An IEMod patchwork fix for the Maerwald bug. This post spoils the very first Stronghold quest (where you go to find Maerwald the Watcher). You should read it.
+ Show Spoiler [Maerwald the Watcher] +When you go to find Maerwald the Watcher to talk to him, you find him too far gone and will be forced to kill him. After Maerwald dies, a dialogue trigger with Maerwald's soul is supposed to come up, where you can choose whether to free his soul, bind it to your stronghold, or absorb it for knowledge. Some times this trigger doesn't happen. If this breaks, it's a problem. Not having the conversation with the soul: - 1) Results in you not gaining your second Watcher ability
- 2) Misses out on Stronghold upgrades or extra loot:
- 2a) Bind soul to stronghold (+1 security)
- 2b) Free soul (+1 prestige)
- 2c) Absorb soul (Secret loot room in the Endless Paths)
- 3) Does not start the next part of the main quest
The biggest problem is that this may have happened to you, and you don't even know about it because the game seems to continue as normal after this encounter. Characters know Maerwald is dead, you still inherit the stronghold, and you still get the side quests for the NPCs that tell you to go to Defiance Bay. But you don't get the main quest continuation. If you aren't sure you interacted with Maerwald's spirit, check your quest log. If "The Old Watcher" is completed, but "Never Far From The Queen" was never added to your quest log, you have this problem. Through IEMod and a lot of patience, I've found this patchwork workaround that seems to fix all of these issues. That said: DISCLAIMER: I don't know what I'm doing. I don't know if this fixes everything. I don't know if this breaks anything further down the line. I don't know what will happen if a future patch ever resolves this problem retroactively. So far it works for me.Here's what I had to do: 1) Install IEMod - http://rien-ici.com/iemod/2) Load your game 3) Input the following console commands (you can copy-paste them) depending on the outcome you want: a) If you wanted to absorb his soul, type in the following commands:- SetGlobalValue b_watcher_chamber 1
- [I don't know how to open the chamber yet! It should be possible but I do not yet know how! Use this one at your own risk!]
b) If you wanted to free his soul, type in the following commands:- SetGlobalValue b_watcher_prestige 1
- AdjustPrestige 1
c) If you wanted to bind his soul to the keep, type in the following commands:- SetGlobalValue b_watcher_security 1
- AdjustSecurity 1
Once you've done one of the above, also type in the following two commands:- AddAbility player speaker_to_the_restless
- StartQuest data/quests/critical_path/act_2/cp_qst_ff_ruins.quest
Once done, you should be good to go. This will begin the next quest properly, give you the Watcher's ability, and give you the boon for releasing/binding his soul. I do NOT yet know how to open the chamber at the bottom of the Endless Maze as I have not gotten that far yet (nor will I for some time), so if you want the treasure pile, use it at your own risk. Most likely it should be possible to unlock the chamber or acquire knowledge of it somehow once you're on the bottom floor, but I cannot be sure of this yet. For now, I'm going to keep playing until the next thing breaks. Link to my post on the Obsidian forums about this: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/73273-maerwald-dialogue-bug-in-caed-nua/?p=1623655

(Probably due to defender with the talent that gives +10 all defenses bonus) I read that you can dismiss him and then go and pick him up and it could fix this. If not, wait for a patch. Or take his stuff, dismiss him, make a custom Fighter, give him Eder picture and name and Eder's stuff :D He will not talk and have quests but he will be just as useful in combat.

you can get it for +/- 25 euros from 3d party site, steam is over priced (as usual).

Guys, Can I ask something please..
1. Is there an equipment tier? or we just upgrade these normal items in to supper good item by ourself? I may have played too much Blizzard game so I am kind of looking for common-rare-unique-legendary but I have found none in my first 15-16 hours.
2. from question 1, should I hold on to my crafting material and wait for the good item or I can just use it?
|
You buy/find upgraded or upgrade by yourself, though you can sometimes buy or find items with properities you cannot enchant.
|
Thank you. I will start collect every herb I see then.
|
Picking up every herb isn't that importnat, you find plenty of them, generally gems limit your enchanting more.

Upgrading stronhold to give you plants helps a lot regarding plant shortage. There are two buildings that give you free stuff if you build them.

I find it rather amazing that people really think that a 50 hour adventure with tons of challenge and excellent writing that is a product of a combined effort of a hundred or so people for many months somehow should cost them as much as a big mac, otherwise it's "too expensive".
Nevertheless, just finished the game, worth every penny. It's optimal to buy after the patch though, there are still issues, I had to reload from an uncomfortably old save game at least once (the ogre druids, ugh, avoid them or use paralysis scrolls).

