now, with lots of clubbers queued in the barracks, so it's going to be -100 soon O_O

Any Teuton thinking of getting Spearfighters for defense?
Edit: did some reading, too early for spearfighters. They are supposed to be anti-cavalry defense. Maybe I'll just leave 30-40 clubbers at home overnight. Losing my stored crops would be a catastrophy...

getting excesive clubbers isnt good. with 20 i can raid everyone in range easily while i upgrade my fields

Yea, i have a 4 legs now instead of 21, and i have to cranny up, and i have no resources, and i have no way to upgrade my fields because of no raiding party and no resources. Roman isn't that bad, its cool you can build buildings and upgrade fields at same time, and once you get EI's, you're set.