Saying the game is overpriced because it's not multiplayer is why devs keep making crappy multiplayer modes at the expense of the single player campaigns. It's a stupid argument to make.
|
40 euros for a huge single player RPG experience with a lot of replay value is a excellent deal as far I'm concerned, games like this are quite a rare treat these days after all.
You're allowed to bitch all you want about FPS games that have 5 hour campaign, copy pasted multiplayer and cost 60 euros though, that shit on the other hand aint cool.

I'm on like 60 hours on this game already! Most value for money I've had for years, dragon age 3 held my interests for 10 hours. Different tastes but still this is definitely deserving of a full price tag.

I checked out one bad ending, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Didn't have any of the companions so don't know what their bad story is.
+ Show Spoiler +Entire starting village killed by lord. Crime lords ruling the city, making people move out due to too high taxes. The tower in Heritage Hill activated again. Keep falling into disrepair.

Is it really 50-60 hours? I've only played 15 and I'm already in Dyrford which feels at least halfway through the game.

Depending on how much of the content you read and your speed at reading it is from 25h to 60h for a single game the first time. Second is much faster since the dialogue should go faster, unless that is your completion one instead of the first one.

Don't be like me and waste a few hours when i first started the game. I thought people with yellow name plates were really important and read everything there was at the start. -_-

I ignore golden NPCs, use fast mode if I've already explored an area, and read all dialogue but don't wait for voice acting to finish.

So, im thinking about buying Dragon's Age: Inq (it's on 50% sale now, main reason), Divinity Original Sin or this one. I played and loved Planescape Torment, Baldur's 1 and 2 and both Icewinds (didn't liked em as much as Baldur 2 or Torment tho), Dragons Age: Orgins i would rate as 8/10 when it was released, Dragon's Age 2 i would consider disgusting mistake. Other RPG's i like were mostly Morrowind, Skyrim, Fallout 1,2 and New Vegas. Witcher 2 was also great, from recent games i tried Wasteland but found it really unpolished and combat felt just flat wrong for me.
So considering what i just wrote, any advice about which one i should aim at?
From what i understand Divinity have awesome combat system and good, but not great story, Dragon's Age have some issues with boring generic quests that aren't part of main story line and just work as a filter and some questionable interface on PC (or was that patched already?) and Pilars is somewhere between Baldurs and Icewind when it comes to frequency of fights, while story is medicore and is currently suffering from quite big number of bugs. So, yeah, help!

Based on what you wrote PoE may be more your style (especially once they fix bugs). I have similar tastes than you, loved the old CRPGs, liked DA:O hated to my core DA2. DA:I rant to follow.
I played somewhat half of DA:I and I have no idea where the GOTY awards come from... I guess from the same persons that gave DA2 80+ scores. It's not a bad game, it's relatively decent. It's somewhere between DA:O and DA2 for me. My biggest issue with it are the PC controls/menus and the whole mmo aspect of it: -Bye Bye the tactical mode of DA:O. The tactical aspect of DA:I is unplayable for me, more frustration fighting a broken camera and poor controls than actual fun. As a result I gave up. Plugged a controller and lowered the difficulty so that I could avoid using the tactical mode... This transformed DA:I into a single player mmorpg, controlling one character followed by bots. It's now shallow but at least fun to play. The menus are clearly made for a controller so that helps. -The game uses a gateway system for the main story where you have to reach a specific amount of power to get to the next story part. The way you get power is through doing optional quests in some big environment. The problem is these zones and quests are very MMO like... boring. A lot of fetch and kill quests in a huge zone. Also the 3D view coupled with very hilly environment frustrate me A TON as I spend more time walking trying to figure out how to reach a specific spot than anything. More than once I abandoned trying to figure it out and went for another stupid quest just so I could get my next 20 minutes of story cut-scenes dose after reaching the power requirement.
Divinity OS is a very good game. I have nothing bad to say about it besides that I found PoE story a bit more driven and interesting. D:OS had a bit too many "what am I doing" moments for me. The biggest difference in gameplay is that D:OS is turn based and I prefer real time.
PoE has a few bugs yes but it will get patched quickly for the most annoying ones. The story isn't Planescape Torment for sure. But it's still better than DA:I and D:OS so when comparing these 3 it's not a bad point
